  • Luxos-Invest GmbH bridges the gap between Osmium and the luxury market

Interview with: Kira Gräfin von Plettenberg, Management and Investor Relations; Sarah Völk, Managing Partner Luxos-Invest GmbH. For the past few years, osmium has been making waves in the precious metals market. It is considered an outlier from other precious metals and has shown strong performance even during the times of high volatility. www.luxos-invest.com The eighth and last of the precious metals has seen consistent growth in its daily spot prices. Decoupled from secondary markets, the value of osmium is not influenced by the behaviour of other precious metals. As a result, osmium is eyed by many as a gainful addition to any portfolio. In the past, when the price of gold has stagnated, osmium has become more valuable. Osmium cannot be banned as a money substitute metal like gold. As the world's only unforgeable metal, it also has an advantage over silver, which is found in growing quantities to contain the carcinogenic metal cadmium. During its initial five years on the market, osmium faced broad scepticism and saw investments only from a small number of well-informed professionals. As is common with most emerging markets, companies and high net-worth individuals observed osmium’s performance carefully and patiently before finally making a move themselves. Now, this new precious metal has arrived on the world stage. Only small quantities of osmium can be mined and separated from platinum each year. Today, the total volume of the osmium market is estimated to be 200 billion euros, causing many to look more closely at osmium as a tangible precious metal investment. Three years ago, Sarah Völk and Kira von Plettenberg sensed this growing trend and began preparing for 2022. The year would coincide osmium’s launch on international markets across five continents. An unprecedented run for osmium is beginning, and the metal is now stepping out of obscurity into the glittering world of high society. This is where it will certainly find its home, for in beauty, glitz, and glamour, osmium cannot be surpassed. Investors have understood that osmium is not simply beautiful but represents the tangible investment opportunity par excellence. Kira Gräfin von Plettenberg studied her double master's degree in Business Administration and Management in extraordinary places like Indonesia and Portugal. After her professional work as an Impact Investor at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ GmbH), she moved back to her home country in Bavaria to use her professional and international experience in the investment industry at Luxos-Invest. As a contact person for clients and partners, she is mainly active in the field of private investment, family offices, banks, and governments at Luxos-Invest GmbH. She presents osmium as a value-based real investment and long-term hold. Through her connections, Kira von Plettenberg covers an elite clientele seeking innovative spirit. Thus, the scientific presentation of the osmium institutes is perfectly complemented by Luxos’ information and advice. Both women have a shared ambition and shared vision to present individuals, institutions, and governments with a niche product. To this end, it was necessary to connect with Ingo Wolf, who has been instrumental in guiding the osmium institutes towards a high degree of success. A serial entrepreneur, his resumé boasts an impressive series of inventions and technical innovations, from patents on ip-TV broadcasting networks to the operation of a company building electric convertibles, to the development of exploration fields of gold and antimony. One of the only things he lacked was a connection to the rich and beautiful. Now, however, with the burgeoning interest generated by the rocket-like rise of osmium, a link was sought in the glittering world for which osmium is virtually predestined. The partnership between Sarah Völk and Ingo Wolf represents a dynamic duo in the tangible asset market. Völk, an early adopter in the precious metals market with rich experience in the jewelry segment, compliments the expertise of Wolf, the scientific director of the German Osmium Institute. Together they convey the spark and sparkle of Osmium. A Swiss crystallization laboratory and Ingo Wolf take osmium through its journey to the tangible asset market using a host of scientific processes that crude osmium must undergo to go from a toxic sponge to the most beautiful element in the world. Since gold and silver are increasingly counterfeited and since the markets for diamonds and pearls have plummeted in the wake of geometrically perfect and inexpensive artificial diamonds, osmium appears to be the strongest link in the precious metal chain. This reliability is further exaggerated by the pressure put on gold markets by the recent regulations stipulated by the Basel III accords. Raw osmium is toxic in its natural form, and just as a puffer fish should only be prepared by special chefs, osmium must be purified and prepared to safely begin crystallization. The daily harvest rate determines which crystals meet the conditions of the jewelry and tangible