  • Editions Gallimard publishes a book on Christian Bérard and Christian Dior

CHRISTIAN DIOR, CHRISTIAN BÉRARD. JOYFUL MELANCHOLY, A NEW BOOK PUBLISHED BY GALLIMARD In the 1930s, Christian Dior, then a partner in the Pierre Colle gallery, exhibited the young Bérard's paintings alongside those of Dalí, Picasso and Matisse. A few years later, when he opened a house in his own name, Christian Bérard gave him his bountiful support. In return, the couturier entrusted Bérard with the decoration of his first boutique, Colifichets, on Avenue Montaigne. Christian Bérard advised him to adorn this initial setting in toile de Jouy – the celebrated signature-print and emblem of French savoir-faire, that would become an iconic Dior reference. Laurence Benaim examines the sincerities tying Christian Bérard and Christian Dior together in a generously documented book released by Editions Gallimard in association with Dior. Everything first seemed to be against them: the flamboyant, extremely sensitive Bébé contrasts with the covert, enigmatic Monsieur Dior. It was, however, love at first sight. © Dior “All of Dior is in Bérard, all of Bérard is in Dior. This book is not a two-headed biography — it is a meandering in the heart of a history haunted by dreams, affinities, and secrets sewn in the lining of vanishing time.” Laurence Benaïm* “The seeming casualness brought the whole place to life,” Monsieur Dior wrote referring to the work of his friend,"that arbiter of parties, of all elegance…”. The book Christian #Dior, Christian Bérard. La mélancolie joyeuse – sumptuously illustrated with works of art and precious photographs – brings to life the Paris of artists, from the Belle Epoque to the Liberation, from the Boeuf sur le toit to the post-war Café Society. Two destinies that respectfully echo and influence each other; two Christians, two men always brought together by their shared passions, art and beauty in all their forms. From page to page, they appear in the truth of their purest talent, between triumphs and doubts, promises and secrets. An ode to friendship and dreams. * French journalist, biographer and writer. • rokh SS24 at Paris Fashion Week

The Rokh Spring/Summer 2024 collection represents a thoughtful response to the ever-evolving lifestyle we inhabit. It captures the essence of individual dynamics while celebrating the enduring charm of timeless attire. Designer Rok Hwang dedicated substantial time to reimagining contemporary wardrobe essentials. His approach involves a deep dive into the construction and intricate details of each garment. The SS24 collection places a paramount focus on the artistry of garment construction and the quest for the ideal fit, aligning with the modern preferences and desires of discerning individuals. All images and text courtesy of Rokh. This collection presents an ability to draw inspiration from the world around us, reshaping the familiar into something refreshingly original. It remains firmly rooted in the classic staples of a well-rounded wardrobe—trousers, sweaters, shirts, blazers, suits, and evening dresses—yet it introduces a novel sense of proportion by meticulously deconstructing these garments. They retain their inherent character while forging a new relationship with the contours of the human body. For instance, the military jacket undergoes a modern transformation, subtly revealing the body's natural curves. Trousers and wide-leg culottes are crafted with unwavering dedication to impeccable cuts and fits, bestowing an elegant poise and attitude. As classic wardrobe elements intertwine, glimpses of their construction are unveiled, paying homage to the spontaneity of the creative process. This ethos of reconstruction extends to the inclusion of menswear, where wardrobe staples are reimagined in washed twill wool, drill ivory cotton, or vintage blue denim. These choices evoke textures reminiscent of Ivy League heritage. Garments are distressed or reinterpreted on varying scales. The fusion of aged, vintage-inspired workwear in washed cotton results in a distinctive, nuanced appearance. Striped shirts and athletic pieces exude an aura of sun-bleached nostalgia. The 1900s sailor trouser undergoes a metamorphosis, yielding a dual effect. The Oxford-style shirt is reimagined and meticulously constructed using technical fabrics, and the trench coat is reassembled to introduce additional layers and drapery, creating entirely new forms. The colour palette evokes a sense of nostalgia, featuring vivid magenta and washed and bleached tones such as pebble beige or delicate blush pink. These hues intermingle with classic black, white, and denim blue, collectively conjuring a