  • Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz

Majestic mountains of Engadin in South-East Switzerland set the background to the noble polo sport as the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz opens and the polo action fires up. Unlike many other cultural events and gatherings (even the annual Economic Forum in Davos had to be postponed), the winter sports season has not been canceled, and athletes and fans are gearing up for the world's most luxurious and magnificent snow polo tournament. Swiss precision and world-class performance This annual event is a highlight on both the St. Moritz and Swiss calendars, and it was completely sold out this year, with VIP and Chukka Club tickets all sold out and resort hotels reporting record bookings. But don't forget that the event is free and open to the public in the historic venue's public spaces. The event takes months of planning, and it shows as everything runs with Swiss precision and efficiency, with 120 horses arriving from all over Europe, securely stabled in fully heated luxury, and 2'600 spectators. On the icy lake of St. Moritz, massive infrastructure has been constructed, and players, patrons, and sponsors arrive from all over the world. This event is incredibly exciting – echoing the flamboyant nature of the man that makes it all happen ‘The Godfather of Snow Polo’ Reto Gaudenzi, founder and CEO of the event. This year sees a change to the timetable of the event, with a record six teams entered and three matches each day. To start off proceedings Azerbaijan Land of Fire took on Perrier-Jouët (runners up and third placed at the last event respectively). Despite the forecasts of -10 and snowstorms, it once again seemed that Reto had a direct line to the weather gods and the first match was bathed in sunshine with just the occasional flake of snow falling upon the crowds. On paper it was hard to call who would have the upper hand, but it was Team Azerbaijan Land of Fire who dominated the play, staying deep in their opposition’s half, with Tito Gaudenzi looking strong and solid at back and Raul Laplacette giving everybody a snow polo masterclass despite this being his St. Moritz debut. Azerbaijan Land of Fire showcased a display of strong, four-man polo, with chess like combinations and efficiency. The scores reflected this with Azerbaijan not just the Land of Fire but truly on fire with a conclusive 7 goals to a rather lukewarm 21⁄2 in reply from Perrier-Jouët. The action continued between the all American World Polo League and Clinique La Prairie. The Americans headed up by Marc Ganzi aka ‘The Cobra’, ably abetted by 8 goal Nic Roldan and rounded off by Benji Daniels and Tommy Biddle, on paper presented a real threat to their opponents. First to face them were the strong Clinique La Prairie, under the guidance of Max Charlton who has notched up wins here in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2020 and this year teams up once again with 2020 winning teammate Robert Strom. 2022 is Dillon Bacon’s St. Moritz debut, but the American is certainly once to watch, with top titles such as The Queen’s Cup and French Open under his belt. • Zuhair Murad Spring-Summer 2022 Haute Couture Collection

A genuine invitation to a hunt for buried riches, the Zuhair Murad Spring-Summer 2022 Haute Couture Collection takes us back on a quest for the It is intrinsic to the notion that nothing is ever lost and that everything is waiting. patiently to emerge once more beneath the sun of the brightest day. Guests at the show, actress Leila Ben Khalifa Zuhair Murad's couture for 2022 is a vision at the crossroads of the Grand Siècle and the digital era. As we reset for our wondrous era, the hand-embroidered patterns serve as time-worn navigation charts elucidated with lavish embroidery on ball gowns or in tattoos on tulle, an art form in which the Maison perceives its signature, with the navigation routes intersecting in magnificent golden contours and forming constellations. The hat style became signature look at the royal court of King Louis XIV, who made it fashionable throughout Europe, both as a civilian and military dress. Tricorn hats, now playfuly combined with pleated organza couture looks, give the wearer a sense of regality and majesty, sending her to a world of secret hidden islands and restoring the opulence of the high seas era. All in collection featuring bouquet of pleated organza shirts with balloon sleeves, brocade waistcoats, midi skirts in sunray-pleated lamé fabric, cascades of tulle enveloping shorts, long dresses in silk chiffon, jumpsuits, and fitted jackets in crepe cady, as well as jewels incorporated into the textiles. As the show progresses,in the elated interior of the Westin Paris, the very selected invited guests for this intime show are overwhelmed by sensual pirates bedecked with ornate jewels, emerging from a spectacular wreck to set off once more to conquer uncharted lands. The collection silhouettes were perfectly fitted to a seemingly longer-legged cast than what you normally see on a Zuhair Murad couture catwalk—that were enhanced by asymetric dresses, often with a dramatic thigh-high slit, as in looks like drapedbourgundy red and a strapless black deep velvet gown, with sculptural neckline ruffles, a bustle, two diamond clips, and a wraparound belt around an asymmetrical bodice. His signature asymetric lines and Hellenistic drapery morphed into shapes that were more dynamic, more 21st-century, and more glamorous. The floor-length dresses are so long and light that they touch the front row seated as they fly in the air after the model, and it is possible to admire up-close silver embroidery on their outfits that is darkened on purpose, in striking contrast to the tangles of gold chains and pearls slung from the models' slender waists. In an all-encompassing palette dominated by the aged pink of maritime dawns, the pallid red of canopies faded by sun and salt, the sand of beaches and deserts, and the rust of oxidized metals, along with traces of the blue or green of the water when it reflects the sky, brocades and embroideries bring back to life the flamboyance attenuated by the passage of time.

