Etihad’s new inflight culinary menu rolled out on board its fleet this month with dishes inspired by the airline’s home, the UAE, as well as customised menus reflecting the destinations Etihad flies to. Popular, signature dishes such as the Arabic Mezze starter are complemented by a wide range of new main courses like braised beef short ribs, slow-roasted duck and pistachio crusted salmon followed by treats like vanilla bean panna cotta or trio chocolate cake. Guests in Economy will be served the new menu on Etihad’s sustainable tableware, designed with a closed-loop recycling system to eliminate waste. In Business class the ‘Dine Anytime’ cuisine is served on tableware designed in partnership with legendary designer brand Armani/Casa which the airline rolled out this year to further elevate the experience for its guests. Adding a touch of nostalgia to the celebrations, Etihad has unveiled a suite of limited-edition amenity kits for guests to enjoy on board during the anniversary period. In First and Business class, Etihad’s retro amenity range is inspired by the iconic Etihad Airways 2003 aircraft livery. The pearlescent finish of the bag features distinctive red and gold lines that are reminiscent of the airline’s original aircraft fuselage design. The amenity bags include travel-size beauty products made by renowned skincare label ESPA with this being the first time the brand has collaborated with an airline. The range includes ESPA’s hand cream, spa facial mist and lip treatment and is accompanied by a themed eyeshade, socks and a toothbrush kit. The Residence and First class kits also contain a Rest and Recovery Balm and Pulse Point oil. Guests flying in Economy on medium and long-haul flights will also receive a limited-edition, complimentary amenity tote bag. The bag comes in two collectable designs; a retro themed bag featuring a thin gold and red stripe in the spirit of Etihad’s original livery; and a 20th anniversary edition featuring the airline’s special anniversary design motif, titled ‘Icons of Abu Dhabi’. The handy shopping style bag neatly folds into its own pocket and contains a blanket for guests to use while on board as well as a gift of Beekman hand cream, themed eye shade, ear plugs and a toothbrush kit. “This is a time of celebration for Etihad and we’re proud to share our goodwill with our guests. While it’s our history that has inspired our range of retro amenity kits, we’re looking to the future as we add enhancements to continue to make the guest experience even better, rooted in our renowned Emirati identity,” said Turky Al Hammadi, Head of Product and Hospitality, Etihad. To coincide with the anniversary, Etihad has also re-launched its inflight magazine, Atlas. This November the airline also launched a special supplement to the magazine, featuring a timeline of the airline’s key milestones as well as stories about the people who’ve played a role in the airline’s past 20 years. The 20th anniversary coincides with Etihad’s move to its new home, Terminal A, which it will transition to between the 9 and 14 November. • Overview of the Spanish Child Protection Legislation by Prof. Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez

I Overview of the Spanish Child Protection Legislation originally published on Overview of the Spanish Child Protection Legislation · Children’s Rights Legal Review (pubpub.org) by Manuel Freire-Garabal Núñez Published i on 3 September 2023 Political Science Children’s Rights Legal Review - Overview of the Spanish Child Protection Legislation · Children’s Rights Legal Review (pubpub.org) Abstract: The overview of the Spanish child protection legislation highlights the importance of children's participation in the protection system. The study analyzed 20 Spanish laws that regulate child protection and the rights of children and adolescents (CA) in the protection system (Massons-Ribas et al., 2021). The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) recognizes children's right to participation in Article 12, emphasizing the need for children to be active subjects of rights and to participate in decisions that concern them (Massons-Ribas et al., 2021). In terms of animal welfare legislation, Spain has similar legislation to Italy and Poland, as they originated from the adoption of the same European Commission (EC) directives. However, Sweden and the United Kingdom have more specific and restrictive national rules on animal welfare, which were already in force before the adoption of EC directives (Pejman et al., 2019). While animal welfare is considered an important issue in Spain, the concern is relatively lower compared to northern European countries (Pejman et al., 2019). Regarding legal protection for child victims of immoral crimes, the Child Protection Act in Spain provides comprehensive protection for children who are victims of immoral acts. This includes protection against criminal threats, discriminatory treatment, and legal proceedings. The law also ensures the fulfillment of children's rights in the process of law enforcement and provides rehabilitation for children, both medically and psychologically (LS et al., 2023). In summary, the Spanish child protection legislation recognizes the importance of children's participation in the protection system and aims to provide comprehensive protection for child victims of immoral acts. While Spain has similar animal welfare legislation to Italy and Poland, it is relatively less restrictive compared to Sweden and the United Kingdom. The legislation in Spain reflects the commitment to uphold children's rights and ensure their well-being and protection (Massons-Ribas et al., 2021; Pejman et al., 2019; LS et al., 2023). Introduction to Spanish Child Protection Legislation The legislation and policy in child protection act as essential tools in the interventions with the main focus to keep children safe. The goal is to ensure that children are able to live a life without any form of mistreatment. or mistreatment. This principle is recognized and upheld in most countries around the world, where specific systems and policies for protecting children have been developed to address the unique needs and circumstances of each community. including Spain, have developed their own child-protection system. The child protection legislation in Spain is shaped by the cultural and socio-economic context of the country, as well as the specific needs of different communities.Child protection legislation in Spain is guided by the principles of respecting and guaranteeing the human rights of every child, without discrimination based on factors such as ethnicity, religion, race, class, gender, ethnicity, culture, language, legal status of the child, order of birth of the child, and physical and/or mental condition (Law Number 35 of 2014). In Spain, the birth of the Child Protection Act represents a major milestone in advocating for children's rights and ensuring their well-being. Overview of the Child Protection Act in Spain The Child Protection Act in Spain, passed as Law Number 35 of 2014, outlines the obligations and responsibilities of the State and Government in child protection efforts. This legislation aims to enforce the human rights of children and protect them from any form of maltreatment or abuse. The Act emphasizes the importance of non-discrimination and inclusivity, ensuring that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, is entitled to the same protection and opportunities. The legislation also establishes the need for an independent institution