  • Emirates makes New Zealand as the first country on its network to exclusively carry its best product

Christchurch welcomes back Emirates’ A380. New Zealand becomes first country to exclusively carry Emirates’ four cabin A380. Restored daily connection from Christchurch to Dubai via Sydney welcomed by water cannon salute Emirates’ flagship A380 made a landmark touchdown at Christchurch Airport today, marking the resumption of its daily service from Dubai to Christchurch via Sydney after more than three years. The special service was greeted by a crowd of spectators at the Christchurch Airport boundary, who watched as the iconic aircraft taxied through a ceremonial water canon salute, before parking in view of trade, media, and VIP guests at the international terminal. Outbound EK412 left Dubai at 10:15 local time, stopping briefly in Sydney before arriving in Christchurch at 13:55 hours the next day, New Zealand time. On board the first flight back to Christchurch, Barry Brown, Divisional Vice President Australasia, Emirates, said: "Seeing the water cannon salute after we touched down in the first Emirates A380 flight in more than three years is a reminder of how special the aircraft is to Christchurch, since its first arrival in 2016. The significance of the occasion was also clear on the faces of the other passengers on board, who understood what this service means for Christchurch and connecting it to the world." "Not only has Christchurch again become the smallest city on Emirates’ A380 network, but New Zealand is now the first country on our network to exclusively carry our four cabin A380 and our best product yet. The phenomenal customer response from the moment tickets went on sale, both in and out of Christchurch, speak to a city in high demand." Phil Mauger Christchurch Mayor said: "The return of the Emirates A380 service is a great boost for Christchurch and the wider South Island. It shows we’re open for business and welcoming travellers after several years of Covid restrictions. I wish the passengers and crew a warm welcome, and I hope the resumed service is a real success for Emirates." Justin Watson Chief Executive of Christchurch Airport said: "The return of the Emirates A380 aircraft is a significant moment for Christchurch and the South Island. Resuming the daily service offers South Islanders access from Christchurch Airport to dozens of the world’s most famous cities in the famous Emirates style. After the A380’s inaugural arrival in October 2016, people came to the airport every day to admire and photograph the aircraft. The global pandemic paused the service, but today, we welcome the aircraft back, knowing many excited Cantabrians are here to remind the crew and passengers how warm the South Island welcome is." The resumption of the Dubai to Christchurch route headlines a planned ramping up of seating capacity across Emirates’ global network, after boosting operations 31% (total ASKMs) since the beginning of its financial year. This operational boost included the re-introduction of Emirates’ nonstop A380 route from Auckland to Dubai in December of last year. Emirates’ A380 return to Christchurch is also welcome news for South Island producers, with SkyCargo again supporting the export of 15 to 18 tonnes of daily goods across the Tasman. The airfreight will provided much needed airfreight from a broad range of exporters, including Central Otago cherries, prime New Zealand lamb, and premium seafood, as they continue on to destinations around the world. Both North and South Island customers will now have direct access to daily Emirates A380 services, providing greater levels of flexibility and choice when making travel plans and providing seamless connectivity and reduced transit time when travelling to other destinations across the airline’s global network, including destinations in Europe and the Middle East. Travellers looking to venture beyond the airline’s gateways will also have more connection opportunities to 55 cities across Australia and New Zealand through Emirates’ long-standing partnership with Qantas. Restart of Christchurch via Sydney The A380 flight operates as EK 412 and EK 413. Emirates flight EK 412 departs Dubai at 1015hrs, arriving in Sydney at 0700hrs. The flight will then continue, taking off from Sydney at 0845hrs, arriving in Christchurch at 1355hrs. EK 413 will then depart Christchurch at 1820hrs, arriving in Sydney at 1940hrs. The final leg of EK 413 will depart to Dubai at 2145hrs, arriving at 0515hrs local time. Customers in Christchurch will not only be able to enjoy the airline’s flagship aircraft, but will also experience the debut of the highly sought-after Premium Economy cabin and latest products across