  • Stella McCartney unveils world’s first sustainable BioSequins material

Stella McCartney revolutionizes fashion with world’s first sustainable BioSequins material FASHION & LEATHER GOODS MARCH 15, 2023 © Annie Leibovitz / Vogue US Ecouter la page Stella McCartney has debuted an exclusive and pioneering creation on the cover of the April 2023 edition of Vogue magazine. The jumpsuit worn by model, eco-activist and House friend Cara Delevingne is made using BioSequins, a biodegradable and non-toxic material innovated from plant-based cellulose, using no metals, minerals or synthetic pigments or colorants. “Who says sustainability can’t be sexy? Cara is breathtaking in this rare, precious garment and I am so grateful that Vogue has given us the platform to share it and inspire others to see the potential of a more conscious future of fashion.” – Stella McCartney. A pioneer in sustainable and conscious luxury, the British Maison champions bold values and is committed to having a positive impact on the environment. It has ambitions to use only recycled, recyclable and biobased alternatives. The fashion industry is a massive contributor to the world’s plastic problem. British women, for example, purchase 33 million sequined garments each festive season, of which 1.7 million end up in landfill after being worn just five times. Some 35% of microplastics released into the world’s oceans come from synthetic clothing. Collaborating with Radiant Matter – a startup that is developing a new generation of color and material solutions for the circular economy – brings the House one step closer to its goals. Since 2010 #StellaMcCartney has been a PVC-free brand, including the sequins it uses in its collections. “We have loved Stella McCartney’s uncompromising approach to sustainability and aesthetics, which are reflected in any decision, down to the fabric and thread choice, resulting in a stunning yet fully plant-derived garment.” — Elissa Brunato, founder of Radiant Matter.

  • Dior conference with UNESCO to promote the empowerment of women

UNESCO & Women@Dior held new edition of global conference in Paris to promote the empowerment of women Copyright Dior In conjunction with International Women’s Day, Dior and UNESCO hosted the latest edition of the UNESCO & Women@Dior Global Conference. The event at UNESCO headquarters in Paris celebrated education, equal opportunity, inclusion and gender equality, the priorities at the heart of the Women@Dior mentoring and educational program. Initiated in 2017 by Emmanuelle Favre, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Christian Dior Couture, the program has provided support for female students in nearly 60 countries. Women@Dior is designed specifically for a new generation of women eager to create a more sustainable world. In 2020, this commitment led Dior to join the Global Coalition for Education created by UNESCO. Each year some 400 young women benefit from mentoring around five core values for Dior: self-awareness, empowerment, inclusion, creativity and sustainability. The day culminated with the presentation of the winners of the Dream for Change Project. Five teams presented their project to encourage the independence of girls in their local communities. The prestigious jury was chaired by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior Artistic Director for Women’s collections, and included documentary filmmaker Loïc Prigent. The young mentorees and their mentors had an opportunity to dialogue with leaders from LVMH, Maison Dior and UNESCO. Franco-Iranian actress Mina Kavani and Hafsat Abiola, President of the Women in Africa organization, shared inspirational messages in speaking about their commitments. During this event marked by the power of sisterhood, Chantal Gaemperle, #LVMH Group Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Synergies, Emmanuelle Favre and Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for Education at UNESCO, all shared their visions of the empowerment of women. Charles Delapalme, Managing Director of Christian #Dior Couture and Monika Figlewicz, President of Christian Dior Couture China, discussed the role of men as allies for the success of women in both professional and personal domains. Maria Grazia Chiuri spoke with Karishma Swali, Artistic Director of the Chanakya Ateliers and founder of the Chanakya School of Craft, about the themes of feminism, creativity and craft. Successful women entrepreneurs Hyojeong Kim, founder of NomadHer, and Maud Caillaux, creator of Green Got, were also among the guest speakers, offering insights on creating businesses with positive social impact. To cap the inspiring day, mentees and professors from prestigious schools including the Institut Français de la Mode (IFM)) EFAP (L’École des Nouveaux Métiers de la Communication), created a collective work of art to be passed on to future cohorts. The duo Ibeyi provided musical entertainment during the conference as well. A video of the event will be available on the Christian Dior Couture LinkedIn page and the official Women@Dior site from March 13.