asset industries. Only pieces that achieve a perfect degree of crystallization are then distributed to the watch and jewelry market. The metal, with its high value density, is easy and safe to transport. As a precious metal, it does not oxidize and is forever durable. A genuine, tangible asset metal must not be counterfeitable, and Osmium meets this criterion perfectly. This is because every piece of osmium is 3D-imaged down to the nanometer in the osmium institutes with high fidelity Keyence microscopes. The metal with the highest density of all elements cannot be counterfeited with a metal of the same weight. As cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens, and hot-for-a-day stocks begin to fall out of the investor spotlight, the last precious metal steps up to take the place as the next best opportunity. The evolution of osmium from a small German market to a worldwide phenomenon has been rapid. Following increased demand in neighbouring countries Austria and Switzerland, the market for osmium then developed in countries like Australia, Canada, the USA, the UAE, and China. Whereas the early order sizes ranged from hundreds to thousands of Euros, orders are today being filled to the tune of millions of euros worth of crystalline osmium, enough for a state reserve to secure a large fortune. It helps, too, that the amount of osmium required to fill these demands fits comfortably into a small space the size of a briefcase. For the past three years, Wolf has also been leading the annual symposia all over the world and training new country partners with his team, who have established institutes on all five continents. It all started small with the Osmium World Database, which is now available to customs authorities in the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia.

  • Gstaad Palace reopens for its 110th winter season

On 20th December 2022, the Gstaad Palace opened its doors for its 110th winter season. The team around General Manager and owner Andrea Scherz has put together a packed programme of events running through to 12th March 2023. Substantial investments have been made in the hotel’s wellness area, while staff accommodation and other behind-the-scenes facilities have also undergone extensive refurbishment. The 'Salle Bridge' has been converted into a sophisticated location for meetings and events, while several guest rooms have also been restyled. Mountain view deluxe junior suite. All images courtesy of Gstaad Palace. Snow-covered mountains, homely chalets, wintry forests, and towering in the midst of it all, the Gstaad Palace in matching white – it's a sight that has lost none of its charm throughout the past 110 years. Inside, the scent of Christmas biscuits and seasonal music float in the air, as children's eyes light up at the sight of the elaborately decorated Christmas tree and generations gather around the open fireplace. It may sound like a fairy tale, but it is as real as ever. The Gstaad Palace has been opening its doors to guests since 1913 and, once again, is rolling out a wintry wonderland for young and old alike. Continuous investment The Gstaad Palace is in family hands. The region’s leading establishment engages in a continuous process of innovation, most recently with a substantial investment in the wellness area. Newly opened for this winter season, the outdoor jacuzzi of the Palace Spa has now doubled in size, measuring 13 x 5 metres. Extensive changes have also been made to the 'Salle Bridge'. Formerly the setting for card games, horse race betting and similar pastimes, the room has now been adapted to host small conferences and celebrations. The Lobby At accommodation level, one Deluxe and two Superior rooms have been fully renovated. "The Gstaad Palace isn't idle during the low season," explains Andrea Scherz, General Manager and third generation owner of the Gstaad Palace. "On the contrary, we are continuously redesigning our facilities in accordance with the requirements of our international guests. Following the coronavirus pandemic, which can hopefully be consigned to history, visitors are now returning from all corners of the world. Booking levels are high for this winter and we're looking forward to a joyous and peaceful festive period and a winter season that looks to be as lively as ever," Andrea Scherz enthuses. High staff welfare In the Gstaad Palace staff building, the new 'Marmite Lounge' is now open. It is a welcoming and homely place where employees can meet and engage with each other during break time and after work. "It's important to us that our crew is happy and feels appreciated in their role within this establishment," adds Andrea Scherz. For this reason, investments in guest accommodation have gone hand in hand with refurbishing staff bedrooms, which now offer substantially higher comfort levels. New hardware and IT systems have also been put in place, to streamline and facilitate routine tasks. Tower Junior Suite. All images Stefano Scata. La Dolce Vita in all its variations The culinary programme for the winter season is dedicated to delicate flavours and delightful indulgence. To set the tone, Culinary