to support the government and regional authorities in implementing child protection measures effectively. This independent institution plays a crucial role in supervising the implementation of child protection policies and programs, ensuring their effectiveness and adherence to international standards. Child protection legislation in Spain also emphasizes the provision of support for facilities and infrastructure necessary for the implementation of effective child protection measures. This includes the allocation of resources, training programs for professionals working with children, and establishing protocols for reporting and responding to cases of child abuse or neglect. Moreover, it is important to note that the child protection system in Spain is influenced by the country's extensive experience in intercountry adoptions. Intercountry adoptions have influenced Spain's child protection system, as the legislation recognizes the importance of ensuring the well-being and rights of all children involved in the adoption process, both domestically and internationally. In recent years, there has been a focus on improving the child protection system in Spain. Efforts have been made to enhance the welfare protection system and provide better support for children in need. The Child Protection Act in Spain represents a major milestone in advocating for children's rights and ensuring their well-being. History and Development of Spanish Child Protection Legislation The concept of using legislation to underpin state powers for the protection of children has been well-established in Spain. Since the 1960s, Spain has been developing legislation, policies, and procedures for the protection of children. The development of Spanish child protection legislation can be traced back to the 1960s, when there was a growing awareness of the 'battered childsyndrome'. During this time, Spain began to recognize the importance of having a comprehensive system in place to safeguard children from abuse and neglect. This led to the formulation of laws and regulations that aimed to protect children's rights and ensure their well-being. One significant figure in the development of child protection legislation in Spain is C. Henry Kempe, a pediatrician from Denver, Colorado. Kempe's advocacy efforts in the United States helped bring attention to the issue of child maltreatment and led to the introduction of reporting laws requiring professionals working with or for children to report instances or suspicions of child maltreatment. Similarly, similar laws were introduced in Australia and Canada in the 1960s and 1970s. Key Components of Spanish Child Protection Legislation The key components of Spanish child protection legislation encompass various aspects to ensure the safety and well-being of children. These components include: Reporting and Investigation: Spanish child protection legislation includes laws that require professionals working with children to report any incidences or suspicions of child abuse or neglect. These professionals, such as teachers, healthcare providers, and social workers, play a crucial role in identifying and reporting cases of maltreatment. They are required to follow specific procedures and protocols to ensure that reports are properly investigated and appropriate interventions are implemented. Intervention and Support: In addition to reporting and investigation, Spanish child protection legislation emphasizes the importance of effective intervention and support for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. This includes providing necessary medical care, counseling services, and support from social welfare agencies. Legal Framework: Spanish child protection legislation provides a legal framework that outlines the rights of children, their protection from harm, and the responsibilities of parents and caregivers in ensuring their well-being. Collaboration and Coordination: Child protection legislation in Spain encourages collaboration and coordination among different professionals, agencies, and organizations involved in the welfare of children, such as education, healthcare, social services, and law enforcement. This collaboration ensures a holistic approach to child protection, with multiple stakeholders working together to identify risks, provide support, and implement preventive measures. 5. Prevention and Education: Spanish child protection legislation prioritizes prevention and education as key components in safeguarding children. This includes promoting awareness about child abuse and neglect, providing resources for preventative measures, and implementing education programs to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to child protection issues. The Spanish legislation on child protection is comprehensive and multifaceted, focusing on various components to ensure the safety and well-being of children. However, despite these efforts and the existence of strong legislation, challenges still persist in the effective implementation and enforcement of child protection measures in Spain. According to a report by Save the Children, there is a lack of reliable data, particularly official data, to inform child protection responses in Spain. This lack of reliable data makes it difficult to fully understand the extent and nature of child protection issues in the country, hindering effective interventions and support for affected children. Moreover, the report highlights a prevailing lack of understanding and capacity among agencies responsible for enforcing child protection measures. These challenges in data collection and agency capacity contribute to gaps in the implementation of child protection policies and hinder the effective provision of support for vulnerable children. Despite the challenges, initiatives have been taken to address these issues and improve child protection in Spain. For example, the establishment of national integrated child protection systems is one such initiative. These systems aim to improve coordination and collaboration among different agencies involved in child protection, ensuring a more comprehensive and integrated approach to safeguarding children. Additionally, the EU conducted a mapping exercise in 2015 to assess the performance of member states in terms of their child protection efforts. The mapping exercise revealed that some progress has been made in Spain, with the existence of a key legal instrument devoted to child protection. This legal instrument addresses the identification, referral, and assessment of child victims of violence, abuse, and neglect. However, the mapping exercise also identified limitations and fragmentation within the national legal framework, which prevent certain vulnerable groups of children from receiving adequate and quality services. Despite the efforts made in Spain to protect children through legislation, challenges remain in effectively implementing and enforcing these measures. One of the main challenges in Spain's child protection system is the absence of official statistics on child maltreatment. This lack of official statistics makes it difficult to establish the incidence, prevalence, and evolution of different types of child maltreatment, especially during times of crisis such as the economic crisis experienced in Spain in recent years. The absence of reliable data hampers the assessment of the effectiveness of social policies and specific devices within the child protection system. Furthermore, there is a prevailing lack of understanding and capacity among