vintage ambience. In the realm of attire, both everyday essentials and modern workwear serve distinct purposes, each bearing unique significance. This collection stands as a remedy to superficial novelty, diving deep into the fundamental realities of clothing, and meeting the sartorial needs and desires of individuals. Materials Deeply rooted in authenticity, the materials employed in this collection draw inspiration from the straightforward craftsmanship traditionally linked to classic workwear attire. They include heavy drill cotton, cavalry twill, knitted wools, and double-bonded cotton gabardine, which have longstanding associations with menswear. These unpretentious materials stand in stark contrast to the more delicate or opulent choices, such as chiffon, crepe silk, crochet applique lace, and intricately textured woven knits. This harmonious blend is occasionally disrupted by the audacious presence of vinyl, silicone coatings, heavy leathers, and rubberized textures reminiscent of a Mackintosh. Technique The approach to reinvention in the Rokh collection introduces a new silhouette and practicality for this season. This process of transformation involves simplifying a garment to its core and then introducing fresh elements. The outcome is clothing that carries the echoes and memories of its predecessors. This approach breathes new life into classic techniques, delivering a blend of tradition and innovation that defines the collection. Accessories A generously-sized, soft-textured Rokh bag takes centre stage. Crafted from lightweight vintage Italian cowhide, this bag offers both a soft touch and fluid contours. The Rokh leather cloud bag boasts versatile features, making it suitable for various activities. Enhanced by deep greens, the predominantly neutral colour palette highlights skilfully blended hues and distinctive rose gold metal accents. The jewellery collection mirrors the vintage and collectible motifs found throughout the overall collection. Earrings and necklaces are plated and polished in rose gold tones reminiscent of vintage cars or classic car chrome finishes. These pieces reflect the decorative elements found in automobiles, adding a touch of automotive nostalgia to the ensemble. Pack nicotine alternatives Smoking cessation isn’t a one-and-done thing; being out with friends—especially smokers—might exacerbate your cravings. • Zuhair Murad Ready-To-Wear Spring-Summer 2024

Zuhair Murad recently unveiled Bridal Spring-Summer 2024 that celebrates the dolce vita glamour of the 70s. For his RTW 2024 line Murad elevates this glamour to sophisticated level in a collection that celebrates the Florida's sea resort's sun-kissed life-rhythm. By Nermin A. This summer Zuhair Murad surprised everyone when he presented his Couture FW23–24 collection contrary to his past Haute Couture Summer 2023 show that was staged in a bright colour scheme of summer meadow, celebrating the art of macramé. For fall 2023/2024 Murad surprisingly embraced the elegance of black and white, defying his natural desire to create collections full of vivid and rich hues. Now Murad successfully continues this elegance in the new spring-summer 2024 RTW collection. However Murad's RTW 2024 still has lot of colour, just like Zuhair Murad Resort 2024 collection that is full of bright warm colours as it takes inspiration from old glamour stars like Joan Crawford, the epitome of Hollywood opulence in the roaring 1920s, and Raquel Welch, the embodiment of 1970s cinema glamour. Zuhair Murad still allows lot of colour for RTW collection but with a twist that he is famous to add to his looks and fabrics, with his trained eye and sense for how the light interacts with fabric and colour, something he explored lately in the Haute Couture spring 2022 collection where designer presented and idea of colours faded by the sun and salt or the rust of oxidized metals. Similarly RTW 2024 includes colours that are subdued as soft shadow covers his monochrome looks that do sparkle nevertheless with tasteful Swarovski embroidery in a matching colour for the cocktail and evening dresses. This seems well considerad selection and mix of colour, as it is adapted to a narrative about an extraordinary voyage to Miami where glowing coastal brilliance intertwines with ethereal transparency of sea fog. The scene is set with a blend of sequins and delicate flowers in mint green and "waterfall blue" caftans, chiffon gowns and long dresses. The collection is edgy with a sweetness of delicate lace weaving in corseted bodices and summer knits. Designer proposes denim for day, ornated with abstracted crystal flowers appliqués, since we are in Florida, however tweed looks are an option for casual soirées. RTW 2024. © Zuhair Murad. • PEET DULLAERT Couture Fall-Winter 2023