Director Franz W. Faeh and his 55-strong crew will be going all out with a five-course festive menu at Christmas. In line with the motto 'La Dolce Vita', the seasonal celebrations will culminate in the grand New Year's Eve party held in the 'Salle Baccarat' and throughout the hotel. A floor below, hearty classic Swiss dishes in the form of fondue and raclette are served in the intentionally low-key 'La Fromagerie', housed in rooms that once served as a Second World War gold bunker for a Swiss bank. Guest chef Ravi Bajaj will also be present this season. A star chef in England and an esteemed friend of the house, he will be delighting guests with his Indian cuisine. GreenGo celebrates the big 50 (+2) Last but not least, 'GreenGo', the original Gstaad nightclub opened in 1971, will finally be celebrating its 50th anniversary – and it will be doing it in style. An entire series of parties are planned, and on 7 January 2023 the club will play host to a big international act, to be announced on Instagram over the coming weeks. All we will say for now is: Don't forget your dancing shoes. And there's more news from the club. Jasmine Wheatcroft, artist and Gstaad resident, is revamping the graffiti wall with a hyper-realistic collage. Street art is giving way to portraits of the stars and starlets that party at the GreenGo. Modern art amid breathtaking scenery In collaboration with long-standing partner Hauser & Wirth, the Gstaad Palace is pleased to present an installation in the Palace garden. Two large bronze sculptures by William Kentridge, 'Her' (2021) and 'Cape Silver' (2018) will be set against the imposing mountain backdrop. Further works by the leading contemporary artist from South Africa will also be on show at 'Tarmak22' at Gstaad-Saanen Airport from 17 December 2022. Next generation gathers at Sammy’s Winter Kids Club Sammy, once the Palace family's much-loved pet, lives on as the mascot of the children's entertainment programme at the Gstaad Palace. From film nights and story time through to Christmas baking sessions, there's plenty in store for the kids. Further opportunities to be among themselves and enjoy a magical time include the kids-only Christmas, pyjama and New Year parties. Outside, the Palace garden awaits with animal encounter events such as pony riding and a meeting with the St. Bernard dogs, as they visit from their high-altitude home on the eponymous mountain pass. "The Palace is all about family traditions. 'We are family' isn't just an advertising slogan for us, but a way of life. So it's a joy and a pleasure to open our doors to the next generation of Palace guests," says Andrea Scherz. Gstaad palace is partner hotel. After intense rain all morning, the teams finally played in the dry, under a radiant sun even, and in the dream setting of the Gstaad mountains on a field in excellent condition. Two intense and competitive games and for a good reason: it was the semi-finals of the Hublot Polo Gold Cup. In the end, the two winners of Thursday’s games came out on top once again and will face each other in Sunday’s final: Clinique La Prairie and Kielder Agro Uruguay. The first semi-final between Hublot and Clinique La Prairie was easily won by the team in white judging by the score and yet according to Raul Laplacette: “No, no, we started a little worried after the others scored the first goal. We really had to make an effort to come back. Hublot is a strong team and you never know what can happen on the field. Here, because it’s smaller, you have to hit the ball hard and put pressure on the other team because it’s difficult to turn the game around just by dribbling.” Author of 3 goals, the Argentinian with the blue visorless helmet – “to see better” – moved easily on the field giving the impression of being in several places at once sending balls to his teammate Facundo Kelly, author of 4 goals. “It is thanks to the very fast horses that I can be everywhere. Apart from Lucas Labat, who came with his strong string, our team is mounted with the horses of Polo Park Zurich of Sebastien Le Page. They come from Martin Podesta, so they are very good and that will be our strength for the final.“A final in which they will face the second winning team of the day, Kielder Agro. A victory also obvious on paper, but less so on the field, especially since the number 2 of the green team, the talented Bautista Beguerie, injured his hand and had to be replaced in the second chukker by Fabio Bolantero, h4. However, this did not disturb the team, especially one of the two captains, Luca Meier, author of 4 goals. Their confident leader, Ezequiel Martinez-Ferrario (h7), therefore took control of this game from the beginning. “Tomorrow“, warns the Argentine, “we will have to remain vigilant. Clinique La Prairie is a good team with very good horses and it will definitely be a tough and beautiful final.” After that, Ezequiel “Gallego” Martinez will be back to his country with a big goal in mind: the qualifying tournament for the Argentine Open, the pinnacle of the polo world. Yet another proof that the players who play in Gstaad are some of the world’s best.Tomorrow, these two teams will