  • Maison Georges Hobeika Couture collection

Maison Georges Hobeika celebrates in its new spring-summer 2022 couture collection the delicious feeling of euphoria and the wonderful impression of invincibility produced by the first kiss. An unforgettable moment where the emotions of a budding love translate into butterflies in your stomach and where the impulses of the heart seems to beat suddenly in unison with the stars to embrace a new ocean of possibilities. These manifestations of bliss, ecstasy but also calm that overwhelm both your body, spirit and soul to let blossom a new version of yourself have inspired the Maison with an anthology of radiant silhouettes. Celebrating the rebirth of flora and fauna - a theme dear to the great couturier - a myriad of twirling feathers, arranged in fringes or bouquets, evoke the joy of flight and the beauty of flowering. Demonstrating to the richness of the Maison Georges Hobeika's know-how, tlight and precious fabrics, sometimes laser-cut, swirl like butterfly wings, unfold their relief along majestic capes, compose intertwining petals or entwine the bodies with grace like a poetic cocoon on which luminous embroideries are blooming with sensuality. • Ulyana Sergeenko atelier introduces new heroine

The heroes and heroines of the fashion house’s new collection are inhabitants of the turbulent 20s –an allusion not only to the tumultuous present decade, but also to the now canonical roaring 1920s. One can face and overcome the flaws of the world by adhering to the laws of beauty. The spirit of an evening at the theatre and other aristocratic functions, emblematic of the turn of the century and art-deco, is implemented through the prism of a contemporary gaze, transforming colour-play, form, and texture into a multifaceted image, referencing to a pivotal fashion innovation brought to the global spotlight by Russian culture. The collection’s impish and mischievous mood is built around constructivist art, modernism, and the world of sports. The viewer is introduced to new Ulyana Sergeenko heroines, confidently stepping forth into the aesthetic realm of the Soviet avant-garde painter Lyubov Popova’s artistic legacy. Pieces of her artworks can be recognised within lace corsets, embroidery patterns, and garment silhouettes. The main symbol of the collection is the delicate hydrangea flower, which unfurls its petals upon elegant evening gowns, day-wear, determined linear geometrical motifs, flowing fabrics and forthright athletic metaphors - all exemplary of the fashion house’s signature abundance of details. A floral print appears in evening gowns as well as a men’s silk-jacquard shirt. Appliques, composed of flower arrangements made of multicoloured crystals and paillettes, decorate wool coats as well as airy silk dresses and jackets. Headpieces, brooches and boas remind one of a freshly picked hydrangea bouquet. Furthermore, a new protagonist enters the house’s narrative: this year, a complete line of menswear looks debuts in the collection –from accessories to a two-piece suit. The pieces encompass the charming lustre of couture and the steadfastness of acquired taste down to the most miniscule details. The nonchalant nature of the menswear was inspired by none other than the remarkable adventurist Ostap Bender. The collection places a particular emphasis upon athletics. Whistle-shaped diamond-encrusted gold pendants establish a link between constructivist art and modern fashion. To strengthen this connection, the fashion house’s designers have created several types of men’s and women’s gloves, which reference sportswear models. Headpieces adopt not only the cascading crystal toilette of the 1920s, but also the silhouette of a swimming cap, bestrewn in an opulent finery of silk-petalled hydrangeas. Men’s and women’s footwear is inspired by vintage ice-skates. A clutch takes the form of a stylised, treasurable tennis racket encrusted with crystal flower arrangements and is paired with a mini-dress based on a tennis uniform. The sporting narrative extends to a knitted ‘sport instructor’ vest, seen in several menswear looks. The fashion house continues its longstanding collaboration with traditional ateliers, incorporating complex handcrafting techniques. Transparent, royal blue and emerald-green crystal details, created at the legendary Maltsov Crystal Factory in Gus’ Khrustalny and diamond-cut in tune with the collection’s linear motifs, adorn bustiers, corsets and hat closures. Yelets lace adornments, woven in floral patterns from gleaming metallic thread and crystals, decorate bustiers, corsets, and dresses. These embellishments are not limited only to details –a gown has been constructed entirely out of lace, requiring 2450 hours of work completed by 10 craftswomen. In an ensemble with Russian craftforms, signature knitting techniques have been developed in the Ulyana Sergeenko atelier. A black dress and a two-tone peach and mint gown have been knitted from fine viscose thread and beads. An intricate method – hand-knitting silk ribbons, interweaving them with crystal beads –was used in the making of a coffee-toned men’s vest and an emerald-green dress; the dress involved 240 hours of manual labour and more than 30 thousand metres of silk webbing. One of the fashion house’s favourite accessories – the boa – returns this season, composed by hand from pompoms of varying sizes, reminiscent of a string of hydrangea blossoms or tennis balls. Each pompom consists of chiffon ribbons and feathers, and the petals are embellished with crystals.