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr Jan Versteeg opened the doors to PEET DULLAERT exquisite Couture show, which was made possible thanks to brand's many supporters, including, Frederieke Broekgaarden - Nicolas Augé, equally the brand gives back to the community by funding The Ocean Cleanup, and via 'One Tree Planted' as well as the 'Trees for the Future' organisation; to help improve the livelihoods of impoverished families by aiding to revitalise degraded lands through Forest Gardens, to aid efforts to reverse deforestation. TENCEL™ LUXE, in collaboration is used to create look above Looking for innovative ways to offer a responsible alternative in luxury, the collaboration with TENCEL™ continues. This season the brand introduces new fabrics made of TENCEL™ LUXE, alongside TENCEL™ crêpe fabrics. A new collaboration backed by innovation and savoir-faire was found with Sicily based ORANGE FIBER who developed with Italian weaver Taborelli a fabric woven of TENCEL™ Lyocell filament yarn and TENCEL™ Limited Edition Lyocell yarn—spun with fibers made from certified wood and orange peel pulp from Sicily, woven in Como. Peet Dullaert : "The origin of TENCEL™ Limited Edition with ORANGE FIBER is fascinating and inspiring to me; fibers made from certified wood and orange peel pulp have been created in such a revolutionary and sustainable way. Being a longstanding collaborator of TENCEL™ LUXE since its inception, I feel what connects us is the dedication and focus on responsible and modern design, with forward-thinking savoir-faire, our partnership enables us to create a better world together.” " Couture unfolds " show notes: This collection is my reminder to celebrate even more passionately than I have ever before, the people and the planet. - Peet Dullaert, Artistic Director of PEET DULLAERT Paris. What is beauty, the question that is the bane of our industry’s existence, cannot be addressed with only the presentation of the end product on the runway. I want to deconstruct the set norms of couture and show you the process done differently. From the cuts that mold on the body, to embrace it, not claim; our inspiration at the Atelier is rooted in celebration of the myriad of human silhouettes. Each of them, entirely shaped and sewn by hand. "Cousu main" : a needle, a thread, creation without the use of a machine. Admiration for the human body, paying homage to the significant shape that breathes movement and transcendent flow. Symbolic to the process of fluid shape creation, that has been a guiding architect. Reflection on life in a digital age. Silhouettes emerging from a storm, to honour resilience and movement of the body. You are meant to live in our clothes, to be. The creations, crafted by artisanal fabric manipulation, resulting in unique surfaces that honour nature, reinterpret suiting adapted to modern posture [1] and flou-tailoring [2]. The exploration of organic shapes and the human anatomy through re-invented techno-pleat designs [3] is what the collection speaks to. Such creation is greatly personal at the base of it all, and inspired by the lives of the diverse group of individuals around me, the generations that inspire and teach me. And so, our inspiration at the Atelier is rooted in this celebration of people, and the myriad of their human silhouettes. PEET DULLAERT is devoted to support initiatives that plant towards a greener future, under our Care for Earth pledge. [4] This approach is part of the company's mission to further our responsible in-house production cycle [5], with sustainable made-to-order collections at its foundation. "While we celebrate unique vision and identity of people, connect generations, and reflect on the world with responsibly made collections, we share tribute stories inspired by our resonating Earth and the mystical environments surrounding us. In essence, we communicate a responsible alternative for luxury fashion and highlight our inseparable connection with Earth and our responsibility to care ; As people, as a community. PEET DULLAERT Signature Suiting - Cut for modern posture. Our cuts allow you to type on your phone, bend your arms at angles needed to live today’s lifestyle, whilst maintaining a fluid sartorial look. This is achieved through the house’s signature turned cut that allows for dynamic movement of the body, achieved through a bias-cut direction on the back and the arms. As opposed to traditional linear position of seams, that does not allow the wearer to live an active life, our signature cut allows for free movement of the arms