every class of travel. Emirates has been flying to New Zealand for 20 years, a sign of its ongoing commitment to the market. Throughout the pandemic, Emirates continued to serve the country, both through connecting New Zealand and the world with daily flights, as well as its SkyCargo services bringing essential goods in and out of the nation. The Emirates A380 experience remains highly sought after by travellers. Customers travelling to and from Christchurch can look forward to enjoying its spacious and comfortable cabins, signature products that offer travellers the best experiences in the sky like the Onboard Lounge, First Class suites, Shower Spa and an award-winning inflight entertainment system that includes more than 5,000 channels of on-demand entertainment. Currently, Emirates’ A380 is deployed to almost 40 global destinations with more routes to be announced in the near future. Ridden by Panamanian jockey Oscar Chavez, who also partnered him when winning the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 last month, he was positioned in a handy fourth on the rail just behind a fast pace. Turning for home, Barakka travelled best with Hayyan under persuasion looking for daylight but once that came he quickly went past the Ahmad bin Harmash representative. Barakka showed he is all heart, fighting back and even reclaiming the lead for a brief moment until Hayyan reeled him back in the final 10 metres to win by a short head. A messy beginning for 2021 winner Deryan ended his hopes of reclaiming his Dubai Kahayla Classic crown while last year’s victor First Classs was never comfortable in the early stages of the race but made good ground towards the finish, ultimately grabbing third. Al Jahoori, who first won this race with Rabbah De Carrere in 2014, said: "To win this for a second time is a dream and I'm very happy. I have to thank His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his support." His son and assistant trainer Sultan added: "Congratulations to my team. Hayyan did very well. He won Round 2 and we were hopeful that he would come and win again today. He did well and won a very exciting race. "This horse is very sensitive. My heart stopped when I saw him stopping (near the finishing post) but he carried on and thankfully he won. My dad won this for the first time when I was just 14 years old, Rabbah De Carrere was one of the best horses we've ever had and finally we've had another champion with Hayyan. I hope that there are more to come. "I'm not sure what we will do next, we will have to talk to the boss." Oscar Chavez, winning jockey, said: “The moment the trainer legged me up, I knew that he was way better than his last run. I knew that he would jump and put himself into a good spot without forcing him too much. "He slowed down a little bit but he saw the other horse and he committed again. It is a great way to cap the season and I have to say thanks to all of the owners and the trainers for the support." Barakka (2nd), jockey Ray Dawson said: "Heartbroken. You’d rather lose by a couple of lengths than to be beaten like that but he’s still an inexperienced young horse and there is always next year when hopefully he’ll improve. That's racing, someone's got to come up on the losing end but he gave me his all and I couldn't be prouder of him." First Classs (3rd), jockey Maxime Guyon said: “The horse has run a lot through the winter and went to Abu Dhabi and Qatar. He had every right to be a tiny bit fatigued. But I had a good trip, he broke well and I was able to get a good sit, covered up on the outer and without having to face too much kickback. The horse lacked a real turn of foot like he showed last year but he ran all the way to the line and it was a good run." Trainer Jean de Mieulle said: "He's run well and everyone is very happy. He got a fair amount of kickback which made it tricky and he's been on the go a long time. We'll give him a break and then prepare him for Goodwood in the summer." Kerless Del Roc (5th), jockey Fernando Jara said: "I got a good trip and a good position, we were going at a good pace and I thought he would give me something at the end. When the 600m came, I let him go a little bit and when he didn’t go I knew I was in trouble so maybe next time." Jugurtha De Monlau (6th), jockey Patrick Dobbs said: "He was restless in the gate and he missed the kick so it was game over for him. He has to be in front." AF Alajaj (9th), jockey Tadhg O'Shea said: "He jumped, he travelled and he got a lovely trip all along. The 10 furlongs probably stretched him, but he’s a top horse going a mile. " Deryan (10th), jockey Bernardo Pinheiro said: "It was over at the start." RB Rich Lyke Me (11th), jockey Adrie de Vries said: "He was flat as a pancake." Mujeeb (14th), jockey Richard Mullen said: "He's never been on this track before. He broke okay but seemed to struggle a bit on this track for the first time." Winning time: 02:14:15 (race record 02:11.87)

