For Flexjet captain Daniel Deistler from Germany, it will be a debut in the Engadine valley. He is teaming up with the seasoned top players Patrick Maleitzke (GER) and Clemente Delfosse (FRA). For Eduardo Greghi (SUI/BRA), it will also be a first in St. Moritz, as for his team, The Kusnacht Practice. • Abu Dhabi Art Fair: Swiss Watch Brand Unveiled

Neo-Swiss luxury jewelry and watch atelier exclusively debuts at Abu Dhabi Art Fair Fueled by obsessive creativity and a passion for craftsmanship in all its facets, the newly founded Charles Zuber is revealing today its first high jewelry line POMANDER and luxury watch collection PERFOS. These two major collections are unveiled at Abu Dhabi Art Fair as the Founder’s Edition, inspired by the legacy of the founder. The spirit of Charles Zuber, master Swiss jeweller will be rekindled through an immersive experience at Abu Dhabi Art Week on November 17th. PERFOS 39mm baguette cut diamond bezel The PERFOS watch, designed by Eric Giroud. Underneath its apparent simplicity, the Perfos is in fact very complex. With understated elegance, Perfos asserts the fundamentals of traditional watchmaking whilst adding a contemporary touch. Designed by the famous Swiss designer Eric Giroud, the Perfos watch epitomizes the guiding values of Charles Zuber. It bears an extremely complex dial, with a luminous harmony radiating from the rays of a stylized sun, which is a challenge of craftsmanship and engineering. The meticulous workmanship “chocolate tablet” design bracelet, culminating in the brushed satin finish, is only achievable by hand. Powering Perfos, we have the Caliber 01, an exclusive micro-rotor form movement, perfectly matching the case interior. Among the subtleties of Perfos, the sophistication of its dial is one of the most distinctive – and uncompromising – expressions of elegance. Whether on a black background with gray rhodium-plated indexes, or on a white background with ebony indexes like piano keys, the extreme precision it takes to create each triangular groove from a mother blank, a first dial base upon which a second plate, delicately openworked by laser, is then placed. Each opening coincides perfectly with each of the sixty indexes. How the infinitely small can reveal absolute mastery built on decades of practice! The dial is galvanized, a technique that relies on a pertinent choice of steel. The action of coating the metal with a layer of zinc protects it from corrosion whilst creating an iconic effect with flamboyant tones. Charles Zuber is about refusing to compromise, through the design of a form movement caliber that hugs the rounded corners of the square case. Automatically wound with a bidirectional oscillating weight - micro rotor, this three-hand caliber with 164 components and 33 jewels lends itself to future developments and the addition of complications. Decorated and rhodium-plated according to the purest practices of a watchmaking industry proud of its fundamentals, its blued screws as well as other selected details underline the sunray patterns worked on its surfaces that are not visible to the eye. Collection: Perfos Reference: 3901011 Case shape: Octagonal Movement: Caliber 01, mechanical with automatic winding Frequency: 28,800 vibrations per hour Functions: Hours, minutes, seconds Power reserve: 38 hours Case: Steel Bracelet: Steel Buckle: Folding clasp Dial: Galvanic and mirror polished indexes Size: 39 x 39 mm Thickness: 9 mm Water resistance: 30 m Discover the High Jewellery collection Charles Zuber’s haute jewelry is enriched by a fine collection that takes the ancient aesthetic codes of the pomander and reinterprets them with a resolutely contemporary visual and textural language. The pomander fuses the mastery of jewelry techniques with evocative stones in a culmination of beautiful and unique designs. With its iconic ogive shape, delicately held by a protective mesh of threads so fine they seem to disappear, Pomander brings together the rarest materials, like angel’s hair crystal with its threads of finest red-gold rutiles that shimmer with an ethereal quality. Charles Zuber explores an infinite spectrum of variations of Pomander: rings, necklaces, earrings, studs, and studded cuffs. The name Pomander came naturally – in it everything this object inspires is encompassed. With its iconic roudly tapered end, delicately held by a protective mesh of threads so fine they seem to disappear, Pomander sets the light free to play off its precious and semi-precious stones. As they explore the infinite possibilities for jewelry creation, the Charles Zuber atelier applied the art of spider setting to the best practices of high jewelry, eschewing any form of bonding. Thus, a precious metal claw discreetly surrounds the polished surfaces, bringing out the distinctive shape and depth of this