face each other in the final at 3 pm after the “small final” at 1:30 pm. The visitors, already numerous today, will be able to enjoy the village with exhibitors, food trucks and activities for children from 11 am. Giving children and young people a future.Leading center for children with burn injuries. Severe burns in particular often require transplantation. The researchers at the Zurich Children's Hospital have come up with an innovation that saves the lives of children and young people. The professionals produce replacement skin from the patient's own cells in the laboratory. This artificially grown skin is then transplanted onto the wound by surgeons. Clinical studies show that the transplanted replacement skin fits into the body with little or no scarring and then even grows with it. This reduces future follow-up treatments, especially for children who are still developing. People help make life-saving research possible The research at the children's hospital contributes to the fact that children all over the world after severe burns have the prospect of a better quality of life. • A royal necklace is hitting headlines and evoking memories of Princess Diana

In the week a royal necklace is hitting headlines and evoking memories of Princess Diana in many hearts, this is because a special lot at the auction of the Attallah Cross pendant which was last seen when it was worn by Diana in 1987. The auction opens on Fri 6 Jan at Sotheby's at 2pm UK time and goes till Wed 18 Jan at 4.30pm. Garrard Amethyst and diamond pendant, circa 1920. Image courtesy of Sotheby's 77 Diamonds, Europe's largest online diamond jeweller, offers expert comment on this story. 77 Diamonds managing director Tobias Kormind says: "In the week another royal necklace is hitting headlines and evoking memories of Diana in many hearts, this regal amethyst and diamond cross pendant last worn in 1987 by Diana, Princess of Wales, at the peak of her beauty as she embraced a bolder, more confident style, could attract a flurry of interest given its accessible price point relative to other royal jewels with illustrious history. The piece has limited instrinsic value because amethysts are not the most precious of gemstones, and at 77 Diamonds we would charge under £7,000 to remake something in a similar style to this pendant. I attribute the very high estimate from Sotheby's to the simple fact that it is a Gerrard jewel from the 1920's which was worn by Princess Diana and so few pieces of jewellery worn by Princess Diana to have ever come up at auction. Given how topical the royals are at the moment, the auction house could succeed in capturing the zeitgeist around Princess Diana's legacy. Jewellery with illustrious royal associations has a history of attracting high prices at auction. In November 2021, a pair of diamond bracelets hidden by French Queen Marie Antoinette to keep them safe during the French Revolution, sold at Christie’s Geneva for £7.04m, soaring past the pre-sale estimate." Tobias Kormind, managing director, 77 Diamonds Formerly in the Collection of the late Naim Attallah, CBE, the Garrard's amethyst and diamond pendant, is dated to circa 1920 is so-called the Fleurée cross set with square-cut amethyst and accented by circular-cut diamonds. Accompanied by a document from Garrard. During the late 80s Diana, Princess of Wales, became known for bolder fashion choices reflecting how she had begun to take autonomy in her life. It was during this period, in 1987 that Garrard lent her this distinct and eye catching early 20th century amethyst and diamond cross to pair with an exquisite baroque style purple and black velvet Catherine Walker & Co dress, for a function held at the jewellers in support of Birthright, a charity which strives to protect human rights during pregnancy and childbirth. Her newfound style was a bold departure from her previous more romantic fashion choices. The Chelsea-based bespoke atelier, Catherine Walker & Co was beloved by Diana and remains popular amongst other members of the Royal Family. When working with Diana, Princess of Wales, they aspired to design to clothes that did not outdo Diana, rather they are “suitable for the role they are playing and… match up to the power they have”, according to Said Cyrus, one of the founders of Catherine Walker & Co. Diana’s relationship with Garrard was long-standing, having selected her infamous sapphire and diamond engagement ring from the then Royal Jeweller in 1981. Over the years, she would go on to collaborate with Garrard, borrowing her favourite amethyst and diamond cross on many more occasions, as recalled by Ramsay Attallah, whose father, Naim Attallah, CBE (1931-2021) was joint managing director and eventually group chief executive of Asprey & Garrard. It was under his patronage that Garrard saw continued growth and success, remaining crown jewellers until 2007. As good friends of the Princess, Attallah acquired the cross shortly after her death and it has remained with the family, unworn, ever since. Sotheby’s is proud to present this incredibly rare piece of royal history in the Royal and Noble sale. Read more about 77 Diamonds here.