  • In Geneva, birth of the brand "S by Salanitro"

The birth of the brand "S by Salanitro", comprises a collection of rare and precious "Haute Couture" objects. Pierre Salanitro et Hania Bailly (Bailly Gallery) From left to right: Nasr Al Majed et Pierre Salanitro S by Salanitro is a new brand that distinguishes itself by creating exceptional objects, designing and creating unexpected products with a strong and unique identity in the luxury world. Aesthetic and cultural sensitivity, knowledge of materials and precious stones, exceptional know-how from the Métiers d'Art of jewellery creation in Haute Horlogerie, S by Salanitro is a Swiss brand created by Pierre Salanitro whose vocation is to surprise through dazzling and original creations. The sources of inspiration are infinite, always outside of watchmaking. With each creation, sometimes through artistic collaborations, the teams put all their knowledge at the service of an exceptional final product, corresponding to the highest standards of connoisseurs and lovers of rare refinements. While fine watchmaking is the original core business of its founder, S by Salanitro explores new horizons, embodying his passion for unique and precious objects, sources of emotion. The Warrior of Malinaltepec The first creation signed S by Salanitro is a contemporary reinterpretation of the emblematic mask of Malinaltepec discovered in 1921 in southwestern Mexico. Sublimated by the work of the setters and engravers who master technical prowess and artistic sense, each mask, made of vermeil, is highlighted by a multitude of diamonds. Each piece is accompanied by a presentation box made by the best sheath makers in Geneva. A support inside allows the mask to be displayed on the wall. Backgammon, a "Haute couture" game box The second object presented by the S by Salanitro brand is a backgammon. Synonymous with the art of living, Pierre Salanitro offers a precious backgammon, in a very "Haute Couture" artisanal spirit. This luxury backgammon with its contemporary design and exceptional quality materials is made from Swiss wood, set with black diamonds or blue sapphires, and sheathed by the best craftsmen in Geneva. The brand's signature is revealed in the details: a customization service is available for the most personal wishes. The Mirror, reflection of the soul The third object is a mirror created in collaboration with the interior architect and designer Aline Erbeia, founder of the brand "The Precious Energy". Inspired by the Mexican "Calaveras", it is made of lacquered wood and is composed of 1,277 precious and semi-precious stones, each with a particular meaning. Having required 350 hours of meticulous work to position each stone, this mirror speaks to us and sends messages of peace, serenity and harmony through the stones that compose it. Size, shape, color, number of stones...the possibility of customization is also possible in order to offer an even more exceptional character to the creation.

  • Maurice Lacroix unveils new models for three of its iconic watch collections

Ahead of Geneva Watch Week, Maurice Lacroix, the Jura-based brand renowned for continuously striving to improve its products, further expands three of its iconic collections presenting new watch models imbued with high perceived value. Maurice Lacroix unveils four new references for the PONTOS Chronograph 43mm, as well as the latest PONTOS Day Date that now comes in new packaging made of #tide Ocean Material®, and the brand has updated AIKON Quartz, comprising four new 35mm models as well as a bi-colour watch housed in a 40mm case. Maurice Lacroix's new PONTOS Chronograph 43mm, is all about excellence in wearability and attention to details with sophisticated sunbrushed dials, presented in a choice of black or gunmetal grey. As they can be paired with a leather strap or 3 rows bracelet, the end result feels as having two completely different watches, both in impeccably contemporary style and timeless appeal that the brand is renowned for. All images courtesy of Maurice Lacroix Watches Never a brand to stand still, Maurice Lacroix has revisited its highly popular PONTOS collection, releasing new versions of its Chronograph model. Already a highly refined composition, the latest PONTOS Chronograph encompasses a series of subtle, smile-inducing enhancements, designed to further enrich the overall ownership experience. The hour track now features Arabic numerals, denoting the hours clearly while simultaneously infusing the dial with