  • Czapek & Cie unveils a brand new model in its Antarctique collection

Ahead of Watches and Wonders Geneva, Czapek & Cie has launched a brand new model in its Antarctique collection. This new three-hand timepiece takes a serene, geometrical approach to the display of time and remains true to the company’s savoir-faire. The Titanium Dark Sector will be available to buy at Czapek.com, and at the brand's official retailer network starting on APRIL 1st 2023. A brand-new model has been introduced by Czapek & Cie in their Antarctique line. This brand-new three-hand timepiece adheres to the company's commitment to top-notch production and craftsmanship while taking a peaceful, geometrical approach to the presentation of time. All courtesy of Czapek. In essence, there are two sets of fundamental laws that apply to any watch. The first is mechanics, which essentially demands that everything run like a well-oiled machine. The second is aesthetics, which is much more arbitrary: a watch needs to be aesthetically pleasing, provocative, and enticing. The Antarctique Titanium "Dark Sector," flawlessly balances them both, being powered by the calibre SXH5, and featuring dark grey dial with clear white details that provide 3D and shadow thus enhancing the visual result and readability. The key to this Antarctique’s appeal is in the careful use of space. A traditional minute track has been discreetly placed around the edge of a smooth anthracite dial. It surrounds a double row of lightly arched parallel segments that are interrupted at each numeral. The sword hour hand points to the gaps like a ship seeking entrance into a harbour, while the minute and second hands sweep the dial each at their own pace, closing the gaps for a moment. This creates a kind of animation, a slight change in the visual geometry. “The idea is simple, but requires great precision to execute,” says CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel. “The hands crossing from segment to segment over the dusky backdrop of the dial looks almost like a shoreline seen from far above. The dial was designed in such a way that the marker becomes the void between each sector (an almost philosophical way of defining matter). This spontaneously inspired the model’s name ‘Dark Sector’, which comes from the Dark Sector Laboratory and telescopes at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. The skies over Antarctica are the clearest and darkest in the world…”. The Antarctique Titanium ‘Dark Sector’ emerged naturally from the collection’s elegant case and bracelet of brushed titanium with the sensually rounded crown protector. These shades of grey inspired the model’s overall monochrome scheme, which highlights the two touches of colour on the dial, namely the red dot at twelve o’clock, and the tip of the second hand. The watch runs on Czapek’s robust automatic calibre SXH5, the first to be entirely conceived in-house. It is driven by a microrotor of recycled platinum and provides up to sixty hours of autonomy. An exhibition case reveals the fine architecture, with seven bridges that hark back to 19th-century pocket watch movements. The movement’s height of 4.5 millimetres means that this new model is as sportive and elegant as all the others in the Antarctique family. The Antarctique Titanium ‘Dark Sector’ will be available in a limited yearly production of 100 pieces at Czapek’s authorized dealers worldwide, its flagship store in Geneva and at Czapek.com.

  • Audrey Fleurot inaugurates her wax double at the Grévin Museum in Haute couture by Julien Fournie

2023-03-16 18:18:55 On Thursday March 16, the actress revealed in Kaamelott then Engrenages stands on the Grands Boulevards, in Paris' Grévin Museum (grevin-paris.com) dressed by Julien Fournié. It is placed in the Hall of Columns, between Leonardo di Caprio and Meryl Streep. All images courtesy of Julien Fournié Haute Couture (julienfournie.com) For #AudreyFleurot, having her wax double at the #Grévin museum is a paradox. She never remains motionless, or almost. During the posing sessions in front of Claus Velte, the sculptor, she did not move for a single moment. Six months of work were needed to create the statue, dressed in a haute couture dress by Julien Fournié. She then resumed a breakneck pace which, for nearly twenty years, has allowed her to successfully move from one television series to another, from a film to the dubbing of a documentary, with a fake pose, the time to preside over a film or television festival.