agencies responsible for enforcing child protection measures in Spain. These challenges highlight the need for improved data collection and analysis in order to inform evidence-based decision-making and enhance the effectiveness of child protection policies. In order to address these challenges, it is important for Spain to prioritize the establishment of a national integrated child protection system. This system should not only focus on addressing violence against children but also take into account the specific needs and vulnerabilities of different groups, such as children with disabilities, children belonging to ethnic minorities, and unaccompanied and separated children. Additionally, it is crucial for Spain to enhance the capacity of agencies responsible for enforcing and upholding child protection measures. This can be achieved through training programs, improving resources, and strengthening collaboration between different stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners. By addressing these challenges and taking proactive steps to improve the child protection system, Spain can better ensure the well-being and safety of its children. In addition to the challenges related to data collection and enforcement, another important aspect that needs attention is the participation of children in the child protection system. According to recent research, child participation is a pending subject in the Spanish Protection System. The actual moment of family separation is a traumatic experience for children, yet in the majority of cases, they are not consulted or fully informed before it occurs. As a result, it is crucial for the child protection system to respond to situations where the child's perspective contradicts professional opinions about their best interests. This challenge can be addressed by incorporating child participation as a fundamental principle in the legislation and policies governing the Spanish child protection system. Furthermore, it is essential to provide training and support to professionals working within the child protection system to ensure they have the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively engage children and respect their rights to participate in decisions that affect them. Historical Overview of Child Protection Laws in Spain During the Spanish Civil War and Franco's subsequent dictatorship, child protection legislation in Spain was rooted in conservative values. The legislation during this period was more focused on protecting the privacy of parents who acquired children in illicit ways, rather than prioritizing the rights and well-being of the children themselves. This is evident in the placement of children of prisoners for adoption with families that supported the regime during that time. This emphasis on privacy allowed parents to cover up the historical fact of the child's adoption, preventing transparency and hindering efforts to ensure the best interests of the child. To fully understand the child protection system in Spain, it is important to consider the significant number of domestic adoptees who have spent time in child protection centers before being placed with adoptive families. The Significance of Child Participation Child participation is an essential aspect of the child protection system that cannot be overlooked. According to Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, children have the right to participate in matters that significantly impact their lives. This includes decisions about their custody, placement, and overall well-being. Unfortunately, the actual implementation of child participation in the Spanish child protection system has faced challenges. Recent research has highlighted the lack of consultation and complete information provided to children before family separation, which can be a traumatic experience for them. In order to realize the full potential of child participation in the Spanish Child Protection System, it is crucial to address the issue of conflicting viewpoints between children and professionals about what is in the child's best interest. The Spanish legislation on children protection has evolved over time, with a historical backdrop that emphasized privacy and conservative values. However, there is a growing recognition of the importance of child participation and the need to prioritize the rights and well-being of children in the system. This recognition is in line with the global shift towards a rights-based approach to child protection. Child welfare and child protection services play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children, but it is important to acknowledge that these interventions can often be invasive and have a significant impact on the lives of children. Evolution of Spanish Child Protection Legislation In recent times, there has been a move towards prioritizing the needs and perspectives of children in Spanish child protection laws.Legislation and policies have been developed to prioritize the rights and well-being of children, aiming to ensure that they are protected from any form of maltreatment or abuse. The Spanish legislation on child protection has evolved to address the challenges and limitations in achieving children's right to participate. One key aspect of this evolution is the acknowledgment of Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which emphasizes the right of children to participate in matters that significantly impact their lives. This article has served as a central reference point for the incorporation of child participation in Spanish legislation. While there have been significant strides in recognizing the importance of child participation in legislation, implementing it in practice remains a challenge for social workers. Research has shown that social workers often find it difficult to effectively include children in decision-making processes, especially when their perspectives differ from the professional opinion about their best interests. Understanding the Principles of Spanish Child Protection Act The principles underlying the Spanish legislation on child protection are rooted in the best interests of the child. The Spanish Child Protection Act places a strong emphasis on the well-being and rights of children. The act aims to ensure the protection, development, and participation of children in all decision-making processes related to their care. It recognizes that children have a right to express their views and be heard in matters that affect them, emphasizing the importance of their active participation. However, despite the recognition and emphasis on child participation in the legislation, there are still challenges in effectively implementing it. One of the key challenges is how to handle situations where a child's perspective contradicts the professional opinion of what is in their best interest. This challenge arises particularly during family separations, where children may not have been consulted or adequately informed beforehand. Recent research has highlighted the difficulties in incorporating child participation in the Spanish Protection System, particularly during family separations. The trauma experienced by children during family separations is a significant concern, as they are often not consulted or informed about the process. This lack of consultation and information can have a detrimental impact on children, further magnifying the need for effective child participation in the Child Protection System. The need for child participation in the Spanish Protection