Dior just paid hommage to rich Indian craftmanship tradition with a star-studded show in Mumbai. The French label unveiled its Pre-Fall 2023 collection in front of a star-studded audience that included local and international royal guests, and our valued Art Contributor Shalini Passi, alongside Bollywood stars Rekha, Sonam Kapoor, and Anushka Sharma, as well as models Cara Delevingne and Maisie Williams, against the historic Gateway of India monument. Now Dior presents modern Western style paired with French chic at the Salone del Mobile 2023 in Milan, Dior Maison and Philippe Starck continue their collaboration and unveil the Monsieur Dior armchair.

For the Salone del Mobile 2023 in Milan, Dior Maison and Philippe Starck continue their collaboration and unveil the Monsieur Dior armchair, a tribute to the emblematic figure of the couturier. “After Miss Dior, unveiled in 2022 – the chair inspired by the iconic Medallion – it was natural to expand the family with Monsieur Dior, this new armchair,” comments Philippe Starck. Symbols of supreme savoir-faire combined with the most advanced technologies, these exceptional pieces are revealed in different materials and colors (polished or lacquered aluminum, ecru bouclé fabric and pink, black or fluorescent orange toile de Jouy), and are surrounded by the most comprehensive collection of furniture ever created for the House. An exclusive dialogue between Dior and the internationally renowned French creator, to be discovered from April 18 to 23, 2023 in the heart of Palazzo Citterio in Milan.

With Christian Dior, there is this perfect balance, both firm and subtle, between masculinity and femininity, which seems to be the secret of the longevity and importance of his work. That is how I see Monsieur Dior, and that is how I wanted to conceive this collection, which is ultra-technological and entirely graceful. We have once again transcended the boundaries of excellence at the convergence of craftsmanship –that virtuoso poetry of the hand – and the most advanced new techniques” Philippe Starck For the Salone del Mobile 2023 in Milan,

Dior Maison and Philippe Starck pursue their collaboration with a complete collection of timeless, elegant furniture, including the Monsieur Dior armchair. The internationally renowned designer, known for his visionary, poetic objects and places, continues to reinvent the iconic Medallion chair. A major source of inspiration, a homage to the emblematic figure of Monsieur Dior. This new chapter embodies the essence of couture, “its gracefulness, and the way it falls,” in the words of Philippe Starck, recalling those of Christian Dior*. A striking celebration of heritage, reflecting the ambition of the famous French creator to reveal “the life that is in everything”. “After Miss Dior**, it was natural to expand the family. The duo of creations, the Miss Dior Sweet chair and the Monsieur Dior armchair, are perfectly balanced through these essential, existential notions of gravity and lightness, of yin and yang. Miss Dior and Monsieur Dior, Catherine and Christian Dior, the sister and the brother, the chair and the armchair, is the story of a sublime complementary duality,” comments Starck.

Available in a range of materials and colors (polished or lacquered aluminum, ecru bouclé fabric and pink, black or fluorescent orange toile de Jouy), these exceptional pieces, made in Italy, reflect the virtuosity of the hand and the most demanding innovation. They are accompanied by“little brothers and sisters, such as various tables of different sizes, and stools, all of which are extremely elegant”.

Expressions of excellent savoir-faire and perfect harmony, the curves of these models have been drawn to achieve a timeless quintessence. Driven by a “passion for the minimum”, Philippe Starck has refined thestructure of the seat to the extreme, seeking the absolute finesse of its silhouette, further emphasized bythe simplicity of aluminum, the nobility and durability of which he values.“Aluminum is the point zero from which everything is built, the idea of intelligence and purity of technology. The object as it is in its origin, its essence, without any dross.”* ̋The architecture of a dress isn’t an empty term. A dress is constructed and it is constructed according to the direction of the fabrics, this is the secret of sewing and it is a secret that depends on the first architectural law: that of obedience to gravity. The way a fabric falls – and the line, the balance of a dress result from this fall – is a function of the direction of the fabric. ̋(Christian Dior, Conference at the Sorbonne, 1955)** Chair conceived during the first collaboration between Philippe Starck and the House of Dior in 2022.

The timeless and versatile blue jeans icon is being reinvented by Maria Grazia Chiuri in a series of denim pants, promising a look at once elegant, relaxed and infinitely modern.

Named Dior 8, in homage to the founding-couturier's lucky-charm number, and initially composed of eight irresistible variations, a ninth reference now completes the collection, sublimating all body types. Made from raw denim, these exceptional creations come in bootcut, flared, wide-leg, boyfriend or cargo styles - as well as a new straight shape thought up for the Dior spring-summer 2023 line.

Each pair features a label on the back with the "Christian Dior" signature, enhanced by two horizontal stripes and the number of the model - from D01 to D09 – a tribute to the art of detail dear to the House.

A profusion of ultra-desirable pieces to (re)discover, season after season.