  • Future For Humanity - Interview with Melinda Woolf

Imagining Moonshot Solutions for the Global Goals A conversation with Melinda Woolf, founder and visionary for the Future for Humanity interview Envisioning a Bright Future For Humanity! MoralModa sat down to speak with Melinda Woolf, the founder of Future for Humanity Foundation, on her vision of how to create the impact needed to solve the greatest challenges of our time and at scale, and her work with the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, ensuring the brightest possible Future for Humanity. MoralModa: The Future for Humanity sounds like a large undertaking, tell us more about the foundation. Melinda Woolf: The Future for Humanity Foundation was created to imagine, identify, enable and launch projects that showcase the ‘Moonshots’ needed as standout solutions that ensure we have absolute success for the United Nations Global Goals. MM: What inspired your work with the United Nations Global Goals? MW: In my early twenties, I realized first hand just how much creative storytelling could actually reach and impact people. I traveled the world in my job first in advertising and then in the entertainment industry. As a young creative director and producer my job was to tap into the voice of the biggest consumer brands and for the biggest television networks and shows to tell the stories that could reach the USA mainstream audiences and consumers. Fast forward to 2005, the first time I discovered that the United Nations had anInternational Day of Peace, and at that time, not many people outside of the UN Ecosystem and Policy Makers were even aware of it. It was then that I made the commitment to use all of my creative thinking and vast entertainment experience in storytelling and reaching people, to actually change this. I made it my mission to build awareness for the UN Agenda for Peace, which is currently represented by the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, and to do what I could to make the Goals cool and easy to understand, and available for the general public. Now my whole life is dedicated to this mission to ensure we actually have a future for humanity. I was a young mother and now I have grandchildren. I look into the faces of my grandsons and I see from where we are now, their future is not actually guaranteed, and even less is it positioned to be bright, flourishing and thriving unless we do something now! My whole life is dedicated to this cause, in establishing our collective future for humanity as bright, and to restore the climate so that humanity can flourish and thrive in harmony with nature. MM: Do you feel it’s possible to solve the Global Goals? MW: First and foremost, it IS absolutely possible to solve the Global Goals. We must first ensure that the general public actually knows about what the Global Goals are. And we must make it hopeful, fun, engaging, participatory, inspirational and even celebratory in nature if we want to have a chance of ensuring success for this global mission, and create the necessary awareness. We must rethink the way we do everything, and establish new systems that can recreate, and change things for the better. We don’t need to give up our luxuries, or our conveniences. We simply need to build better inputs and new ways of doing things. The Global Goals are the UN’s vision and roadmap for Peace for Humanity to flourish. And we need every person to stand up and do their part in contributing their unique ‘Piece to this Global Peace Puzzle’. The quickest way we can reach everyone is through Entertainment, Media, Music, The Arts, and through Gamification and Sports. With this global reach and in celebrating what’s possible for the best of humanity, we can do this. Through celebrating what’s actionable we can reach everyone. By coming together and all contributing our unique gifts and talents, we can solve the Global Goals and have a whole lot of fun doing it! MM: You have been working on Solutions for the Global Goals for some time now…What are the Global Goals? MW: The United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development is