  • Louis Vuitton show Fall/Winter 2023 redefines French fashion

The Musée d'Orsay's vaulted salons once again set the backdrop to the Louis Vuitton show for the Fall/Winter 2023 collection, with set designer James Chinlund and artist Philippe Parreno once more signing the scenography with a motif based on Nicolas Becker's aural illusions. The question "What defines French fashion?" is the scene. Fall-Winter 2023 Women’s Fashion Show Collection © Louis Vuitton – All rights reserved The French chic is celebrated across the world thanks to its history and current ambassadors, many of whom attended the show. Thus Paris' indisputable number one ranking as the capital of fashion is undeniable even today, when fashion is much more democratized and the historical role fashion played in the Ancién Regime during the time of the French courts has diminished yet remains a strong backbone to the present French fashion identity. Despite all the rival social media, famous people, various Tik Tok ensembles, and inventive, creative styles, the French reference remains the joker and a favorite for them all. Some of the most famous names in fashion are French, and Louis Vuitton is without doubt one of them and appears to remain so. And when the new creative director takes over, who can predict how popularity will rise even more? It seems that French style is both unique and applicable to other parts of the world at the same time. This issue itself is puzzling and inspires never-ending fascination. Is it an irrational trend sitting on top of an outrageous tradition's oxymoronic base? Or an evolving style in which couture conventions accept an astounding diversity of cultures to become what is known as the French exception, like the palimpsest of many different currents from all over. The paradoxical style of intangible magnetism that still fascinates the world combines refinement with a dabbler's air. The trick of the eye in French appeal The French have a way of captivating people, and this show beautifully captures this force. Ghesquière at the helm of Louis Vuitton has the opportunity to redefine the French style and global style. He has reimagined the "French girl look" that the entire internet is searching for especially after the Netflix series Emily in Paris. Ghesquière's Emily is career woman with oversized strong-shouldered jacket and oversized trousers. Fascinated with futurism and surrealism, the sci-fi note of the show included glowing "eyewear", bags shaped like a Parisian house and his experiment with asymmetrical cut tops that frame naked shoulders very tastefully. But there are also some cosy wrap-up, thick hand-knit scarfs and and boots are also very desirable. Louis Vuitton has always had a wanderlust because of its origins in this unique history. A time-traveling vessel called The Maison celebrates its knowledge, invention, exploration, and artistic aspirations through its own take on French fashion story. Scene of the show.

  • Indian diamond producer Hari Krishna’s Dholakia Foundation at the UN’s first Water Conference