a dose of modernity. The hour and minute hands are partially openworked and incorporate white Super-LumiNova, augmenting visibility in dim light conditions. This luminescent treatment is also repeated on the central chronograph seconds hand. Throughout this composition, Maurice Lacroix’s design team has focussed on optimising legibility and enriching the overall sense of luxury. The minute track is presented on the flange, clear and crisp, while the dial’s surface encompasses a sunray motif that wonderfully engages with light. The 12-hour chronograph register, positioned at 6 o’clock, incorporates a date display which is presented on a colour coordinating disc, adding to the overall sense of cohesion. An exhibition caseback affords sight of the automatic ML112 calibre. The movement is appointed with Côtes de Genève and circular graining, while the rotor is embellished with vertical Côtes de Genève and sun brushing. Wearers are indulged with a choice of a 3-rows stainless steel bracelet or black leather strap. The latter option comes with the now-legendary M-logo, a detail that reinforces the overall sense of sumptuousness. Consistent with its popular AIKON collection, the new PONTOS Chronograph 43mm features the brand’s Easy Strap Exchange System, providing a simple, user-friendly means of swapping the strap for an alternative without the need for tools. The packaging for the new PONTOS Chronograph is yet another example of Maurice Lacroix’s proactive approach to watchmaking. Building on the successful launch of the AIKON #tide collection, a range of models made from upcycled ocean-bound waste, the brand is now supplying all its watches in packaging made of #tide Ocean Material®. It takes 34 bottles to make each watch box which means 34 fewer bottles polluting the sea. Each box includes a space to store an additional strap in a dedicated compartment and features a QR code which, when scanned, links to a digital user manual, obviating the need for paper instructions, once again mitigating any ecological impact. While the previous version of the PONTOS Chronograph was unquestionably impressive, the Jura-based watch brand has continuously sought to improve the watches it produces. This is manifest with the latest PONTOS Chronograph 43mm, a model that serves to underscore the company’s reputation for delivering high perceived value. Maurice Lacroix PONTOS Day Date 41mm The PONTOS Day Date has been updated and now benefits from several subtle enhancements. Consistent with Maurice Lacroix’s unrelenting pursuit of continuous improvement, the latest PONTOS Day Date is not only better, it now comes in new packaging made of #tide Ocean Material®, helping to make the seas that little bit cleaner. Moreover, each watch, whether worn on a strap or bracelet, upholds the brand’s reputation for delivering high perceived value. The Maurice Lacroix PONTOS has always been a refined expression of luxury watchmaking where seemingly small details collectively promise lasting ownership delight. Now, the model has evolved, proffering even higher standards of refinement while at the same time upholding Maurice Lacroix’s reputation for delivering high perceived value. By judiciously juxtaposing different hues, textures, lines and curves, Maurice Lacroix has produced a dial that is rich in detail, beautifully appointed and eminently simple to read. Faceted hour and minute hands, lined with white Super-LumiNova, collaborate with applied indexes to impart meaning clearly and with style. The minute track does not hug the edge of the dial, but sits inside the hour track, providing an attractive break with tradition. Slightly recessed, the track employs neat markings and uses tonal contrast to provide an effective means of delineation. As the model’s name implies, the dial is endowed with two apertures, one positioned below 12 o’clock, showing the prevailing day, and a second at 6 o’clock, indicating the date. Once more, by playing with depths, the brand has enriched the appearance of the dial. The PONTOS Day Date is offered in a choice of three dial colours, including black, silver and anthracite. All dials are enlivened with a sunray motif, complemented with silver or golden-toned hands and indexes. The stainless case, measuring 41mm in diameter, unites brushed and polished surfaces to bestow a sophisticated look while the automatic ML143 calibre can be admired via the exhibition caseback. The movement is appointed with Côtes de Genève and colimaçon and the rotor is embellished with vertical Côtes de Genève and sun brushing. Wearers are indulged with a choice of a 3-rows stainless steel bracelet or black leather strap. The latter option sports the M-logo, a detail that reinforces the overall sense of sumptuousness. Consistent with its popular AIKON collection, the new PONTOS Day Date features the brand’s Easy Strap Exchange System, providing a simple, user-friendly means of swapping the strap for an alternative without the need for tools. The packaging for the new PONTOS Day Date is yet another example of Maurice Lacroix’s proactive approach to watchmaking. While the previous version of the PONTOS Day Date was unquestionably impressive, the Jura-based watch brand has endowed this new model with an array of refinements, heightening the overall ownership experience. Recommended retail price For models with leather strap: CHF 1’900.