System is supported by Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms that children have the right to participate in matters that affect their lives. Despite the increased focus on children's rights to participation, studies have shown that social workers face challenges in implementing child participation in practice within the child welfare and protection services field. Roles and Responsibilities under Spanish Child Protection Legislation Under Spanish child protection legislation, there are various roles and responsibilities assigned to different entities to ensure the implementation and enforcement of children's rights. These include: The role of the government: The government has the responsibility to create and enforce legislation that protects the rights of children. They need to develop comprehensive laws and policies that explicitly state the importance of child participation in decision-making processes. It is essential for the government to allocate sufficient resources in order to effectively support the implementation of initiatives aimed at promoting child participation. This includes providing training and support to professionals working in the child protection system, as well as establishing mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of these initiatives. The role of professionals: Professionals working within the child protection system, such as social workers, psychologists, and lawyers, have a crucial responsibility to ensure that children's voices and perspectives are heard and taken into account during family separations and other interventions. They need to actively involve children in decision-making processes, providing them with information and opportunities to express their opinions and preferences. Professionals should receive specialized training on child participation and communication techniques to effectively engage with children in a sensitive and age-appropriate manner. The role of parents and families: Parents and families are responsible for providing a safe and nurturing environment for their children. They should be actively involved in the child protection process, working in partnership with professionals to ensure the best interests of the child are prioritized. This includes attending child protection conferences and meetings, participating in the development of care plans, and actively collaborating with professionals to address any concerns or issues related to the child's well-being. The role of the community: The community plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of child protection legislation. Community members should be educated about children's rights and the importance of child participation in decision-making processes. They can advocate for the inclusion of children's voices in decision-making and hold institutions accountable for upholding children's rights. The role of legislation: Clear and robust legislation is necessary to ensure that children's rights to participation are protected and upheld. In the context of child protection, legislation should explicitly state the importance of children's participation in decision-making processes and outline the specific measures that need to be taken to facilitate their participation. In the case of Spain, the legislation regarding child protection has made significant strides in recognizing the importance of child participation. Comparative Analysis: Spanish Child Protection Laws vs. Other Nations When comparing the Spanish legislation of children protection with other nations, it is important to consider the level of recognition and implementation of child participation rights. Spanish legislation regarding child protection has made significant progress in recognizing and promoting the rights of children to participate in decision-making processes. In Spain, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Article 12, serves as a framework for ensuring children's participation in matters that affect their lives. However, despite this progress, there are still challenges in effectively implementing child participation in practice. Research has shown that social workers in Spain find it challenging to incorporate children's participation in the child protection system. This indicates that while there may be legal obligations and cultural sanctions for child participation in different regions, the actual implementation and realization of children's right to participate can be complex and face barriers in practice. One potential solution to address the challenges faced in implementing child participation in the Spanish child protection system is by emphasizing the importance of community involvement. Community involvement can help create a supportive environment where children's participation is encouraged and valued. Additionally, it is important to analyze the Spanish legislation in comparison with other nations to identify areas where improvements can be made. One country that can be compared to Spain in terms of child protection legislation is Canada. In Canada, the promotion of child participation is also a priority in their child protection laws. The Canadian legislation, similar to Spain, is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and recognizes the importance of children's participation in decision-making processes. According to research, both Spain and Canada have exemplary child protection legislation and policy that align closely with the principles of practice outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. However, while both countries have made significant strides in terms of their child protection legislation on paper, there is still a gap between these legislative changes and the actual quality of life for children, young people, and families. Implementation of child participation remains a challenge in both Spain and Canada. In Spain, one of the challenges in implementing child participation is that children are often not consulted or informed before family separation occurs. This lack of involvement can be traumatic for children and contradicts their right to participate in decision-making processes. Furthermore, research suggests that the structure and practice of social systems need to be modified to enable children's participation. In order to address these challenges, it is crucial to examine the effectiveness of legal arrangements that provide for the appointment of publicly funded child's counsel, who advocates for the child's voice in all proceedings. Impacts and Effectiveness of Spanish Child Protection Laws In order to assess the impacts and effectiveness of Spanish child protection laws, it is important to consider various aspects of the legislation. One aspect to consider is the promotion of child participation in decision-making processes. Recent research has highlighted that child participation is a pending subject in the Spanish Protection System. During the process of family separation, children are often not consulted or fully informed, leading to trauma and a contradiction between their point of view and the professional opinion about their best interests. The lack of child participation in the decision-making process raises concerns about the implementation of children's rights and the overall quality of their lives. Another aspect to consider is the alignment of Spanish child protection legislation with international standards, particularly the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Spain has based its child protection legislation closely on the