complimented by design aesthetic that makes our seams flow with the body’s movement. Flou-tailoring – A technique where the fabric is shaped directly on a live body, without the process of creation on a mannequin. The genesis of every design created in this collection is through live draping on the body. PEET DULLAERT Techno pleating – A unique innovation of the house in treating fabric, techno pleating is manipulation of the house trademark pleated-fabric to create shapes. Shapes that are either manipulated by hand or machine, by only one artisan that creates each piece. The way the fabric is pleated and structured, it allows for the wearer to move in the clothes; without feeling constrained by the hems of the clothing. Even though each piece is couture made, the buyer can be assured that they will comfortably be able to fit into the clothes through the journey of their life. The techno pleating material further allows the wearer to travel without worrying about creases. One can bunch up the clothes, such that it is compact and can be fit into a travel suitcase, unfolded and draped on the body. For a carefree wearer that is active and does not want to be worried about ironing, luggage space, but priorities aesthetics and cuts. Care for earth - For every purchase made directly via PEET DULLAERT and through retailers the brand support four causes : 1% of our the revenue goes towards carbon removal as a Stripe Climate Member. "We fund the The Ocean Cleanup, while simultaneously raising awareness to protect and preserve the oceans and decaying coral reefs through our inspired collections. Via 'One Tree Planted' we donate trees to be planted in the Amazon rainforest, and donate to the 'Trees for the Future' organisation; to help improve the livelihoods of impoverished families by aiding to revitalise degraded lands through Forest Gardens, to aid efforts to reverse deforestation." Responsible in-house production cycle – On a made to order basis, for ready to wear and couture, translating to our goal of conscious production. As the house only uses materials to fulfill specific orders leading to minimal scope for waste. The shipment process is end to end carbon neutral with fully recyclable packaging. • Zeus+Dione SS24 Collection

"ICARO" Spring - Summer 2024 Collection takes us on a mythological journey in ancient Greece. In the creative universe of Marios Schwab, Zeus+Dione’s S/S’24 Collection stands tall as an homage to the storied ICARO ceramics of Rhodes island. A compelling tale told in two resounding drops, expertly braiding the strands of heritage and postmodernism. In the first drop, the collection plunges headlong into the kaleidoscopic world of ICARO ceramics—a place where each brushstroke carries the weight of history, where heavenly colours and motifs unfurl across ceramic canvases. Here, tulips, pomegranates, cypresses, and carnations bloom alongside depictions of maritime vessels and graceful creatures. These timeless patterns, borrowed from the iconic “Natura” motifs, form a profound connection to our heritage through a new visual vocabulary. The colour palette detonates with bold strokes of copper, brick red, Mediterranean blue, turquoise and green—a nod to ICARO’s regal shades. The signature spathoto silk, is interwoven with similar colours, alongside the ever-classic black and white. Textures awaken as natural linen, cotton voile, printed canvas and pleated crepe become the backdrop for expression. Metallic copper and eco-leather micro-pleating, jersey as a “second-skin” and fishing-nets ensnared in French chiffon all echo the pulse of the new-age spirit. The standout touch? Aris Tzonevrakis’ intricate carnation embroideries, gracing the bodice— a testament to artisanal devotion and craftsmanship. • Casablanca debuts at the Official Paris Fashion Week Womenswear Schedule

Casablanca debuts at Women's Official Paris Fashion Week schedule, after its Men's Fall/Winter 2023–24 collection, titled For the Peace By Nermin A. SEE ALSO Casablanca Paris - Automne-Hiver 2022/2023 Charaf Tajer made it on the official Paris Fashion Week calendar with his brand Casablanca. And as usual, he takes us on a journey to a vibrant and promising country. After Mexico and Syria, we land in West Africa—Nigeria, to be exact. Tailoring takes central place again and gives the color-filled collection refinement and justification for the brand to be adopted by the official calendar in Paris and to present on Nigeria's national day, October 1. It celebrates the country’s independence from Britain, aptly calling the collection the Day of Victory. These are clothes to wear on such a day and celebrate. Casablanca invites us to