  • Speake Marin expands its Openworked Sandblasted watch collection

I Speake Marin unveils new models in Openworked Sandblasted collection. The engraving on the barrel, clearly visible on the dial side at 5 o’clock, expresses the 8 fundamental values of Speake Marin: RESPECT, INDEPENDENCE, LIBERTE, UNIQUE, AUTHENTICITE, GENEVE, CREATIVITE, MODERNITE. Discover more below. Openworked Sandblasted – Speake Marin © Speake marin is an independent Swiss watch brand based in Geneva. Founded in 2002 by a British watchmaker and then acquired in 2012 by an ambitious and ardent entrepreneur, Mrs. Christelle Rosnoblet, currently CEO & President of Speake Marin. The brand is launching new collection on the 2oth October. In 2023, Speake Marin raises the question of harmony and balance. Revealing strong watch architecture, The One & Two collection anchor the Speake Marin contemporary style. The Piccadilly case reflects the iconic case of this collection. More than a luxury collection, the One&Two embodies elegance in creativity. The One & Two openworked Collection continues its journey with the Sandblasted Titanium and the Sandblasted Red Gold. In an ideal world where choices define our journey, Speake Marin invites you to explore its One & Two Openworked collection, a testament to craftsmanship and tradition. You will be transported along a path inspired by the great watchmakers, masters of time, for a unique escapade in La Chaux de Fonds, where the expression of art and craftsmanship blends with boundless human creative ambition. Each powerful and sublime interpretation by master watchmakers involves sharing and passing on our tradition and savoir-faire. This is why Speake Marin has chosen to highlight an outstanding decoration as a tribute to this artisanal know-how through the new Openworked Sandblast Speake Marin has imagined two new variations of the One & Two Openworked. While bearing a strong family resemblance, they embody two distinct personalities: the Openworked Sandblasted Titanium and Sandblasted Red Gold. The sandblasted grey dial, identical for both new models, endows each of them with a unique appearance thanks to the different light reflections on the red gold and titanium cases. The new Openworked Sandblasted timepieces are a clear expression of Speake Marin’s indepth expertise in the watchmaking art combined with its English roots: the emblematic Piccadilly case, a strong element at the origin of the brand and our latest in-house calibre could not be missing in this collection. With the Sandblasted Openworked watches, the iconic Piccadilly case, revamped by renowned designer Eric Giroud in 2017, is crafted in polished grade 5 titanium or 18k red gold. It is available in two sizes: 38 mm and 42 mm, with a thickness of 10.5 mm. The dial and the case back are protected by a sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. THE DIAL The sandblasting technique provides a grain finish that, while uniform in texture, appears rough and extremely elegant. The finishing of visible movement parts, the polished beveled profiles of bridges and apertures on the display highlight the decorative complexity executed by our skilled craftsmen. The matt black minute indications and the small seconds counter positioned at 1:30 are applied with an innovative 3D technique. To ensure optimal legibility and aesthetic harmony, the seconds hand and the heart-shaped central hour and minute hands are polished black on the titanium version while are goldcoated on the red gold variant. At the heart of the Sandblasted Titanium and Sandblasted Red Gold is the self-winding inhouse calibre SMA01. This movement with fully integrated micro-rotor, which allows for a reduced case thickness, was entirely designed and assembled by the well-known workshop “Le Cercle des Horlogers” in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Its 4hz frequency beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and the single barrel guarantees 52-hour power reserve. The new SMA01 calibre features exceptional watchmaking decorations visible through the sapphire crystal porthole. From the sandblasted bridges with polished chamfered profiles to the sunray and microbeaded finishes of the oscillating mass, embellished with the brand’s logo topping tool and secured by a bridge with vertical satin finish. Both components feature polished bevelled edges and are gold coated. The high level of attention paid to finishing and decoration also includes the Ø2 mm circular-graining motif on the back of the dial, the engraved values on the barrel, the polished screws, and more. All of these represent the Maison Speake Marin in the past, present and future of the brand. These words, meaningful and intense, are the very essence of our creations. Finally, the jewels add a touch of color to the calibre. The Sandblasted Titanium has a recommended retail price of CHF22,200 excl. taxes for the 38mm and CHF22,600 excl. taxes for the 42mm. The Sandblasted Red Gold has a recommended retail price of CHF 34,000 excl. taxes for the 38mm and CHF 38,700 excl. taxes for the 42mm. These designs adorned international models, including beloved Malaysian favourites, Tinie and Deedee Nash. The show reached its crescendo when world-renowned supermodel and culture icon Naomi Campbell graced the runway, donning a magnificent handmade gown adorned with thousands of glistening gemstones. Each piece exuded elegance, featuring beaded fabrics, graceful ostrich feathers, and dramatic chiffon drapes. Additionally, traditional Malaysian Songket weaving paid homage to the nation's rich heritage. Dubai Fashion Week (DFW), the region’s definitive fashion fixture co-founded by Dubai Design District (d3) and Arab fashion Council (AFC), concluded on Sunday after seven days and more than 25 shows from designers across the region, Europe, US, Central America and Asia. The refinement of capes, embroidered fabrics, oversized epaulettes adorned with sparkling stones, and see-through intricately pleated fabrics told a shared story. • The 8th World Investment Forum, organized the UN in Abu Dhabi, UAE