principles outlined in the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child. This demonstrates a commitment to ensuring the well-being and protection of children. However, challenges still remain in effectively implementing these laws and ensuring the rights and participation of children. One potential solution that has been suggested is the adoption of legal arrangements similar to those found in Ontario, Canada and other countries. In these jurisdictions, the courts have the power to appoint publicly funded child's counsel who represents the child's voice in all proceedings. Research suggests that this approach can make a significant difference in protecting children's right to participate and giving substantial weight to their opinions in decision-making processes. Future research should further examine the impact of such legal arrangements in Spain. Additionally, the Spanish child protection legislation emphasizes the importance of a child's right to development within their family context. However, the implementation of this principle and the promotion of a person-centered approach, child and family participation, and community involvement face challenges in practice. In conclusion, the Spanish legislation of children protection shows a commitment to upholding the rights and well-being of children. Case Studies Highlighting Spanish Child Protection Measures One notable aspect of the Spanish child protection legislation is its emphasis on the development and preservation of the biological family. This emphasis is in line with the United Nations' Committee on the Rights of the Child, which supports interventions that aim to preserve and reunify families. The legislation recognizes that children have a basic right to development within their family context and prioritizes facilitating reunification with the biological family in cases of separation. The Spanish autonomous communities have been tasked with implementing this law and are allowed to utilize placement alternatives that align with their own priorities. However, research suggests that the participation of children in the Spanish Protection System is still a pending subject. Recent research has highlighted the limited involvement of children in decisions regarding family separation, with many children not being consulted or adequately informed before such events occur. This lack of child participation presents a significant challenge in realizing the principles outlined in the Spanish legislation. The 1987 Foster Care and Adoption Law introduced family foster care as a child protection measure for the first time in Spain. This law not only prioritizes family reunification but also includes the possibility of permanent foster care measures. Further research is needed to evaluate the impact of these legal arrangements on child protection outcomes in Spain. One area of concern regarding the implementation of Spanish child protection legislation is the lack of consistent practice in promoting a person-centered approach, child and family participation, and community involvement. Efforts to enact these principles face challenges in practice, with discrepancies between professional opinions and the perspectives of children regarding their primary interests. The Spanish legislation regarding the protection of children showcases the country's commitment to upholding the rights and well-being of its young population. Future Projections: Potential Reforms in Spanish Child Protection Legislation Future projections for potential reforms in Spanish child protection legislation include further incorporation of a person-centered approach, increased emphasis on child and family participation, and greater community involvement. These reforms aim to ensure that the voices and perspectives of children are considered in decision-making processes, especially when it comes to family separation. Additionally, efforts should be made to improve the consultation and information-sharing processes with children, ensuring that they are adequately informed and have a say in matters that affect their lives. In order to address the challenges identified, it is crucial that professionals in the child protection system receive training and support in implementing person-centered approaches and promoting meaningful child and family participation. Additionally, the development of guidelines and protocols for professionals to follow when considering the child's perspective and best interests would contribute to consistent practice across different regions of Spain. Future research in the field of Spanish child protection legislation should also focus on evaluating the effectiveness of alternative placement options, such as permanent foster care measures. Furthermore, in order to fully transfer the principles of child protection into various public and social spaces, there needs to be a shift in cultural attitudes and a recognition of the importance of safeguarding measures outside of the traditional family unit. In conclusion, the Spanish legislation regarding children's protection demonstrates a commitment to upholding the rights and well-being of children. However, there are still challenges to be addressed in fully realizing the participation of children in the Child Protection System. One of the challenges is ensuring that the child's point of view is taken into account, even if it contradicts professional opinions about their best interests. Conclusion: The Strengths and Weaknesses of Spanish Child Protection Laws In conclusion, the Spanish legislation regarding children protection showcases the country's commitment to upholding the rights and well-being of its young population. However, there are both strengths and weaknesses in the implementation of these laws. One of the strengths lies in the legislation itself, which is based closely on the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child and principles such as person-centered approaches and child and family participation. Another strength is the recognition of the importance of community involvement in child protection. However, the gap between the reforms on paper and the actual quality of life for children, young people, and families remains significant. Implementation has proven to be a challenge, particularly in regards to child participation and the consultation process during family separation. There is a need for further improvements in the incorporation of child-centered approaches and enhanced consultation processes to ensure that children's voices are heard and their rights are protected. In order to address these challenges and bridge the gap between legislation and practice, it is crucial for professionals in the child protection system to receive adequate training and support. Additionally, there is a need for reliable and comprehensive data to inform child protection responses and for agencies to have the capacity to enforce and uphold these responses. Overall, the Spanish legislation for child protection demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children. However, there is still work to be done in terms of implementation and ensuring the active participation of children in decision-making processes. In our fast-paced and ever-changing society, the importance of precise weather predictions cannot be emphasized enough. In today's rapidly changing world, the significance of accurate perspective and best interests would contribute to consistent practice across different regions of Spain. • Are super prime realtors the new rock stars?

