October 24 – November 28, 2023, 10am – 6pm daily except Sundays, at

Tashkeel at FN Designs, Alserkal Avenue.

Artist-led public tours: Sundays on November 5 and 19, 11am-12pm and 12-1 pm.

Tashkeel, one of the UAE’s key art and design incubators, will be unveiling Ways of Seeing, a solo exhibition by Lebanese artist Jamal Tayara-Baroudy as part of its 2023 Autumn Season. This marks Jamal's first solo exhibition in Dubai, where she will showcase her diverse artistic talents, spanning graphic design, eco-printing, and installation.

The exhibition is a new body of work produced by Jamal as the 17th graduate of Tashkeel’s Critical Practice Programme (CPP). The initiative helps to develop UAE-based talent by offering sustained studio support, training, critique and production for practising artists living in the UAE. Artists’ programmes are carefully constructed around their practice and/or research areas.

As part of the CPP experience, Jamal was mentored by curator Lesley Ann Gray and Dr. Mohammad Abiad, Associate Professor and Director of the Laboratories for the Environment, Agriculture, and Food (LEAF) at the American University of Beirut.

A graduate of the Lebanese American University, Jamal has made a significant contribution to the UAE art scene with her branding agency JamJar Design established in 2002 and her art studio, Art Like, founded in 2011. She has been a member of Tashkeel since 2016 and has exhibited in venues across Dubai and Sharjah.

Commenting on the exhibition, Jamal said, "‘Ways of Seeing' explores the profound connections between human experiences, geography and memory. I have done extensive research over the past 18 months, exploring the giant milkweed (Calotropis Procera) and its connection to heritage and human experiences. The artwork I have created is a re-evaluation of our relationship with nature and the inherent value of flora.”

In addition to artist-led exhibition tours on November 5 and 19 (11am-12pm, 12-1pm), the artist will be in conversation on Tuesday, 31 October (6:30 - 7:30 pm), while 29 October & 26 November (3–5pm), she will run two drawing workshops especially for younger visitors (9-14yrs).

Pack nicotine alternatives

Smoking cessation isn’t a one-and-done thing; being out with friends—especially smokers—might exacerbate your cravings. Instead of giving in and asking for a smoke, tobacco-free alternatives can help tamp down those urges. Nicotine pouches are a great product for a night out. Most nicotine pouches come in cans, which allow users to experience nicotine satisfaction on the go. Another great option is nicotine patches, which have been around for decades as a quitting aid. Brands like Habitrol nicotine patches come with two or three-step programs over eight or twelve weeks, gradually lowering the nicotine dose after some time. all images ©
