  • Acne Studios debuts in Switzerland

Acne Studios debuts in Zurich Courtesy of www.acnestudios.com Acne Studios opens its first retail space in Switzerland On the second floor of the newly renovated Globus department store in Zürich, Acne Studios is introducing its design language to the Swiss audiences for the first time. Dating back to 1907, Globus is an iconic destination with a rich heritage in the heart of the Swiss capital’s shopping mile. Most recently, the department store has been undergoing a floor-by-floor transformation. This September marks the reopening of their second floor that hosts an extensive offering of luxury womenswear brands and their AW23 collections. Nestled in a prime spot at the floor’s core is Acne Studios, with a retail concept that captures the essence of the brand and its creativity. Spreading across 40 square meters, the dedicated boutique is clad in signature shades of pink, with industrial touches and design details that reference Johansson’s latest collections. The hero of the interior architecture is a glass cabinet made in pink anodized metal filled with folded layers of matching fabrics, as imagined by artist and long-time collaborator Max Lamb. Lamb is also the creative mind behind the ‘blob’ seat, an elongated soft structure that breaks into the tonal color story with a shade of punchy Fuchsia. The flooring reminisces on the trompe-l’œil effects seen both in the AW23 and the SS23 catwalk shows,as it recontextualizes the harsh lines of ceramic tiling with a soft carpeting fabric. Suggestive in their transparency, the boutique’s glass modules consist of shelving and hanging and show off a selection of key AW23 pieces across ready-to-wear, denim, bags, shoes and accessories. The new Acne Studios retail space opens in Globus (Schweizergasse 11, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland) on September 7th. Created by David White, the set design takes direct inspiration from the fantasy forest of Acne Studios FW23 show. “With this collection I was thinking about the dark winters we have in Sweden, where there are only few hours of daylight. I wanted to capture the beauty of the darkness in both the collection and set. Sweden is the kind of place where the city end abruptly and then the pine forest begins” says Jonny Johansson, creative director of Acne Studios. Yai embodies the powerful protagonist of the season – a striking vision in a selection of key looks styled by Léopold Duchemin, with hair by Jawara and bold make-up from Masaé Ito. Elevated versions of DIY techniques are seen through the crinkled and distressed leather pieces, which Anok Yai wears as a sleek matching set with a delicate cut-out top in a leaf print underneath. A total look in neon pink made out of a sheer, gauze-like fabric, takes this narrative even further, with layers of fabric draped across Yai’s frame. The campaign also features the new Multipocket bag – a distressed, collapsed satchel with ruched details, inspired by vintage camera cases. The campaign release coincides with the launch of the FW23 collection, which is available in stores and online worldwide on October 5. • Gübelin unveils Glacial Symphony – A haute joaillerie homage

Glacial Symphony – A haute joaillerie homage to a glistening glacier and the summit of Swiss artisanship Image © Maison Gübelin The organically fluid design of the Glacial Symphony chandelier earrings is a homage to the beauty of nature and the creative forces of the Swiss Alps. The chandelier earrings were inspired by the inner world of a sapphire that reveals unique structures which reminded the atelier of a glacier feeding a sparkling mountain stream. With Glacial Symphony, Gübelin Jewellery presents a new haute joaillerie creation from their company’s own atelier in Lucerne. Inspired by the inner world of a sapphire (5.40 ct), the designers at the jewellery atelier created these chandelier earrings, and with them, a perfect marriage of contemporary and timeless design. Deeply inspired and highly elegant The impressive chandelier earrings radiate modern elegance and brilliant reflections of light. The fascinating structures deep within the sapphire served as the source of inspiration for this jewellery piece. With the aid of a microscope, the designers immersed themselves in the stone, where they discovered organically curved flowing shapes which reminded them of a majestic glacier feeding a glistening mountain stream. Following this inspiration, they crafted the Glacial Symphony earrings, whose design reflects the inner beauty of the sapphire. At the same time, the design calls forth light refractions in ice crystals and the gently rippling mountain stream dynamically tumbling through a spectacular Swiss Alpine landscape. With its sophisticated design, Glacial Symphony opens up two ways of wearing: as classically elegant ear studs or more festively as chandelier earrings with a flowing gemstone setting. The two cushion-shaped sapphires from Sri Lanka (5.40 ct and 5.18 ct) exude elegance and style. As ear studs, they embody purist design while creating a sparkling blue statement. Set in white gold, the ear studs emphasise and highlight the two