Hari Krishna’s Dholakia Foundation takes the lead in the global water crisis. Indian diamond producer Hari Krishna’s Dholakia Foundation will be the only diamond and jewellery organisation at the UN’s first Water Conference since 1977. Water conservation diamond tycoon Savji Dholakia (above, who left school aged 12 due to water scarcity in his Indian village) who is the founder of the Dholakia Foundation, the only luxury-related organisation at the UN's first Water Conference to take place in 46 years, and whose company Hari Krishna Exports supplies diamonds to luxury jewellery house Tiffany & Co. US | Luxury Jewelry, Gifts & Accessories Since 1837, and the world's largest diamond jewellery retailer Signet. The philanthropy arm of Indian diamond manufacturer Hari Krishna Exports, the Dholakia Foundation, a leader in water conservation projects, is the only organisation associated with the global gem and jewellery industry, which is participating at the United Nations 2023 Water Conference, taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York, from 22 to 24 March, convened by the UN General Assembly. The last UN conference on water took place in 1977. The Dholakia Foundation will also host a Gala Dinner on 19 March in New York inaugurating 111 lakes it has created in India and announcing its commitments to water conservation and the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, established by Kering and Cartier. The conference will tackle topics including drought risk, biodiversity and access to clean water and basic hand hygiene in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Out of 728 private organisations attending the conference, 29 Indian organisations have been accredited. Other organisations attending the event include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Deloitte Consulting, Gap, Heineken, Gallup, BHP and Goldsmiths, University of London. Hari Krishna Exports is one of the largest producers of diamonds in the world and supplies industry giants including luxury jewellers Tiffany and the world’s largest diamond jewellery retailer Signet. Hari Krishna and The Dholakia Foundation’s founder is Savjibhai Dholakia, perhaps best known for implementing a company Loyalty Bonus Program for staff which since 2014 has rewarded over 4600 staff for their hard work with incentives in the form of houses, cars and jewellery. In 2018, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Hari Krishna’s Incentive Ceremony to congratulate staff handing over keys personally to some employees and joining 25,000 family members via a video conference. On a mission to lead a revolution in lake construction in order to eradicate the water crisis, Hari Krishna’s Dholakia Foundation recently dedicated the 111th lake it has created in India, with the goal of eliminating drought, disease and economic hardship caused by acute water shortages. The lakes have been built on surface areas of 200 acres, bringing water to nearby villages and creating fertile land for agriculture. The process of constructing one lake can take 20 days with trucks working 24 hours a day and involves excavating 20,000 tonnes of unfertile soil and embedding pipes under the earth to transport water to local areas. The lakes constructed by the Dholakia Foundation have turned desert wasteland into green landscape. 200,000 farmers have benefitted from water levels having increased in wells within a 1000 metre radius, greenery is now evident within 18 kilometres of lakes, farmers’ incomes have increased and their profit has increased three-fold, according to the Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology. Hari Krishna was founded in 1992 by Savjibhai Dholakia, who left school aged 12, dreaming of making his fortune in the diamond business, after witnessing poverty around him largely due to water scarcity. Today Hari Krishna employs 8000 staff, has a turnover of $1.5bn and in 2022 Savjibhai Dholakia was given one of India’s most distinguished honours by the Indian Government, the Padma Shri Award. But Savjibhai Dholakia’s personal dream to eradicate the water crisis is still very much in progress. Founder of Hari Krishna Exports and the Dholakia Foundation, Savjibhai Dholakia says; “For Hari Krishna’s Dholakia Foundation to be accredited as part of the UN 2023 Water Conference in recognition of our water conservation projects, and the 111 lakes we have created in India, is a historic moment for our family as we share on an international stage our commitment to solve the water crisis. I want to ensure our knowledge unites and helps other diamond-producing nations and other countries. I don’t want to die until I solve the water crisis in India. As a child in the village of Dudhala in Gujarat, I witnessed acute water scarcity and my fellow villagers’ daily struggle for water, and I became determined to turn our dry and barren motherland green. It was only a decade ago looking at Google Earth images online that I was struck visually by the shocking extent of the crisis. Less than 3% of water is drinkable and climate change makes rainwater even more scarce. The Dholakia Foundation’s mission to build even more lakes is crucial to changing India’s fate and to a new dawn of empowered farmers.” On Sunday 19 March, Hari Krishna Exports will host a Gala Dinner and networking evening at 583 Park Avenue in New York, which will include a personal welcome from Savjibhai Dholakia and a panel discussion on the theme of 'Water Conservation To Nurture Life and Generations' with Gina Drosos, CEO, Signet; Paul Rowley, VP Sales, De Beers; Brad Hampton, CEO, Helzberg; Susan Jacques, CEO, GIA and Ghanshyambahi Dholakia, MD, Hari Krishna Exports. During the event, Hari Krishna will inaugurate its recently created sustainable lakes, naming them in honour of De Beers, Signet, GIA, Helsberg Diamonds and others to be confirmed. Hari Krishna will also join with Iris Van der Veken to announce its commitment to the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, established by Kering and Cartier. In addition, the Dholakia Foundation will announce its commitments to the UN Water Action Agenda. Confirmed guests at the event also include Melanie Grant, executive director of the Responsible Jewellery Council, and Kristina Buckley Kayel, managing director North America at the Natural Diamond Council.