the corners of the world that we don't associate with travel and resorts, but she never fails to showcase that we are essentially all the same and want to lead a good life and let go sometimes. The contemporary luxury looks feature many references to West African culture. Daywear consisted of double-breasted looks that were mixed with flamboyant evening wear for both menswear and womenswear. The message was clear, with warm colors and bold prints on the outfits. This time, Casablanca suits and uniforms were not decorated with medals; instead, there was a lot of interlocking heart embroidery and beadwork on the shorts, a nod to West Africa’s rich craftmanship and importance of coastal crafts and lifestyle. All the research helps to demonstrate how the collection is deeply rooted in the style language of Nigeria, and its capital, Lagos, is considered African fashion capital art, while the African fashion industry lacks behind and is challenged by the mass import of secondhand, which has in many African countries led to revolts against this and local produce is favored. Still imported used clothing is frequently blamed for the low level of domestic apparel manufacturing in Africa. Knitwear is an unavoidable trend for next summer and can be used for night and day, from long dresses to polo shirts and sultry tank tops. The was alluded to in beaded crochet shorts and tops, but also as appliqués and embroidery used to accent hemlines on denim separates. The Parisian house is today carried in over 300 of the world’s most prestigious stores and boutiques. And with this much enthusiasm, the contemporary luxury house can aptly advocate for some change. • Maison Margiela Co-Ed Spring-Summer 2024 collection

    — Co-Ed Spring/Summer 2024 Collection by Maison Margiela in Paris takes star guests like Paris Jackson and Jared Leto to and a naval voyage across periods and continents. By Nermin A. Maison Margiela investigates how generational adaption of an inherited clothing reflects individual reality. We are invited to a naval narrative part of the Maison’s ongoing chronicle of the imagined characters Count and Hen. Spring-summer 2024 Women’s Fashion Show Collection, look 7. © Maison Margiela– All rights reserved With his innovative and disruptive style of thinking, creative director John Galliano has not only incorporated decades of studying fashion history into this narrative, but he is also utilising it in order to alter and push the boundaries of what is traditional and what is the modern way of dressing. Guest attending the show were met by one of Gallianos favorite naval themes paired with mauvais garçons "projected imagery of a transatlantic ship towering over the roofs of a twentieth-century English port city. On its passage to America, an adolescent meeting between the parents of Count and Hen unfolds: one, the son of an impoverished aristocratic line; the other, the daughter of an industrial family of pretense." The narrative is brought to live by incredible cast of models who interpret the collection's atmosphere with its air of steely climate; born aboard a cargo between traveling trunks full of clothes that will be reinterpreted and upcycled by the new generations. The question is not how we adapt clothes over time—the emphasis is put on the irreversibility of the process of modification and generational advancement—thus the collection introduces a new technique of pressage of dresses and shirts, while Galliano opts to rip away the top layer of the bustier to reveal its laminated construction, with a relief effect across drapes and creases! Galliano rejects the existing quo because in his universe, the line between opposites is less rigid. The collection features a range of distinctive styles, each embellished with notions from various time periods and mindsets to express the contemporary originality of the individual and how it adapts to the complexity of social reality in time. This seems like the perfect collection for artists and stars, notably front-row guests Paris Jackson, Jared Leto Seemingly contradicting collection features dresses customized with tape or work-in-progress stitching, juxtaposed to the Maison’s Rorschach cutting, or the adaptation of masculine wardrobe with the delicacy of the feminine wardrobe, culminates in coats underpinned with sculptural basques. New Tabi brogues and Tabi spectator shoes are interpreted in several ways. Deck shoes nod at the narrative’s premise. Shopping bags, bowling bags, and vase bags adapt the Rorschach dots, while hats mimic mid-century shapes through naïve construction. Galliano masterfully sums up the intercontinental voyage and converges different times.