impressive sapphires. The ear studs can be easily changed into impressive chandelier earrings. Characteristic for Glacial Symphony are the organically flowing shapes, the convertibility and flexibility of the jewellery as well as the fascinating light reflections emanating from the gemstones. Especially the moveable sections of its chandelier element bring this to the fore and create a lustrous, delicate finish. Iconic ruby The iconic ruby from Gübelin Jewellery identifies both versions of wearing the jewellery in the most beautiful way. The gemstone setting in the chandelier element starts with a cabochon-cut ruby. They are followed by diamonds set in a fine, flowing gradation reminiscent of a glistening mountain stream. This bold energy is highlighted by marquise-shaped sapphires, dramatically heightening the dynamism of Glacial Symphony. The chandelier element is characterised by the artistic arrangement of its gemstones. Gübelin Jewellery’s joy and expertise in working with coloured gems can also be seen and sensed in a further detail whereby selected marquise-shaped sapphires are surrounded by a fine pavé thread. Aquatic sapphires in a harmonious colour gradient emphasise the organically curved shape of Glacial Symphony and bear witness to refinement and the highest degree of artisanship. The glistening red highlight of this composition is comprised of the two rubies, which lend the earrings finesse and another exciting colour shade. They are a signature design element of Gübelin Jewellery and also grace Glacial Symphony. In addition, the two cushion-shaped sapphires are also accompanied by rubies. A total of four rubies designate these earrings as a Gübelin Jewellery creation. Glacial Symphony Glacial Symphony is a symphony of colours, shapes and cuts. Whether the sapphire ear stud is worn solo or in ensemble with the chandelier elements, they always lend every look an individual, modern and personal accent. The earrings are an ode to both artisanship and creativity. They bear witness to a mastery of the craft, starting with the creative design, hand-painted watercolours and carefully worked out drawings through to the meticulous goldsmithing, the multi-facetted stone settings and the perfect polishing, all of which result in a brilliant interplay. As in a symphony, the various skills of the House of Gübelin harmonise in this jewellery piece: from the choice of the finest gemstones which inspired the designers, its creation in the company’s own atelier through to the scientific analysis of the gemstones. These chandelier earrings are set with sapphires totalling 17.35 ct. Sapphires are traditionally associated with the colour blue. This colour stands for loyalty, trust and wisdom. In addition to the two cushion-shaped sapphires and the round sapphires in a gradated colour range, the jewellery is set with six marquise-shaped sapphires. Marquise-shaped gemstones are widely used in contemporary creations. They are experiencing a renaissance since their peak during the heyday of design in the 1960s and 70s. According to legend, this shape of gemstone dates back to the mid-18th century to the French Royal Court. King Louis XV is said to have commissioned this cut inspired by the shape of Madame de Pompadour’s lips. Expertise in gemmology The House of Gübelin is known throughout the world for its expertise in gemmology. The Gübelin Gem Lab is one of the most renowned institutions in this field. This year, the Gem Lab celebrates its 100th anniversary. Leading auction houses, gem traders, jewellery brands, museums and royal families as well as the Gübelin Jewellery brand have come to place their trust in the Gem Lab’s experience and analyses. At Gübelin Jewellery important gemstones are accompanied by internationally recognised gemmological documents. They provide customers assurance of the identity, authenticity and quality of their gemstones. Deeply Inspired The House of Gübelin’s Deeply Inspired philosophy pervades all aspects of the company’s activities. It is based on a unique combination of beauty, knowledge and expertise, always pursuing a deeper understanding of the profession, in tribute to the family’s pioneering spirit. To symbolise this philosophy, each piece of Gübelin Jewellery contains a ruby. It is considered the King of Gemstones and stands for passion and love. The iconic hallmark of Gübelin Jewellery also stands for the Gübelin family’s passion for coloured gemstones. • Acne Studios and Honey F–king Dijon partner again

