It’s also a great place for families – and here’s why. Barnaby Crompton © Firstly, the most obvious reason is the direct access to the beach regardless of whether you choose a villa or an apartment. You’re never more than a five minute walk to the water. There are several areas that are good for kids - most notably the linear park between the shoreline apartments that has play areas, a great long pathway for riding scooters and also a running track. There are also cafes abutting the promenade. And don’t forget the Aquaventure Water Park. You can spend the day on the white knuckle water slides or even spend a very memorable time swimming with dolphins. It’s actually the world's largest waterpark and aquarium, with 65,000 marine creatures. Schooling isn’t on the Palm, although there are a few nurseries, including the Redwood Montessori Nursery. You do need to venture off Island for the secondary and further educational needs, but you don’t have to venture far. Dubai College is the closest secondary school, and it also just happens to be one of the highest regarded schools in the whole city. A little further afield (around five minutes, traffic permitting) you have Dubai American Academy and the American School of Dubai. So either on the Palm, or just off it, you are catered for Montessori, IB, US and British academic curriculums. Not a bad selection. There are seats of further education in Media City such as University of Wollongong, Middlesex University and Dubai Business School. The elevated monorail transports passengers from the multi-storey car park at the base of the trunk to the Atlantis water park with a stop at the Nakheel Mall. Cut and polished into a perfectly symmetrical pear combined with a rich vivid blue colour and flawless purity, this diamond is amongst the rarest to have been unearthed (estimate in the region of US$35 Million). Bleu Royal has remained part of an important private collection for the past 50 years. Here’s why: Firstly, the current world record for the most expensive fancy vivid blue diamond sold at auction is for a diamond that is smaller than the Bleu Royal - it’s the 14.52ct Oppenheimer Blue, which fetched a cool $57.5m in 2016. I 2023-24 Dubai racing season ©Dubai Racing On August 17, 2023 the full programme for the 2023-24 Dubai racing season at Meydan Racecourse has been released. Beginning on November 10th, 2023, and culminating on March 8th, 2024, the new-look season comprises 14 meetings and precedes the $30.5million Dubai World Cup meeting on March 30th. Dubai Racing Club has increased prize money by 27 per cent from the 2022-23 campaign, meaning that the minimum per race is AED165,000. The action ramps up on Festive Friday, December 22nd, when Meydan stages six Pattern races, including the G2 Maktoum Mile, now worth AED1million. One of the biggest meetings of the year in the Middle East is set to be Fashion Friday, on January 26th, which stages nine Pattern races. The featured G1 Maktoum Challenge, a notable prep race for the Dubai World Cup, carries an elevated purse of AED3.68million, while the G1 Jebel Hatta is worth AED1.85million. A popular social occasion, Super Saturday retains its usual slot on March 2nd and includes the G2 Al Maktoum Classic, upgraded G3 Ras Al Khor, and the Listed Jumeirah Guineas – won in 2023 by subsequent G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas heroine Mawj.
