On June 15th, the Fondation Beyeler (Basel, Switzerland) hosted a presentation of the Ukrainian project "In the Eye of the Storm. Modernism in Ukraine 1900-1930s", which is scheduled for autumn 2022 at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid, Spain.
"The recognition of Ukraine’s contribution to modernism is a cause close to the foundation’s heart [The Natalia Cola Foundation]. Being lifelong passionate supporters of the arts, we find it a great honour to play a small part in facilitating this exhibition and discourse," stated Natalia Cola, a founder of The Natalia Cola Foundation.
Natalia Cola is a philanthropist and patron of the arts. Her Foundation is one of the main partners of the Ukrainian project "In the Eye of the Storm. Modernism in Ukraine 1900-1930s". The Natalia Cola Foundation was founded in 2019 to support both institutions that value tradition and the new artists; embracing different ways of thinking and encouraging open discourse. Currently, it partners with The Serpentine Gallery and The Royal Academy. The Natalia Cola Foundation is a partner for Ukrainian project catalog publishing.
Natalia Cola was born and raised in Ukraine and received her Ph.D. from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. She later went on to study art history at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv) and at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Her main aim as a founder of The Natalia Cola Foundation is to assist contemporary artists while standing up for traditional cultural institutions.
Highlighting Ukrainian modernism
The Natalia Cola Foundation together with the co-organizers of the presentation, the "Art for Victory UA" charity foundation and M17 Contemporary Art Center (Kyiv), strive to establish the identity of Ukrainian modernism, which has long been overshadowed by Russian art trends.
As a patron and supporter of art, Natalia Cola has done a lot for the project "In the Eye of the Storm. Modernism in Ukraine 1900-1930s" by aiming at an in-depth study of twentieth-century Ukrainian art exhibited at international art institutions.
