Paris fashion week: AELIS couture F/W 2023-2024

Sofia Crociani, creator of AELIS, and Christine Neumeister, director of the Paris Opera's costume department, collaborated to give birth to a piece of art-to wear couture that was presented during the couture show in July.

Inspired by the elegance and grace of the ballet, AELIS has established a unique partnership with the Paris Opera to create a dress-sculpture from vintage tutus, made in the prestigious atelier of the Opera.

"We are honored to start this collaboration with the Paris Opera which was born from the friendship with Christine Neumester. It's an extraordinary opportunity to showcase our commitment to eco-sustainable fashion while celebrating the art and history of dance.

- Sofia Crociani, creator of AELIS Couture

In the early spring, Sofia comes across a little white blossom in the form of a feathery ball while exploring the uneven stones of the Louvre's cour carré in Paris. The splendor of the nearby structures is challenged by her elegance and vulnerability.

These extraordinary seeds, capable of dancing and being carried by the wind for hundreds and miles, are the start of the voyage of the new season of AELIS. Suddenly, the breath of the wind disintegrates it into a million of feather-light seeds that begin to fly between heaven and earth.

The traditional tutu form that resembles a dandelion blossom inspires the collection. Sofia is able to reclaim a few historic tutus that the head of the costume department, Cristine Neumeister, has made accessible to her through the relationship with the Opera de Paris.

Thus, an upcycling work was made in which the "tutus plateau" was combined into a single sculptural and fleeting object, preserving the significance and force of the experience that inhabited those shapes.

The focal focus of the collection's study as well as its evocative power is thus the emotional power of a dress that contains the history of the bodies and the ingredients that make up it.