- For models with stainless steel bracelet: CHF 1'950.- In 2016, the Maurice Lacroix AIKON burst onto the watch scene, uniting urban style and Swiss precision while simultaneously delivering high perceived value. Appealing to both Millennials and members of Gen Z, the urban-inspired watch has proved to be a remarkable success. Nevertheless, the forward-looking watch brand never rests on its laurels, continuously seeking to deliver more. For 2023, Maurice Lacroix unveils a new, updated AIKON Quartz, comprising four new 35mm models as well as a bi-colour watch housed in a 40mm case. In 2016, Maurice Lacroix reinterpreted its iconic model of the 90s, the Calypso, culminating in the release of the AIKON Quartz. Since its release, the AIKON has proved to be a bestseller for the Jura-based watch brand and the collection has grown to encompass mechanical movements, different dial colours, various case materials and complications. From the outset, the model, with its distinctive bezel endowed with six arms, resonated with style conscious wearers appreciative of its modern looks. Other distinguishing features include a flat sapphire crystal, sitting flush with the neighbouring bezel, the screwed crown and screwed caseback, as well as the integrated bracelet or strap. Nevertheless, despite enjoying extraordinary success with its urban-inspired model, the Swiss brand continues to conceive new versions of its iconic watch. In this instance, Maurice Lacroix has revisited the inaugural AIKON Quartz and updated the model, releasing four new 35mm references as well as unveiling a new bi-colour watch housed in a 40mm case. While on vacation this season, ‘escape from it all’ with a summery watch sporting a fresh-faced white dial. This latest model, housed in a 35mm stainless steel case, is water resistant to 100m, making it ideal for ‘chillin’ by the pool. When the sun goes down and the dance floor beckons, this highly versatile watch sparkles with its diamond-set indexes, while evincing a bright glow with its luminescent hands. A centre seconds hand and date aperture at 3 o’clock complete the inventory of functions. The watch is available on a choice of a 5-rows stainless steel bracelet or a white M-branded rubber strap. Consistent with other AIKON models, the watch is endowed with an Easy Strap Exchange system, allowing the wearer to swap the strap for an alternative without the need for tools. While the white dial evokes thoughts of purity, the new black dial looks dark, knowing and naughty! Sharing the same case and dial layout as its virtuous sibling, this horological temptress is highly practical, day or night, but also notably glamorous with its diamond-set indexes. Presented on a black M-branded rubber strap, the watch can easily blend with the night sky when discretion is required. For a more conservative look, the new blue dial proves an elegant expression of urban-style with its silver-toned indexes incorporating Super-LumiNova® treatment. The matching hour and minute hands also evince a nocturnal glow, aiding readability in dim light conditions. Once again, housed in a 35mm stainless steel case, the watch is presented on a blue M-branded rubber strap, matching the dial and its effortlessly cool vibe. Maurice Lacroix unveils a new bi-colour #AIKON presented in a 40mm case that delivers extraordinary wrist-presence. The six-arms spanning the stainless-steel bezel are dressed in 4N PVD gold, adding a dose of warmth to the composition. The silver sun-brushed dial serves as a foil for the gold-toned hands and indexes to shine brightly, even on a grey day. The date aperture at 3 o’clock is also framed in 4N PVD gold, heightening the overall sense of luxury. Lastly, the model is presented on a 5-rows bi-colour bracelet, completing the look of this stylish ensemble. Consistent with other AIKON models, these latest references unite contemporary style and Swiss precision while delivering high perceived value, a winning formula that Maurice Lacroix has perpetuated since the advent of the first AIKON back in 2016. Be part of the success story.