I Are super prime realtors the new rock stars? Barnaby Crompton considers the increasing role super prime real estate agents are playing in Dubai’s highly sought after luxury property market Remember when chefs became the new rock stars? Well, I think the time of the super prime realtors is upon us. Are famous brokers the new rockstars? I certainly enjoyed my moment in the sun last year when I sold the most expensive villa ever recorded in Emirates Hills. The notoriety was amazing. We’re regularly seeing record-breaking property sales, but does it take a special kind of person to broker these eye-watering deals? I think it does. To understand what a super prime broker is, first we must understand what super prime property is. Super prime property is basically the high end of luxury real estate - the sort of dream properties only the top 0.001% can consider owning. These properties are located in the most exclusive areas, feature the most luxurious amenities and are priced at the very top of the market. Super prime properties are often owned by ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) who demand the very best in terms of quality, comfort, and convenience. While the old adage of “location, location, location” remains the most accurate depiction of price, it is not always the divining rule when it comes to super prime - where there must also be fastidious attention to detail. The craftsmanship must be exemplary. If it’s not, it will fall short. The UAE's property market has witnessed a significant (record-breaking) surge in recent years, with the world’s elite flocking to the region to buy homes as permanent residences or just to escape the torrid winters in their home countries. And with the rise in demand for luxury properties, there has been a corresponding increase in the number of real estate agents and brokers labelling themselves as super prime brokers. Super prime super heroes These super prime brokers are a new breed of real estate agents, who specialise in selling high-end, luxury properties priced at tens of millions of dollars. They cater to the (often very specific) needs of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, who are looking for the very best in terms of luxury living and high-end amenities. You’ve got to be a special kind of person, with highly specialised knowledge and a packed contacts book to hunt out the perfect property for these most discerning buyers. And I know from my own experience in this market, a good super prime relator not only knows the local market deeply, but they will leave no stone unturned when it comes to curating a list of homes they think best fulfils their principal’s needs. While the opening comment about brokers as ‘rock stars’ may have been a little tongue-in-cheek, we’ve certainly witnessed an explosion into the public’s psyche of life as a super prime broker spearheaded by the likes of the Altman brothers, the Oppenheim brothers (Selling Sunset) and Mauricio Umansky (The Agency). These brokers-turned-TV-stars have given people an overly dramatised peak behind the curtain at what goes on in the business and how “Hollywood” wants to depict life as a super prime broker. It’s not totally divorced from the truth - but it certainly isn’t 100% factually accurate. One factor contributing to the rise of super prime brokers in the UAE is social media. It’s now increasingly easy to have your content viewed thousands and thousands of times as the content thirsty world drinks in their favourite dinner time topic of the housing market. Agents are becoming accustomed to shooting videos using professional videographer and photographers. It’s now easier than ever to generate global market data and post it on platforms to be absorbed by the scrolling masses. And with increasing numbers of followers comes that ‘rock star’ moniker again. Another factor is the use of property videos to showcase high-end properties. With the increasing popularity of virtual tours, super prime brokers are now using videos to showcase their properties to clients, giving them a more immersive experience of what it would be like to live in a particular property. This has become a vital tool in attracting potential buyers, especially among those based overseas and cannot physically visit the properties. The UAE's global fame as a hub for luxury living has also played a significant role in the rise of super prime brokers. Dubai, of course, is synonymous with luxury living, with world-renowned hotels, high-end restaurants and luxurious shopping malls – all factors which make it an aspirational place to live, and increasingly attractive among HNWIs and UHNWIs. We have seen an increase in true luxury property by global standards, which has also contributed to the rise of super prime brokers. The ultra rich expect ultra luxury – and someone who understands their needs, desires and requirements. Dubai’s small, but growing, pool of uber-luxury properties feature ultra-luxurious amenities such as private beaches, helicopter pads, and even cryo chambers and designed by the most iconic architects like the inimitable Sir Norman Foster and even the king of modern architecture Paul McClean. There is growing international demand for super prime brokers with the knowledge, expertise and network to cater to the needs of these ultra wealthy and ultra discrete individuals. The rise of super prime brokers in the UAE is testament to the growing demand for high-end luxury properties in the region. With their specialised knowledge and expertise, these brokers play a vital role in connecting buyers with the properties that best suit their needs and preferences. As the UAE continues to attract more ultra-high-net-worth individuals, it is likely that the demand for super prime brokers will only continue to grow. However, there are also concerns about the rise of super prime brokers. Some have raised concerns that these brokers cater only to the ultra-rich, and that their services are out of reach for the majority of buyers. Others express concerns that the rise of super prime brokers may lead to an increase in property prices, making it even more challenging for ordinary people to afford housing in the UAE. Despite these concerns, it’s clear that the rise of super prime brokers in the UAE reflects the growing demand for luxury living in the region. Whether this trend will continue in the future remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: for now, super prime brokers are playing an increasingly important role in the UAE's luxury property market. Barnaby "Barney" Crompton has been involved in the British and Dubai real estate industry for 24 years. He moved to Dubai in 2008. Most of his time in Dubai has seen the property expert specialise in Emirates Hills, one of Dubai’s most exclusive areas. In 2012 Barnaby launched his own company, Crompton Partners Estate Agents which still operates in Abu Dhabi. In 2019 he joined forces with his current partners and created Crompton Saltini Real Estate as a response to the need to deliver professional and ethical estate agency services to the local market. In 2022, Barney sold the most expensive property ever sold in Emirates Hills, the XLV Residence, a 50,000 sq. ft. property spanning three floors. • Novo Nordisk expands manufacturing with over 42 billion Danish kroner

