I

Interactive children’s workshops for eco-enthusiasts this November at Souk Madinat Jumeirah

In the lead-up to COP28 and with 2023 nominated the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, Souk Madinat Jumeirah invites families with children aged 5 and above to join free sustainability-themed arts and crafts workshops led by renowned visual artist and Dubai-based designer Mona Fares.

Running from 13 to 22 November between 4-8pm at the authentic Arabian marketplace and home to popular dining spots, these workshops will promote the art of creative upcycling through various styles and materials. Explore a range of fun crafting sessions, from bottle cap mosaics to upcycling old t-shirts, all while basking in Dubai’s enchanting winter weather.

Workshops have limited spaces available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

  1. Craft Your Own Tiny Garden in a bottle

Introduce little ones to the importance of mindful and eco-conscious living by creating their own mini gardens inside a bottle. With all the materials provided on-site, including soil and seeds, children can personalise recycled water bottles before planting a seed inside and taking their budding ecosystems home to nurture and watch it flourish. It's a hands-on eco-experience they won't want to miss!

Dates: 15 & 20 November

  1. Bottle cap art collages

In this innovative workshop, children will embark on a creative journey and learn the importance of reducing waste by upcycling bottle caps into vibrant mosaics. Kids can pick from caps of different colours and sizes to make eye-catching collages and send a powerful message of sustainability.

Dates: 17 & 22 November

  1. Dip dye and revamp your old clothes.

Another imaginative way to get creative while upcycling, children can bring old clothes and learn signature dyeing techniques such as ombre and tie-dye using fabric or natural dyes at this workshop. Souk Madinat Jumeirah will provide all the necessary equipment needed so children can transform their timeworn favourites into fashion-forward pieces!

Dates: 16 & 21 November

  1. T-shirt transformation

Teach children the fun of upcycling old clothes by bringing one of their old t-shirts as a canvas. Souk Madinat Jumeirah will provide various crafting materials and accessories so children can transform old rags into artsy riches.

Dates: 14 & 19 November

  1. Apron artistry unleashed.

Children can set their culinary careers in motion by decorating their own aprons. Fabric markers, paints and patches, recycled scrap materials, laces and more will be available so kids can really let loose. Bring them around for lunch at one of Souk Madinat Jumeirah’s treasure trove of world-class restaurants, from the award-winning folly to beloved Mexican eatery Maria Bonita, for inspiration.

Dates: 13 & 18 November