generous dome cut from lavender or black jade, violet amethyst, or from turquoise with lagoon reflections. The innovation of the Pomander collection lies in the use of rutilated quartz, also called angel’s hair crystal, a rare material in haute Jewellery. True to the bold spirit of the designer Charles Zuber, the brand rose to the challenge, capturing the stone’s fascinating aesthetic and almost organic texture. Long considered a worthless mineral, rutilated quartz is like a diamond in the rough. Indeed, towards the middle of the 20th century, designers and collectors began to appreciate the ethereal beauty of rutilated quartz, so named because of the inclusions that take on reddish and golden tones (hence ‘rutile’); because they evoke shimmering strands of golden hair, this stone is often referred to as angel’s hair quartz. Symbolically, angel’s hair quartz is connected to the higher realms. It is said to be a stone of celestial power, uplifting and illuminating for the soul, amplifying intention and enhancing intuition. Pomander is for the elegant and subtle woman of today. Inspired by ancient jewelry, it links past and present, a value dear to Charles Zuber. It's a collection promising an infinite number of possibilities: rings, necklaces, earrings, studs, studded cuffs... Under the creative direction of Vincent Perego, Charles Zuber gives shape to this ancient talisman-like object filled with symbolism and emotion. Pomander brings together the rarest materials, like angel’s hair crystal with its threads of finest red-gold rutiles that shimmer with an ethereal quality. The spider setting technique permits the use of precious metal to secure the ogive gemstone carved from lavender or black jade, purple or green amethyst, or lagoon turquoise. Held by a protective mesh of threads so fine they seem to disappear, Pomander sets the light free to play off its precious and semi-precious stones.

  • Swiss Made: New Super-Squale Launched

The Super-Squale model was launched in the 60s, and immediately became one of the most popular watches of the Squale brand. Indeed it was not by chance that in 1959 charles Von Büren registered the “Super-Squale” trademark together with the “Squale” brand itself, symbolic of a watch destined to become iconic in the world of dive watches. The Super-Squale model was born to be a skin diver: with a water resistance of 200 meters, a 38-millimeter diameter case and a width of only 45mm, the Super Squale has been designed to be as lightweight as possible during dives, with or without a wetsuit. The new Super-Squale models are not only paying homage to the past: the versions faithful to the originals are flanked by totally new models that have a modern feel but maintain all the necessary features for diving. In the 1960s, diving watch crystals were made of plexiglass, a resistant but easily scratched material. Today, the models in the Super-Squale collection are equipped with a double-domed sapphire crystal, essential to avoid any distortion in terms of legibility, while maintaining the vintage charm of the iconic case. • AN ODE TO THE RARE VINTAGE TOOL WATCH

SUPER ANTARCTIC 3/6/9 The first watch to set foot, as it were, on the 5th continent. What could be cooler than wearing a beautiful tool watch with history, patina and charm? A watch that has a look and a soul. All eyes are on the new SUPER ANTARCTIC 3/6/9, black version or with a “tropical” twist. Two novelties paying tribute to vintage tool watches : SUPER ANTARCTIC 3/6/9 – with a deep black dial mounted on black perforated leather strap; and SUPER ANTARCTIC 3/6/9 “CADRAN TROPICAL” – with an intense and shimmering brown dial, the color of dark chocolate, coffee beans or tobacco drying in the sun, mounted on a caramel leather strap. REVIVING THE GLORY OF NIVADA GRENCHEN Nivada Grenchen timepieces have been a part of the Swiss watchmaking landscape since 1926, the year Jacob Schneider founded the brand in Granges (Grenchen in Swiss-German). In 1976, his son Max took over the business. In the US, the Croton Company was the official distributor for all Nivada Grenchen watches, which explains why some timepieces sport the Croton signature or both the Croton and Nivada Grenchen logos. In 1930, Nivada Grenchen was one of the first companies to manufacture automatic watches. This led in 1950 to the creation of Nivada Grenchen’s first waterproof automatic watch: the Antarctic. The watch was worn by the members of the American Navy’s Deep Freeze 1 expedition to the South Pole from 1955 to 1956. OPERATION DEEP FREEZE, 1955-56 : THE FIRST WATCH TO SET FOOT ON ANTARCTICA With its shimmering light blue icebergs, ageless frozen expanses, Antarctica has no longitude, only a latitude of 90°. Terra Australis, as Antarctica was referred to on the first charts – the Earth’s southernmost, most