I © Novo Nordisk invests more than 42 billion Danish kroner in expansion of manufacturing facilities in Kalundborg, Denmark Novo Nordisk today announced plans to invest more than 42 billion Danish kroner starting in 20231 to expand existing manufacturing facilities in Kalundborg, Denmark, for the current and future product portfolio within serious chronic diseases. The investment comes as Novo Nordisk marks the 100th anniversary of its founding in Denmark, where more than 23,000 employees still work today. Most of these employees work at production sites. The new API facility will be designed as a multi-product facility, with flexibility to accommodate current and future processes. The investment, which includes GLP-1 products, will increase Novo Nordisk’s ability to meet future market demands. "The significant investment announced today confirms the importance of utilising our existing sites, including in Denmark, as cornerstones for not only the growth we see but also to expand as fast as possible by utilising all the infrastructure, knowledge and competences we already have,” said Henrik Wulff, executive vice president, Product Supply, Quality & IT, Novo Nordisk. “Our continued investment in global capacity demonstrates the belief we have in our current and future product portfolio and its relevance for people living with serious chronic diseases.” The new API facility will have a footprint of 170,000 m2. It will be designed as a multi-product facility with flexibility to accommodate future processes and displaying state-of-the-art technology and working environment. As a future-proof and cost-effective facility, the construction will focus on delivering the highest quality to patients globally in an efficient and environmentally sustainable way2. The construction projects will be finalised gradually from the end of 2025 through 2029. During the construction phase, up to 3,000 external employees will be employed. Over the past two years, Novo Nordisk has announced 40 billion Danish kroner in production investments in Denmark. Novo Nordisk has also added approximately 1,100 employees in production related to these investments. • The opening night of the 2023 Dubai Racing Carnival with Emirates

I © A Touch Of Gold on Opening Night The opening night of the new Dubai Racing Carnival was one to remember for the Touch Gold Racing syndicate, who waltzed away with the two most valuable races. Mike Kaye’s ownership group has renewed its investment in Dubai racing and one of their new purchases, Western Symphony, quickly paid back a chunk of his fee when taking the night’s feature, the Emirates Airline Handicap, over 1600metres. Ridden by Tadhg O’Shea for Bhupat Seemar, the five-year-old registered a fourth career success in smooth fashion, taking it up at the top of the straight and beating the eye-catching Seyouff by a length and a half. “He’s a really strong traveller, which you want for the dirt,” said O’Shea. “He puts a lot into his races so we might space them out a bit more this season.” 35 minutes later, the same connections graced the winner’s enclosure again when Leading Spirit sprinted to his fifth career success. Facing Group 3 winners Al Tariq and Gladiator King, this was a competitive renewal of the 1200metre Emirates Airline Handicap, but Leading Spirit won with a bit in hand, taking over the lead from pacesetter Fast-Uno off the turn and holding on by a diminishing neck. “There were a couple on my outside that I didn’t want to follow so I probably went forward a bit sooner than ideal,” said 11-time Champion Jockey O’Shea. “These are lucky colours tonight, anyway!” Milestone Al Mheiri Enjoys Night to Remember The first two-year-old race of Meydan’s season, the Emirates Holidays Maiden, over 1200metres, produced an exciting winner in El Nasseeb, who gave trainer Musabbeh Al Mheiri his 500th UAE winner. “I am very happy to have this number on this night,” said Al Mheiri, “as tomorrow it’s my birthday! “I want to say thanks to my team, as we are working as if we are one hand.” The landmark couldn’t have come in much more impressive fashion as El Nasseeb, a Euro 6,173 Goffs Dubai Breeze-up purchase, powered home by seven and a quarter lengths on his debut. Gasssid, well-fancied beforehand for in-form trainer Michael Costa, was second. “If you asked me before I would have said it’s a question mark,” said jockey Bernardo Pinheiro. “He’s very ready at the gates but then doesn’t show much in the mornings. “In the middle of the race I was feeling good, but I didn’t expect that [finishing effort]. He’s surprised me!” Al Mheiri made it 501 in race five, when Qareeb scored on debut for the trainer. Previously handled by Doug Watson, the five-year-old poked his nose in front of Vasilakos just before the line and won a shade cosily under jockey Al Moatasem Al Balushi. Connor Beasley’s good start to the season continued as the British jockey collected win seven when Al Jaddaf broke his maiden in the Emirates SkyCargo Handicap, over 1600metres. Ahmad Bin Hamash’s four-year-old was second to Perfect Balance at Sharjah two weeks ago but reversed that form here, hanging on for a length and a half success over Aldhaja, with Perfect Balance third. “Things are going well and it’s great to be back with Ahmad Bin Harmash,” said Beasley, who is riding in the UAE for the first time since 2021. “This horse ran well at Sharjah and I got to know him a bit better. If anything I got to the front a bit too soon today but he kept going nicely.” Australian jockey Jimmy Orman is on a two-week working holiday in Dubai and he rode his sixth winner when Meshri made a successful debut in the three-year-old