a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of humans and animals alike. Consisting originally of seventeen goals that were adopted by all UN member states in 2015 as part of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, they recognize that ending poverty must go hand in hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection and job opportunities, while also tackling climate change and other environmental and humanitarian issues. We are all currently witnessing the urgent Climate Action that is needed to restore the climate so that we actually have a future for humanity. The Global Goals serve as a what by when, for solving the greatest challenges of our time and ensuring basic human rights for all. MM: You have designed an 18th Global Goal. #18, Future of Humanity. Why? MW: When imagining solutions that can solve the Global Goals which are basic human rights, we actually need to aspire to do much more. Inspired by JFK’s moonshot directive, Global Goal #18: Future of Humanity, represents the moonshot solutions as the “way out of the box thinking” to our world’s greatest challenges, in a way that we may not have even thought about the problems, much less the solutions that will need to be imagined yet. By opening our thinking and strategically setting our future goals in this way now, we create a greater context and roadmap to work towards what’s possible and absolutely necessary as the tangible and actionable solutions to ensure the brightest Future for Humanity possible. MM: You have quite the global roadmap of events leading up to 2030. What are some of the standout events you have planned for 2022? MW: We are the impact partner for a roadmap of global events that include everything from investment summits and climate change forums, to concert and festival series, and at major sporting events from the Super Bowl to the new E1 electric boat racing series. Our 2022 roadmap begins in January in Dubai, where the Future For Humanity Foundation is excited to be the impact partner for the prestigious Royal Investment Summit (www.royalinvestmentsummit.com), offering a Climate Positive perspective at the summit. We are debuting our EcoVerse Futures Lounge as part of the Summit program, in partnership with esteemed digital artist Yusuke Akamatsu. We also have the honor of gifting the Summit Delegates with a diverse selection of climate-positive luxury products and unique eco-experiences. An exciting addition to the programming will be our curated conversation with renowned Climate Physicist Peter Fiekowsky on the Climate Action needed to successfully restore our climate. MM: What projects are considered for the FFH awards? MW: One of my very favorite things in our 2022 Roadmap is our awards nominations and ceremonies for the Future For Humanity awards series, honoring some of the most incredible people and projects on the planet! Awards Nominees and Recipients have established the best of moonshot solutions and legacy projects for the UN Global Goals. Our Future For Humanity award nominees and winners include people and projects from all walks of life, cross-sector and industry and from all around the world. Our award winners have literally lived into their greatest legacy of what is theirs’ to do, thus establishing the foundation that has paved the way for current and future generations to be able enact real change now when we absolutely need it. Those who have committed to the Future For Humanity Impact Pledge can also nominate people for the Future For Humanity Awards. MM: In speaking about Entertainment and Music, you recently partnered with EarthAid, the producers of LiveAid, at the United Nations Climate Change Summit, COP26, in Glasgow. How was that? What other projects or outcomes have been created since COP26? MW: Yes, we had an incredibly positive experience in Glasgow at COP26. We brought people together at St. Luke’s with amazing award winning musicians and recording artists along with some of the savviest minds of our times to discuss actioning the solutions needed to solve our climate crisis. The outcomes from our presence at COP26 have been phenomenal.
