MM6 MAISON MARGIELA unveils Colorama Japanese Bag

MM6 Maison Margiela brings back one of the most iconic accessories from past decades’ wardrobe with this colorama capsule collection. It’s been more than 10 years since the Japanese Bag made its catwalk debut for MM6 Maison Margiela’s FW09 collection.

Designed after a trip to Japan, this bag is inspired by the centuries-old art of origami. Its triangular silhouette and buttons on the corners allow it to fold back on itself to change shape, like a sheet of paper that becomes a swan. Soft materials, minimalist look and unconventional style turned it into a timeless cult in continuous evolution.

The mini version was revealed on the SS22 collection reusing all the codes of the historical version and creating a complete offer around this product.

Like an ode to freedom and long summer nights, the Japanese mini tote comes in a colour palette reminiscent of sunsets, sunrises, summer afternoons.

The full grainy leather appears to be natural-looking and is used this season for this capsule, with a stronger structure and consider as more durable with a soft, silky feel

This capsule will propose 8 colors to be delivered in stores from January 16th at MM6 Maison Margiela e-commerce sites and boutiques, as well as in selected multibrand stores. This collection will be available in Japan mid-February with retail pop-up.

It has been 25 years since MM6 line was launched by MAISON MARGIELA in 1997, and is today a part of the OTB group. MM6 design and collections are a subtle nod to the Maison’s archive while standing entirely on their own.

Sartorial conventions are routinely bent and broken. Conceptual essentials are created using unique fabric treatments, resulting in a distinctive wardrobe that spans All-Gender ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories and leather goods. A horizontal line of white stitches attaching the MM6 label to the back of the garment is distinctively visible from the exterior.