  • Biver new watch brand unveiled in Switzerland

Today, Jean-Claude Biver & Pierre Biver launched their watch brand, near Geneva, in a magnificent 18th century Swiss farmhouse (their new offices & workshops) in front of an audience of international media and industry personalities. From left to right : Kari Voutilainen, Max Büsser, Luc Pettavino From left to right : Edouard Meylan, Pierre Jacques, Ahmed Seddiqi Jean-Claude Biver, after nearly 50 years in the watchmaking industry, and his 22-year-old son Pierre have together embarked on a new adventure: the creation of a highly exclusive and prestigious brand. To this end, they called upon the best specialists in each field (dials, hands, bracelet, case, etc.) to create museum-quality pieces of great prestige. The first chapter of this story, which is just beginning to unfold, is dedicated to a watchmaking complication that is close to their hearts: a minute repeater. Or more precisely, a minute repeater with a tourbillon and a micro rotor. Bicolor The sound of eternity Because sound is a vibration that can be related to the world of emotions, it is through sound that the Biver adventure continues: with a minute repeater. This complication, both useful and poetic, manifests the sound of eternity. “Do different.” The way watchmaking industry legend and legendary collector Jean-Claude Biver and the lover of historical watches that is his son Pierre Biver see it, it means a return to the origins of horology. Doing things differently is also about choosing to start with complexity. That is why the first chapter of the book that is now being written is a minute repeater. It is important to understand that, to Jean-Claude and Pierre Biver, technology is there to serve the philosophy of the founders, and not the other way around. “We want the minute repeater to be the cornerstone of the brand,” explains Pierre Biver, “made to a design we both could identify with, and with a movement that serves the aesthetic we defined. A contemporary watch, inspired by tradition and representative of both my father and me.” But how do you make the minute repeater, a mechanism invented in the 18th century, contemporary? “With a new, different sound that is bound to have collectors perk their ears. We added a third hammer, which requires a very fine adjustment of the tempo to get the tone just right,” explains Pierre Biver. And so, during the creative process driven by father and son, the minute repeater evolved into a carillon. “We also opted for a tourbillon with a titanium cage, which makes it lighter but also more challenging to decorate, as well as modern bridges; and to power the watch we have a micro-rotor,” he adds. Titanium Rose Gold When you take the time to look at all the details that make the Biver minute repeater unique, that’s when you begin to understand the relentless, uncompromising pursuit of perfection behind this watch. Even the smallest parts, including those that cannot be seen, have been decorated by hand according to the highest standards of artistry; they have been polished, satin-finished, grained, and flame-blued. It is in the finishing that one recognizes the Biver signature: a quest for invisible beauty. “We decided to decorate all the faces of all the components of the movement,” the Bivers say. “To achieve this, we had to push our partners to develop techniques for decorating certain parts of the pieces that were not originally designed to be decorated. The underside of the bridges, for example, is hand-grained, which is very rarely done.” Another example: the stone dial – in sodalite – is domed, a challenge. “It is very difficult to make because of its infinitesimal thickness: the stone affixed to a gold plate is 1.15 mm high; counting the applied indexes, the total height is just 1.6 mm. The wafer-thin stone itself does not exceed 0.6mm. The difficulty resides in obtaining this domed appearance without breakage during the polishing phase.” This watch is not one to reveal all its mysteries at first glance. Each one of its constituent elements holds meaning in the eyes of the Bivers. It gives us much more than the hour, the quarters and the minutes. This model is a distillation of watchmaking culture that is aimed at the enlightened enthusiast. “It has a past-present feel: our dials are domed, a nod to the watchmaking of times gone by, yet our indexes are modern and curved. Our hands are dauphine-shaped with planed crests, the angles are polished and the top has a satin finish,” says Pierre Biver. Wherever the eye roams, there is something to catch it. Everywhere you look, plays of light and shadow tell a contrasting story. The movement of light over the watch evokes the passage of time, echoing the entire philosophy that underpins the Biver brand: to build a temporal bridge linking past, present and future. The five-link metal bracelet is specially designed for the brand. But here the links seem to want to break away from the shadow to better enter the light. “It was constructed as an integral bracelet, but it’s actually interchangeable,” explains Pierre Biver. “As for the crown, which is the most direct connection between watch and wearer, we wanted it to be substantial, with a vintage vibe.” Through a loupe it can be seen that the fluting is polished, and the inner face of each tooth is micro-bead blasted. Despite its preciousness – or perhaps because of it – this minute repeater