For more information, please visit: www.fdci.org ©ARR Under a sculptural tent fashioned in the grounds of the École Militaire in Paris, the silhouettes in the Givenchy Spring-Summer 2024 women’s collection present the vision of contemporary elegance of Artistic Director Matthew M. Williams. Inspired by a chrysalis, the immaculate work designed by Gabriel Calatrava created an intimate space where draping, hand-painted flowers, lace and pearls all bloomed. Throughout the collection, the silhouettes oscillate between structure and ease, black monochromes and gracious pastels, thick and diaphanous fabrics. Gentleman’s tailoring is set off by the delicacy of the skin. Plays of layered transparency are sprinkled throughout the collection as gloves highlight the curves of the arms, and pointed pumps are encased in translucent stockings. Lace volants reveal the beauty of a neckline. Day appropriates evening codes in draping re-energized by flou techniques. Overlays are spliced in chiffon, taffeta, organza or mud silk, a technique for dying silk from river mud inherited from the Ming Dynasty, creating a leathery effect. Matthew M. Williams shares Hubert de Givenchy’s passion for flowers, which embellish leather and materialize in rose formations, almond green prints or on the bustier of a spring evening gown. Symbols of the ephemeral, hand-painted flowers, including irises, seem to leave their imprint on the skin. Jewels transform the clothing, covering the body in latticed pearl and crystal. Chokers, hoop earrings and rings celebrate the perfect sphere of the pearl, imagining new ways to wear the jewelry. • Givenchy Spring-Summer RTW 2024 collection

An ode to translucent elegance for Givenchy Spring-Summer 2024 collection FASHION & LEATHER GOODS · OCTOBER 2, 2023 ©ARR Under a sculptural tent fashioned in the grounds of the École Militaire in Paris, the silhouettes in the Givenchy Spring-Summer 2024 women’s collection present the vision of contemporary elegance of Artistic Director Matthew M. Mules play with ruching, while the signature Shark Lock boot is reinterpreted in an open-toe version. The Voyou line introduces sliding chain straps, and a new trapezoid flap bag is framed by imposing chunky buckles. • The HOLY TRINITY Cathedral in Addis Ababa: An appeal

His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias Sahle-Selassie, together with the North American Supporters of the Renovation and Development Committee of Holy Trinity Cathedral, invites you to help him raise funds for the restoration of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Menbere Tsebaot (“Altar of Victory”) Cathedral – more commonly known as Holy Trinity Cathedral – is now eighty years old and in serious need of renovation. Built by His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie to serve as the Orthodox metropolitan Cathedral of the City of Addis Ababa, it serves as a monument to those who gave their lives to preserve Ethiopia’s sovereignty during the Fascist occupation, and beyond. It is the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie I, his wife Empress Menen, many other members of the Ethiopian Imperial family, three patriarchs of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, and numerous patriot leaders of the occupation era, as well as other prominent members of Ethiopian civil and military society. The Cathedral is where Patriarchs of the Orthodox Church are enthroned, and where Bishops are consecrated. The Cathedral is notable not only as a major religious institution, but is a national institution, and a historic, cultural, and architectural landmark. Its preservation is of great importance to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the City of Addis Ababa, and the Ethiopian nation. The Cathedral administration has organized a Renovation and Development Committee and begun much-needed repairs. Over the past eight decades, extensive structural damage, water damage, and damage to the murals and stained-glass windows have been sustained; there is a need to replace the electrical system; and a need to renovate the crypt under the church where the tombs of the Imperial family are located. The renovation work is already underway at the hands of one of the most reputable construction firms in Ethiopia. However, it is not fully funded, and the Cathedral has launched a major fundraising campaign to meet the shortfall. Cathedral hierarchy and the Renovation and Development Committee have appointed His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias to serve as an official ambassador in this fundraising effort. Every dollar you donate will go towards the Cathedral's renovation campaign and help to preserve the age-old bonds between the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Crown. We are members of the International Society of the Order of the Star of Ethiopia, and are organizing this fundraiser at the request of Prince Ermias, the Patron of the Society and President of the Ethiopian Crown Council. The Society is a 501(c)3 registered in Alexandria, Virginia. Your donations will be tax-deductible. All proceeds from this campaign will go directly from the Society to the Cathedral renovation committee. https://www.gofundme.com/f/gwbfwk-crown-council-holy-trinity-cathedral-renovation For online bank transfer: TD Bank NA, Cherry Hill, New Jersey 08002, USA Account name: The International Society for the Star of Ethiopia Account number: 4443131927 Routing number: 0670-14822 SWIFT Code: NRTHUS33XXX Pack nicotine alternatives Smoking cessation isn’t a one-and-done thing; being out with friends—especially smokers—might exacerbate your cravings. • Schiaparelli RTW S/S 2024

Daniel Roseberry, as Artistic Director at Maison Schiaparelli, masters the surrealist expression that the founder proposed almost 100 years ago when the Maison was founded in Paris. By Nermin A. The dramatic Fall 2023 couture look with its dreamy puffed silhouette was narrowed to small-waisted suits and elegant dresses for the Spring RTW collection just presented in the Maison's intimate salons at 21 Place Vendôme. But there is a twist to the Parisian elegance that the collection narrates, with the brand's first sneakers introduced on the runway. Sportwear seems appropriate now for a brand that is worn by some of the world's biggest and youngest artists at the world's greatest stages. Most of the American celebrities who wear Schiaparelli are well below their 30s, and their lifestyle does not require that many day suits yet. © Schiaparelli Roseberry's touch of American old glamour in this collection will undoubtedly appeal to his many American clients, including front-row seated actress Regina King and beauty mogul Kylie Jenner, whose sister Roseberry sends on a catwalk in a glamorous 60s-inspired look and a shoulderless, bright red dress. Can Schiaparelli mix sportswear with Parisian chic and the surreal, disruptive approach to fashion that the brand is renown for? Can jumbo keyhole dresses, cut like shoulderless boleros, featuring gold embellishment and other freaky accessories and finishes, be paired with golden-capped baseball trainers (welded with the outline of toes and nails included)? Elsa in her time could succeed with the iconic lobster dress; and clearly the brand can today build on this success and much more. The times are today arguably more surreal, and we live in a surreal border between the physical and digital worlds than when the brand was founded a century ago. I believe that Schiaparelli takes all these facts and adapts them to their vision of the contemporary surreal lifestyle, where chic and leisure merge and the seemingly opposite unites. Shalom Harlow went pantless in a strong-shouldered black jacket and a “Pulp Fiction” wig, while Kendall Jenner, her hair teased into a major bouffant, was molded into a bustier dress covered in red fake nails.. The Fall 2023 couture show’s grandiosity is not just felt in the venue but in the exaggerated executed coats, collars, and humor, but in a good way. Clearly, the designer had a lot of fun creating this collection, as did models wearing it, unable to hide a smile as they walked calmly down the catwalk. A collection largely kept in black and white adorned with golden details seems more mature than ever, yet don’t expect to find nun-like discipline in cuts like the couture style that Elsa Schiaparelli’s contemporary Coco Chanel was famous for. © Schiaparelli.com. Roseberry's approach is the opposite, exploring the concepts of fluidity and movement. Made for a woman who lives passionately and wears her heart on her sleeve, as symbolically depicted by the indigo painted model, where an asymmetrical indigo blue skirt is the only garment on the model, as a big heart-shaped leaf barely covers the indigo painted breast, it reminds me of a look from the fall 2022 couture, where the model's breast is adorned with a finely crafted red lacquered anatomical heart pendant with rhinestones, held by a thin necklace, Schiaparelli.com.