Acne Studios teams up with Honey F–king Dijon for a third time The latest chapter in the ongoing collaboration between Acne Studios and DJ Honey Dijon explores the life, work and personal style of Robert Mapplethorpe. The legendary photographer was a groundbreaking figure when he emerged as an artist in the late 1960s and early 1970s. And it’s the imagery of Mapplethorpe and his friends from the New York gay leather bar scene from those times that piqued Honey Dijon’s interest and became the starting point for her third collection with the Swedish fashion house. The capsule translates outfits seen in the archival photographs by breaking them down into style archetypes of genderless pieces. A club classic inspired by military undergarments – the mesh tank top – is a quintessential part of Dijon’s look today. But it was also a favorite of Mapplethorpe himself, as evident in the numerous images of him wearing it. In its new rendition, this tank becomes a hero piece of the collection, created in fine cotton jersey netting with a subtle logo tag on the back. The mesh also extends into the staple second-skin, long-sleeve top with a neckline reminiscent of a henley. Taking styling cues from the photographer, the collection builds the looks by using a mix of fabrics with different textures and levels of opacity. A leather twinset evokes sweaty nights spent dancing in an underground club, with the perfect carrot-shaped trouser and a boxy button-up shirt, both crafted in the softest lamb nappa. Another Mapplethorpe leitmotif seen across his oeuvre is an unlikely party uniform – the highly subversive office shirt in cotton poplin. The shirt has a curved hem and a delicate spearpoint collar mostly seen in vintage examples. The final piece in the limited-edition capsule is the ultimate fashion perennial aka a pair of jeans. With a clear style timestamp dating back the 1970s, Dijon’s iterations is a bootcut fit with exposed fly buttons and exaggerated front patch pockets. The colors for the genderless collection also stem from a deeply personal connection of Mapplethorpe’s, borrowing hues directly from the photographer’s extensive collection of ceramics. His most cherished items were the vases and bowls by Swedish ceramist Berndt Friberg, who is known for using natural, earthy tones. Amped up for this occasion, the faded yellows and bleached blues become more vibrant variations of apple green, accompanied by neutral chocolate brown and pale black. The third Acne Studios x HFD capsule collection launches on 15th September and will be available in selected Dover Street Marker locations and HFD worldwide retailers. • The Dress Makes the Man, Haute Couture – A New Era exhibition opens in Stockholm

The exhibition The Dress Makes the Man, Haute Couture – A New Era provides a unique glimpse behind the scenes of a long-standing fashion genre undergoing radical change. Fredrik Robertsson is one of very few couture clients world-wide and even fewer men who custom orders hand-sewn creations from Parisian haute couture houses. The exhibition showcases some 40 of his most spectacular garments from leading fashion houses including Alexis Mabille, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda, Jean Paul Gaultier, Iris van Herpen, Stéphane Rolland, Schiaparelli, Valentino,Viktor & Rolf and Vivienne Westwood, as well as from experimental designers such as Casey Curran, Richard Quinn and Robert Wun. Fredrik Robertsson in a haute couture jacket by Alexis Mabille at the designer's show with friends and couture clients Jennifer Tilly and Sutton Stracke. Since the mid 19th century, the haute couture houses of Paris have been creating high-end, hand-sewn fashion – exclusively for women. Today, a transformation of this traditional art genre is under way. A new generationof designers have taken over as artistic directors and a new category of expressive clients have discovered the highest level of fashion. Fredrik Robertsson is one of the leading figures in the new wave of haute couture clients. Since investing in his first creation just under ten years ago, he has amassed an outstanding collection of meticulously selected garments – originally designed for women – which have been tailored to his body. With his eye-catching, gender-fluid style he has become a style role model and a muse on the international fashion scene, at a time when the boundary between female and male has been blurred and feminine coded garments such as the dress and the skirt have entered the male wardrobe. Fredrik Robertsson’s aesthetic choices and a large number of photographs by Ea Czyz documenting Robertsson’s visits to Paris over the years give us a unique insight into a new era for the mythical world of haute couture. From the front row and backstage at the fashion shows, to the taking of measurements in the fitting room and the sewing studios where the extravagant garments take shape. The exhibition is curated by fashion journalist Susanna Strömquist in collaboration with Fredrik Robertsson for Liljevalchs and will be the first to be shown in all exhibition halls at Liljevalchs+. • Dior pays tribute to Saks and New York

As the holiday season approaches, Dior pays tribute to the powerful ties forged with Saks and New York for over seventy years. The House has thought up a magical Carousel of Dreams that will unfold on the impressive facade of the iconic American department store and within small theaters of the marvelous in all of its twenty-four windows. For the occasion, the prestigious Saks Fifth Avenue is adorned with a spectacular installation – a giant wheel of fortune*, over 35 meters wide – punctuated with Dior codes such as the star, the clover and the signs of the Zodiac, evoking the founding-couturier’s unique legacy and his lucky charms. • Photographic exhibition by architect Roberto Palomba