was designed to be worn every day, everywhere and under any circumstance. The case is water resistant to 5 ATM (about 50 meters). “It is shower-proof, and the owner can take it into the pool, though we wouldn’t recommend wearing it to swim laps every morning,” smiles Pierre Biver. “It’s a way to dedramatize the minute repeater, to get it out of its usual context, and especially out of its box.” “Even though they are very valuable, we want our pieces to be user-friendly, ‘use-friendly’ really, and for the collector to enjoy them on a daily basis. The choice of an automatic movement equipped with a micro-rotor makes this watch absolutely a daily wearer. We see technology as being at the service of our vision, but above all at the service of the client. The best way to bring a watch to life is to wear it,” he adds. The Biver minute repeater is both a collector’s item and an object of curiosity. Beyond embodying the art of watchmaking, it carries more subtle messages. The watch has an energy all its own: in addition to the sound that emanates from it, there is also the energy of the stone that makes up its dial. Dials are made of hard stone: silver obsidian or sodalite. “We chose these stones for their spiritual attributes, for the energy they radiate. Sodalite is soothing and has a protective quality. Silver obsidian is about rebirth," explains Pierre Biver. “It's also a way to reconnect with the energy of the Earth.” The beauty of the watch comes from a juxtaposition of contradictory elements: satin and polished finishes, straight lines and roundness, shadow and light, past and present, sound and silence. From this tension, a balance is born. All the components contained in this watch, all the materials, all the finishes, form a whole as alive as the two people who chose them and who entrusted to others – “the hands that make the miracle” – the task of constructing this minute repeater. Paradoxically, as we look at the watch, we forget the passing of time. But does it matter? “A watch has value for us because of its spiritual aspect, because of the soul it carries,” says Jean-Claude Biver. “Because an object without a soul is a dead object. We want to give birth to the soul of the watch.”

  • BYRNE exposes the GyroDial ZERO

BYRNE presents the GyroDial ZERO, completely laid bare, the brand unveils the background story to where and how it all began… The GyroDial ZERO retraces the origins of the creation of BYRNE Watch. A vision, a movement, a singular animation, playful, so simple in appearance, and yet... so complicated to develop and never seen before in watchmaking. The Byrne Watch brand was launched only 7 months ago during the Geneva Watch Days. And since then, the most important retailers in Japan, the United States, Canada, Germany and France have recognized in this watch and in the brand all the attributes of a creative independent watchmaker! Dynamic! Energetic! Agile! Active! The Byrne Watch team – led by passionate creator John Byrne and Claire Byrne, the company's CEO, at his side – is moving fast, mastering growth and success with wisdom and substance. Together, they nurture a long-term vision, with, as a central theme: A watch with multiple faces that changes its dial every day: Every night at midnight, or at noon, fluid and fast, the four indexes – in the form of pivoting cuboids at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock – transform themselves and reveal a new look. The GyroDial ZERO: A watch laid bare The GyroDial ZERO is presented in two versions: Rhodium Silver and Rhodium Black. More than a new model, this is a new watch, offering a dimension that is distinctly different to the original model unveiled last summer in Geneva. Laid bare, revealed, the GyroDial ZERO's movement itself is brought to light: it becomes the watch face. The components are revealed in multiple shades of gray. Bridges, screws, plate, cardinal marker cuboids are finished in Rhodium Silver or Rhodium Black. The GyroDial ZERO starts from the essence, offering the wearer the full vision of the beautiful mechanism. True to its foundational concept, the watch changes its dial every day, at midnight or noon, or on demand, with its four indexes at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock altering their face – fluid and fast – to present a new look in the spirit of the brand’s motto: “Change your mind in a flash”. The GyroDial: Desire One watch, four faces, as if by magic, every morning. Roman numerals, Arabic numerals, invisible dial or a sports dial with cardinal markers inspired by team jerseys enhanced with SuperLuminova... With its particular bespoke approach, Byrne invents the watch whose dial can change moods every day. At midnight or noon, or on demand, the four cuboids that display the cardinal indexes on the GyroDial ZERO’s dial rotate instantaneously, jumping one stop to reveal another face. Under the impetus of its creator John Byrne, three years of research and development in Fleurier, Switzerland, went into creating this patented animation complication; and for the GyroDial ZERO, the caliber 5555 has been entirely redesigned. With its long, lithe curves of titanium, the ‘movement‑dial’ and its hand-grained finishes presents a modern, sleek aesthetic. In exposing the movement, John Byrne sends the refreshing message that you don’t need an exclusively skeletonized movement to be inventive. GYRO DIAL ZERO Rhodium Silver