hostile landmass and the last continent to be discovered – continues to be a source of fascination for explorers, scientists, and historians ever since it was first discovered over two centuries ago. In 1955, the United States undertook a series of missions to Antarctica in support of the National Science Foundation. Operation Deep Freeze, the first permanent base to be established in one of the coldest and most austere environments on planet Earth, has been in place since the 1950s. Year in, year out, people have been heading out to Antarctica in the name of science, exploration, and for a historically unique human experience. Antarctica in winter is one of the windiest, coldest, driest, and most desolate places in the world; traveling to and from the continent is not without danger. Polar explorer Admiral Richard E. Byrd was President Eisenhower's logical choice to serve as Officer in Charge of Operation Deep Freeze I. On his wrist, a NIVADA ANTARCTIC tool watch. A watch originally conceived for Antarctic exploration. Nivada Grenchen has since been synonymous with reliable performance under the most extreme conditions, not least for its ability to withstand great variations in temperature and humidity. A robust, shockproof and anti-magnetic watch. “The idea was to reinterpret the style of vintage watches of the time. The dial, originally black, underwent many aging processes to obtain this characteristic ‘Tropical’ tone where warm oranges and browns blend with the indexes and hands, which have also been aged, to obtain this creamy latte effect typical of vintage watches. Our intent was to emphasize the retro aesthetic and we’re quite proud of the result,” says Guillaume Laidet, the brand's co-founder and CEO, adding: “It’s a carefully guarded recipe and as a result, each piece is absolutely unique.” A FAITHFUL REISSUE OF THE ICONIC MID-CENTURY EXPLORATION TOOL WATCH The new SUPER ANTARCTIC is a modern watch infused with the spirit of the 1950s original, authentic and worthy of bearing the same. This vintage-inspired timepiece will no doubt impress not only fans of the brand. By early 2022, we knew it was our mission to revive the SUPER ANTARCTIC, with the same original spirit. And guts, too, but up to modern standards (sapphire crystal) and a Swiss automatic movement (Soprod P024) with screw-down crown ensuring water resistance to 10 ATM. The SUPER ANTARCTIC, a faithful reissue of the iconic precursor, comes with various dial variations. The case has a diameter of 38 mm, with a lug-to-lug distance of 45 mm, and a thickness of 11.1 mm. The gold medallion on the case back is a nod to its illustrious heritage. The 38mm case wears comfortably on the wrist, especially on the rugged leather strap it comes with. The strap kit includes a quick-release system for easy strap changes. Beneath the Nivada name is the word Aquamatic, which represents both the type of movement (automatic) and its water resistance. The Super Antarctic label in vintage typography by the six o'clock position faithfully echoes the original. GOLDEN MEDALLION – A TRIBUTE TO THE ORIGINAL If we flip the watch over, we see a large gold medallion on the case back: a tribute to the vintage Antarctic model – the first watch to set foot, as it were, on the 5th continent – which sported such a decoration. It is one of the most intriguing aspects of the watch, depicting a scene from Operation Deep Freeze I, the first of several missions to establish a permanent base in Antarctica: the engraving shows an airplane and an icebreaker under the stars and a crescent moon; a mountain range and glacier in the distance. The medallion was originally incorporated into vintage Nivada Antarctic models to commemorate the International Geophysical Year (1957) and the impetus it gave to the exploration of Antarctica. PRE-ORDERS EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE AND SALES MODEL 2.0 Since its digital rebirth more than 2 years ago, Nivada has been able to develop with a growing community online, especially Instagram. Since its relaunch, the brand has always relied on a sales model consisting of successive and time-limited capsule collections, offered exclusively online via a pre-order system. An intelligent and virtuous entrepreneurial model, as Guillaume Laidet, its co-founder, points out: “Our intention is to produce models as close to the originals as possible, while remaining affordable,” he explains. “The watch industry has no shortage of sleeping giants to revive,” he concludes. The SUPER ANTARCTIC 3/6/9 watch is available at an 750 USD, starting 15 November 2022, exclusively on nivadagrenchenofficial.com. A first batch of watches will be immediately available, with a guaranteed delivery before Christmas. The second part of the orders will be fulfilled before the end of January 2023.