Roberto Palomba, a world-renowned architect is the cofounder of Palomba Serafini design and architecture studio. Palomba has always been passionate about photography, his debut photographic exhibition Vortex in Ibiza is open to the publich at OBRA23 Gallery until 30th November 2023. © Roberto Palomba - Vortex, exhibition view. “I believe we are part of the same soul. A single primordial generator. We are fragments of the same one perpetuating through time expanding into space, a single conscious will. We draw contiguous souls to us, the most similar fragments, to perpetuate life in eternity. There is only the soul. Energy is the glue that unites the individual entities. I believe there is no life after death. I believe that the soul implodes, fragmenting endlessly, generating other souls. Just as a cell multiplies by dividing, generating an accomplished existence, so does the primordial soul continue to expand. We only live in the moment, reconnecting. Empathy: love, friendship, affection, hatred, indifference. Fragile, immaterial feelings. I believe that every fragment of matter contains part of the primordial essence every conscious or inert being is imbued with life. Reconnect'. - Roberto Palomba Palomba's exhibition will last until the 30th of November, after having been extended thanks to the great success and attention received, and aims to take visitors on an exciting journey through myth, chronicle, and a deep call to life. The “Vortex” exhibition is the result of a project dotted with elements that relate to Roberto Palomba's expressive concept. Each image is imbued with a soul, a being, a life, and it expands through the moments of birth, life, death and regeneration, performed by Giorgio Piantelli, the model who has shared the project with the architect since its inception. “This project was born in collaboration with Giorgio Piantelli, who is not only the model, but who has shared this project with me from its genesis. A continuous exchange between two generations, made of empathy, affection, and mutual curiosity, about our worlds and visions, so distant in time. We moved for a short time to Sardinia, my homeland, shooting voraciously in a flow of inspirations and emotions. We had drawn a rudder and written texts to support what was our project, the wild nature and changing weather shaped our ideas into moments that we have tried to collect in these images. The pure light that reverberates from the sand dunes on which a fallen angel lies, or the slow sunrise in the icy water of dawn from which his figure emerges, were the frame, sometimes not always easy, that we shared, often in total silence, letting the movements, shadows and elements connect us through the lens". Roberto Palomba The images depict human figure confronted with the elements in a symbolic journey to represent the stages of the project, so, for example, water has a limbic significance, similar to amniotic fluid, and represents the theme of rebirth, just as all the other elements take on meaningfulness. The images taken expose day and night lights, and in the latter, the body migrates towards something unknown, with an ever-present figure symbolizing the theme of the transition. The stone staircase, leads to an elsewhere: a dark sea, is intertwined with the motionless figure, similar to a chained Prometheus, suffering eternal martyrdom, embodying the very essence of humanity. One of the most powerful elements of the exhibition is the nude figure representing truth, in the pitiful act of covering the blood in the waters of the Mediterranean with a white shroud. Roberto Palomba seems to emphasize the denial of an afterlife, on the other hand supporting the idea of a perpetuation of life that seeks to expand. The didactic photographic approach of 'Vortex' aims to bring to life a series of mythological and aesthetics elements, transporting the observer's innermost feelings into the news of today. "In photography I look for immediacy, unlike when I deal with projects as an architect and designer, where several time passes from the moment when I have an idea, until its development. Usually, this idea then changes over time evolves, sometimes changes, sometimes vanishes, decays. Instead, photography for me represents immediacy, that feeling, that emotion, that idea, fixed in the very moment in which I thought of it, at the very moment when it happens. For the first time I had the desire, or perhaps the courage, to tell this part of myself." Roberto Palomba The photographic project Vortex contains a collection of thirty images, twenty of which have been selected by Roberto Palomba for the exhibition. Obra23 is a project conceived and created by Leonardo Balli, founder of the design studio Balli Interiors. In an unexpected location, positioned at the gates of the historical center of Ibiza city and at the foot of the "Pitiüses" hills, there is a space of over a thousand square meters where art, photography, and international design converse. Obra23 represents contemporary artists who, in collaboration with curator Roberta Guigli, explore new forms of artistic expression, including the combination of traditional, experimental, and digital techniques.
