Sir Lewis Hamilton demanded that GPDA members were more involved in the conversation as he claimed drivers can help the sport's future

Sir Lewis Hamilton has been at the pinnacle for Formula 1 for over a decade now, the Briton rising through the karting and junior formula ranks to 7-time world champion having climbed 190 podiums in his career so far. The athlete is also outspoken on matters that concern race and work enviroment and well-beeing.
Now Jackie Stewart has called on F1 bosses to give more power to the Grand Prix Drivers' Association weeks after similar comments from Lewis Hamilton. The three-time world champion said the GPDA should “have more influence” over decisions surrounding the sport. He stressed the body was “much more powerful” when he was chairman of the organisation, according to Express Sport, The group was instrumental in removing the Nurburgring from the calendar after 1976 and also helped organise a driver's strike at the 1982 South African Grand Prix. The organisation was eventually disbanded but reformed after the death of Roland Ratzenberger at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Members meet at most events but the group has lost much of its power when it comes to making key decisions over the sport. The GPDA outlined their dissatisfaction with the sport in a letter to F1 bosses back in 2016.
A few years later in 2019, Lewis Hamilton argued that drivers should have more of a say over the new 2022 regulations. He hit back at F1 for allowing the regulations to be decided by “people with power” while the drivers get little say.

All 20 drivers sat down for a meal ahead of the season finale in a send-off for Sebastian Vettel, prompting Hamilton to outline the possible future of the organisation. The Briton explained: "Maybe we will make this an annual thing here, and maybe we will add another one in the year, but there is a lot we can do as the GPDA, as a united group.