  • Hauser & Wirth Zurich presents the first Make Hauser & Wirth exhibition in Switzerland

Above: Julia Obermaier. Verborgen #10. Photo: Julia Obermaier. Right: Akiko Hirai. Moon Jar Large 'Earth', 2022. Photo: Dave Watts. Hauser & Wirth’s space on Rämistrasse in Zurich presents the first Make Hauser & Wirth exhibition in Switzerland. Curated by Jacqueline Moore, Senior Director of Make Hauser & Wirth, ‘Within. Without’ examines the dialogue between artists like David Gates, Helen Carnac, Derek Wilson, Alexander deVol, and features LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize finalists, Akiko Hirai (2019), Harry Morgan (2019), Peter Bauhuis (2021) and Julia Obermaier (2022). The exhibition in Zurich puts on view both traditional techniques and new and evolving notions of material investigation, highlighting the creative excellence and vision of the makers’ individual practices and in turn, suggesting the true breadth of contemporary craft. Multidisciplinary works by these eight artist-makers, spanning disciplines from wood, ceramic and gemstone to metal, glass and concrete; include Hirai’s texturally rich ceramic moon jars imbued with an animate energy; the hand carved forms of deVol that reveal the inherent properties of wood; altered vessels by Wilson exploring the fluid potential of geometry, and the jewellery of Obermaier. Originating in Somerset, England, Make launched in 2018 and this summer, its second outpost debuted in Southampton NY. Works exhibited by Make embrace material truth, provenance, sustainability and the value of emotional engagement with the handmade. With the debuting exhibition in Zurich, curator Jacqueline Moore, honours knowledge, process and experimentation, the objects on view reveal an intuitive response to interior and exterior form and material properties, (see below). Could you elaborate on the Make concept and the idea to debut Make in Zurich? Jacqueline Moore: Over the past four years, we’ve held over 23 exhibitions in locations across the UK, Europe and the US that have celebrated some of the best independent artist-makers working today. We’re thrilled to introduce such an outstanding selection of artist-makers for Make’s first presentation in Switzerland, the birthplace of Hauser & Wirth and home to a great tradition of makers and craftsmen. We want to celebrate and grow the relevance of contemporary craft on a wide scale – and our commitment to these artist-makers, plus our growing international presence, is testament to that. Evolving Make across digital platforms over the past couple of years has also been an exciting development, but the works at Make really demand to be seen, held, touched. We’re pleased to offer the Swiss audience a visceral, intimate experience with the works on display at Hauser & Wirth Rämistrasse. What do you hope to convey through this presentation to the Zurich audience? The presentation essentially compacts the ethos of Make all into one with the wide range of disciplines on display, from wood, ceramic and gemstone to metal, glass, and concrete. It also honours both traditional techniques and new and evolving notions of material investigation. It’s really an opportunity to view the true breadth of contemporary craft. What did you focus on when curating this particular group of eminent artist-makers for the Zurich art lovers? This presentation in Zurich shows our long-term dedication to artist-makers who have been at the core of our pro-gramme since its inception. I particularly focused on a dynamic selection of makers who have a shared vision for experimentation. When curating this presentation, I wanted to celebrate the rich narratives and vision at the heart of contemporary craft practice and offer visitors a deep engagement with the handmade. Could you give some examples of what is unique about the approach to the materials used by artists? Each maker possesses an intimate understanding of their material, whether working with methods rooted in tradition or employing new techniques. The vision for experimentation that I’ve discussed is what makes each approach distinctive. For example, Harry Morgan often reimagines the traditional Venetian glassblowing technique ‘murrini.’ Peter Bauhuis also deviates from the norm by purposefully engaging with chance. He does this by fusing different alloys and playing with oxidation. Similarly, Akiko Hirai revels in the deliberate imperfections and impuri-ties that emerge through the firing process. Other makers, such as Derek Wilson, Julia Obermaier and David Gates, consider functionality when approaching their materials in order to create sculptural objects that can also be used. Within the confines of its atelier, the brand employs its vast expertise, crafting wonderful expressions of fine watchmaking. Indeed, it is here where the highly popular AIKON models are produced alongside the Maison’s high-end Masterpiece collection, a range of timepieces often equipped with a Manufacture movement. In 2021, Maurice Lacroix launched the AIKON Master Grand Date, a watch uniting the mechanical virtuosity of the Masterpiece collection with the AIKON’s urban design language. Now the brand is pleased to announce the release of a new version of this latter model, the AIKON Master Grand Date Black, a timepiece which stylishly juxtaposes black and white tones. It features a dial plate, executed in vertically brushed black DLC, reinforcing the stealthy nature of the watch. The prevailing hours and minutes are shown on an off-centre dial enriched with Clous de Paris, while a small seconds display is positioned adjacent. Located at 10 o’clock, a complex mechanism, featuring two date discs, delivers a highly legible large-format date indication. Consistent with other members of the AIKON collection, the case eschews conventional lugs and integrates the strap within the housing, delivering impressive wearer comfort. Maurice Lacroix has chosen to equip the model with a new style of rubber strap that features the brand’s name presented in relief as well as a second strap made from synthetic leather with textile effect, incorporating the brand’s now-legendary ‘M’ logo.