World Investment Forum 2023: Global Leaders Urge Action for Sustainable Development At the 8th World Investment Forum, the UN Secretary-General calls for action from public and private sectors to deliver $500 billion a year in affordable, long-term financing to developing countries. The 8th World Investment Forum, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), opened today in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, focusing on the investment challenges faced by the world's developing countries amid today's global crises. UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in a statement, urged participants—heads of state, business leaders, sustainable stock exchanges, sovereign wealth funds and experts— to put the SDG Stimulus Package into effect and work towards delivering $500 billion annual investment for developing countries. He also called on governments to establish a fair price on carbon and companies to implement credible net-zero plans, aligning with the recommendations of the High-Level Expert Group on the Net-Zero Emissions Commitments of Non-State Entities. With the theme "Investing in Sustainable Development," the forum strategically aligns with the upcoming global climate change talks at COP28. A dedicated track within the forum will focus on advancing climate finance and investment, providing a crucial platform for policymakers to find solutions and support global climate negotiations. The opening ceremony featured Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste and Nobel laureate, and President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé of Togo, setting the stage for the weeklong event. Global leaders tackle funding gap The Global Leaders Summit addressed the $4 trillion SDG investment gap, as only 15% of the SDGs are on target to be met by 2030, with the investment gap in the developing world growing from $2.5 trillion per year in 2015 to $4 trillion today. The Global Leaders Investment Summit revealed a staggering $6 trillion valuation for the sustainable finance market. However, Secretary-General Grynspan pointed out: "Not enough funds are going into new renewable energy plants, water and sanitation installations, agricultural projects, hospitals. And only 5% of all sustainable funds are located in developing countries. Funding exists, but allocation has been misguided." Leaders, including Germany’s Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, discussed ways to close the SDG investment gap, mobilize sustainable finance in global capital markets, ensure sustainability standards in sustainable finance and channel more funds to where they are needed most. The discussion emphasized the key need for international coordination given the scale of the investment needs and blended finance involving both public and private sectors including new actors such as sovereign wealth funds. The forum spotlighted critical sectors, such as the just energy transition and perspectives from countries like Indonesia, South Africa and Viet Nam. Urgent need to invest in agrifood sector On World Food Day, amid global supply chain disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine, UNCTAD and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) highlighted the critical role agrifood systems play in tackling global malnutrition, poverty, the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services, and climate change. FAO Director-General Dongyu Qu said transforming agrifood systems will cost $680 billion annually between now and 2030 in low and middle-income countries. Therefore, there is a critical need to attract efficient public and private sector investment in agrifood systems to reduce food insecurity and foster rural employment, particularly for women and young people. Channelling greater investment in sustainable finance in global capital markets to food production where it is needed most will require addressing the challenges of risk, institutional capacity, investment promotion and ease of doing business. UN Investment Promotion Awards 2023 celebrate success in climate action Ten investment promotion agencies and special economic zones received the Investment Promotion Awards 2023, with winners from Brazil, China, Egypt, France, India, Namibia, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates. This year’s awards spotlight the work of investment promotion agencies in attracting investment to accelerate the transition to clean, sustainable energy aimed at curbing climate change, while recognizing innovative approaches to investment promotion, finance and partnerships. While international investment in renewable energy has nearly tripled since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, much of the growth has been concentrated in developed countries. About UNCTAD UNCTAD is the UN trade and development body. It supports developing countries to access the benefits of a globalized economy more fairly and effectively and equips them to deal with the potential drawbacks of greater economic integration. It provides analysis, facilitates consensus-building and offers technical assistance to help developing countries use trade, investment, finance and technology as vehicles for inclusive and sustainable development. UNCTAD organizes the World Investment Forum with stakeholders and partners. ----------------------- Web: unctad.org Pack nicotine alternatives Smoking cessation isn’t a one-and-done thing; being out with friends—especially smokers—might exacerbate your cravings.