  • ETIHAD Airways obtains two SUSTAINABILITY Awards

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has won “Environmental Sustainability Innovation of the Year” award at CAPA’s annual Environmental Sustainability Awards for Excellence in Singapore, as well as “Best Airline for Sustainability 2022” award by Business Traveler USA. Etihad’s sustainability initiatives began with a focus on creating operational efficiencies. The airline quickly went on to unite industry leaders and build a comprehensive, cross organisational aviation sustainability programme that supports decarbonisation, biodiversity protection and waste management. Etihad’s flagship sustainability initiatives include the Greenliner programme using the airline’s fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners as flying test-beds, and the Sustainable50 A350-1000 launched earlier this year focusing on Airbus and Rolls Royce. In tandem, Etihad is partnering with a range of organisations to reduce its CO2 emissions, the latest being with World Energy and SATAVIA to help make the “Book and Claim” system for off-sets a reality. Mariam Al Qubaisi, Head of Sustainability and Excellence, Etihad Airways, said: “2022 has been an important year for us with many milestones and achievements we are proud of. These two awards from CAPA Aviation and Business Traveler USA cap off a year where we were also named Environmental Airline of the Year 2022 by Airline Ratings. We enter into 2023 with a continued commitment to collaborating with our partners to support the industry in its mission to achieve net zero by 2050.” Marco Navarria, Content and Marketing Director, said: “The CAPA Aviation Sustainability Awards for Excellence uses a range of independent data and analysis to recognise those airlines and partners in the travel chain who have demonstrated clear leadership, innovation and commitment to sustainability initiatives. These winners are helping to generate the positive momentum that is needed to drive the whole industry forward towards its environmental goals.” The CAPA/Envest Airline Sustainability Rating system rates and ranks each airline’s sustainability performance relative to other airlines. The airline also won the Best Airline for Sustainability 2022 presented by Business Traveler USA. The prestigious publication created this new category to recognize the impressive efforts made by the airline industry to reduce emissions. In 2021, Etihad Airways launched the first consumer-focused ‘green’ loyalty and rewards programmes to incentivise more environmentally friendly choices among its passengers. The carrier’s ‘Conscious Choices’ programme offers loyalty points for passengers opting to offset the emissions from their travel and carry less baggage onboard. A corporate-focused programme, ‘Corporate Conscious Choices’, was added to facilitate corporate partner sustainability goals, offering purchase options for SAF, carbon offsets and a ‘green’ surcharge. In the air, Etihad Airways has one of the most modern and efficient fleets in the world. With the airline having an average fleet age of just 5.8 years, nearly 60% of its aircraft are represented by new generation widebodies. In addition to the airline’s comprehensive testing and innovation programme, Etihad became the first airline to secure commercial finance based on verified compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN SDGs). Most recently, the Etihad Mangroves Forest project was launched with plans to establish carbon-absorbing forests in countries where the airline operates, beginning with a forest in the airline’s home, Abu Dhabi.

  • Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama

Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama unveil Mens and Womens Ready to Wear, bags, shoes and accessories Maison LOUIS VUITTON unveils the continuation of the collaboration with YAYOI KUSAMA. The Japanese avant-garde artist is known worldwide for her hypnotic and colorful art. True to her signature, which she has preserved over the years, she uses her motifs in endless succession and in this way conquers the entire space. LOUIS VUITTON last met the magical art of YAYOI KUSAMA in 2012. But this relationship never ended - ten years later the sequel followed. A first glimpse of the collaboration between LOUIS VUITTON and YAYOI KUSAMA was given in May 2022 in San Diego during the LOUIS VUITTON Cruise 2023 show. In line with LOUIS VUITTON's artistic collaborations, the encounter between the Maison and YAYOI KUSAMA is based on openness, iconoclasm and, above all, on a mutual appreciation of craftsmanship and excellence over the everyday. The collaboration, which embraces both the women's and men's worlds in the form of ready-to-wear, bags, shoes, accessories, luggage, suitcases and fragrances, is divided into two drops with different thematic directions, all following the iconic ones Motifs by YAYOI KUSAMA. The motif of the PAINTED DOTS is the origin of this project. The Dots are a direct translation of YAYOI KUSAMA's artistic signature through an intricate technique of screen printing and embossing onto leather or iconic coated canvas. The METAL DOTS collection is an expression of infinity, inspired by YAYOI KUSAMA's reflecting spheres - a motif known from her daffodil garden shown (unofficially) at the 33rd Venice Biennale in 1966. The PAINTED DOTS later transform into the better-known INFINITY DOTS. It is the artist's most popular motif and as a collection, one that includes the most pieces across all product categories for both women and men, appearing in both Drop 1 and Drop 2. Another of Kusama's passions is flowers; the fleeting beauty of the ephemeral is contrasted with the sense of the eternal and infinite. The collaboration between LOUIS VUITTON and YAYOI KUSAMA is celebrated in a fully immersive visual landscape ranging from window displays to pop-ups to animated billboards, AR experiences, an XR game and a proprietary advertising campaign. LOUIS VUITTON x YAYOI KUSAMA Drop 1 will be launched worldwide on January 6th. All images courtesy of www.louisvuitton.com

  • Prada Eternal Gold debuts a truly sustainable fine jewelry collection

Prada successfully launched the line of unique jewelry made of recycled gold, showing consistency in sustainable development and supporting environmental sustainability Prada Fine Jewelry Campaign featuring Somi Jeon Photo by David Sims By Anna Grigoryeva Italian brand Prada presented its first-ever line of premium jewelry “Eternal Gold”. Fine jewelry is entirely made of certified recycled gold, which is an absolute novelty for the world's premium segment. This is the first collection of jewelry made of recycled gold presented by a global luxury brand. The "Eternal Gold" line consists of 48 pieces, which were developed by a team of jewelers under the guidance of Timothy Iwata, former director of global innovation at Cartier. Miuccia Prada herself also provided creative supervision. It's the first jewelry line of its kind, marking the brand's eco-focus. It took 14 months to develop the collection. It includes unisex pieces in a minimalist but bold aesthetic, typical of Prada. Prada cooperates exclusively with precious metal and stone suppliers that meet the highest industry standards in terms of human rights, labor safety, environmental impact and business ethics. Recycled gold for Prada is extracted only from suitable recycled sources, which include industrial gold, electronic components and valuable second-hand metals. All stages and achievements of the chain of responsible production of used gold and diamonds are verifiable and traceable through the platform. In his debut collection, Iwata drew on Prada's stylistic heritage, combining tradition and innovation. At the heart of the collection is an interpretation of the signature triangular image with the Prada logo engraved on it. For example, the clasps on the earrings and the necklaces have a triangle shape, rounded corners are protruding and the heart-shaped bottom of the pendant and the main element on the bracelet stand out thanks to the volume facets. The collection also features timeless jewelry symbols such as a snake and a heart. The brand successfully presented an advertising campaign "Eternal Gold" authored by famous British photographer David Sims, who shot models Amanda Gorman, Somi Chon and Maya Hawke in gold necklaces, bracelets, earrings and pendants. Every material is traceable through a chip registered on the Aura Blockchain Consortium – a platform initially founded by LVMH, Prada Group and Richemont to increase transparency in the industry.