Arabian Adventures Maiden over 1600metres. “It was a good win today over a testing mile and Michael [Costa, trainer] had him spot on,” he said. “He travelled really well and gave me a winning feeling. It’s a short stint here, but hopefully I’ll be back one day.” Costa’s new stable jockey is Irish Group 1-winner rider Ben Coen and he collected his first UAE winner when Sadeedd took the closing 1400metre Emirates.com Handicap, giving the trainer a double. Placed on his last three runs, Sadeedd deserved a change of luck and was brave in seeing off a three-horse challenge, with Triple Venture, Shake Hand and Fight Zone all threatening inside the final 100metres. In the end it was Sadeedd who prevailed by a neck. “It’s nice to get one on the board on the first day here,” said Coen. “Michael thought he had strengthened up and any questions I asked, he [Sadeedd] answered them for me.” The opening Emirates SkyCargo Handicap, for Purebred Arabians over 1400metres, went to AF Yatwy, who took his career statistics to three from four for trainer Saif Almarar. Ridden by Oscar Chavez, he held off AF Layth by a length and a half. The next meeting at Meydan Racecourse takes place on Friday, November 24th when the official feature is the AED500,000 Listed Dubai Creek Mile. • The Fondation Haute Horlogerie Forum in Geneva

I FHH© The FHH Forum 2023, which was held yesterday in Geneva, on the theme "Horology Futurology", proved to be a crossroads of avant-garde ideas and constructive debate, guided by exchanges and in-depth discussions with renowned experts. The Fondation Haute Horlogerie successfully hosted the 11th edition of the FHH Forum at the Maison de la Paix yesterday in Geneva. Under the evocative theme "Horology Futurology", the event saw the participation of around 200 people, orchestrated by its master of ceremony, journalist and moderator Olivia Kinghorst. The day echoed the mission of the FHH Forum: to ensure the sustainability and adaptability of the watch industry by fostering dialogue and debate. Delphine Bachmann - State Councilor of the Canton of Geneva, Sami Kanaan - Member of the Executive Council of the City of Geneva, and Pascal Ravessoud - Vice-President of the FHH, laid the groundwork for this day of reflection. Their speeches underlined the FHH's desire to rise to the occasion in the face of current and future challenges. Then, Ian Goldin, Professor at the University of Oxford and world expert in futurology, and Virginie Raisson, President of the IPCC Pays-de-la-Loire, captivated the audience with their keynotes on “The World of Tomorrow: Macro Trends and Perspectives”. They highlighted the significant impact of exogenous factors on the watch sector, opening the way to enriching discussions. Continuing with these reflections, Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, President, International for the New York Times, brilliantly moderated a Q&A session dedicated to managing the tensions between individual freedoms and the common good, drawing on historical and current data to illuminate the debates. The transition was then made towards the theme of "Humans and Nature", where Bruno David, former director of the French National Museum of Natural History, made the case for an educational revolution and strengthening our link with biodiversity. In a continuation of thought, Inès Léonarduzzi brought another dimension on "How to Manage Short and Long Time for Business Efficiency?", encouraging long-term vision in entrepreneurial strategies. Focus shifted to the watch industry and the revelations of the Deloitte study presented by Karine Szegedi, Managing Partner. The results notably highlighted key trends such as the growing importance of India as an emerging horological market, or the greater price awareness and curiosity of new generations. Diana Derval, chief researcher at DervalResearch; Austen Chu, founder and CEO of Wristcheck; Scott Wempe, Limited Partner and Co-Head of Business Development at Wempe; and Guido Terreni, CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier, then joined Ms. Szegedi around a fascinating panel, entitled “The behaviors of the watch customer: expectations and aspirations”. In closing, the panel on "A Prospective Evolution of Watchmaking Customer Engagement" was moderated by Stéphane JG Girod, with speakers Anne-Sophie Scharff, head of strategic planning at Digital Luxury Group; Matthias Fuchs, assistant professor of marketing at EHL; and Clara de Pirey, global luxury director at Nelly Rodi, focusing on new trends and the emerging concept of “Retailternainment”. The 2023 FHH Forum has proven that complex periods have highlighted the watch industry's ability to adapt and innovate. Stay tuned for what future editions have in store! • Galería Canalejas Madrid celebrates its Anniversary in Dubai

I Galería Canalejas Madrid © Galería Canalejas Madrid; The New International Icon of Luxury and Gastronomy Celebrates its Anniversary with a Trifecta of Milestones Galería Canalejas celebrates its anniversary with new millstones including the opening of its new Galería Canalejas Café, the opening of the first Jil Sander boutique in Spain, and the expansion of its Beauty Gallery, now featuring over 20 new premium cosmetics brands. Galería Canalejas, the new international icon of luxury and gastronomy in the heart of Madrid, is playing a fundamental role in the city's cultural and gastronomic landscape, as well as in the development of a new and central Golden Mile. Since its inauguration, the most prestigious international fashion and beauty brands have found their quintessential reference point in this unique environment. Now, in an exciting new chapter, Galería Canalejas is preparing to open Galería Canalejas Café, a place that pays homage to the vibrant essence of Madrid. A gastronomic milestone that comes in parallel with the recent opening of the Jil Sander boutique, which joins the distinguished list of renowned brands with its first store in Spain, solidifying a year of unprecedented achievements for this iconic luxury gallery. Located in the central atrium, Galería Canalejas Café is a sumptuous and cozy gastronomic oasis inspired by the architecture of the city's most traditional squares and streets kiosks, with a structure reminiscent of a bygone Madrid, such as the old Quiosco de la Música on the Paseo del Pintor Rosales, and with natural elements that reminds of the city's most emblematic gardens and parks. An evocative space that allows its visitors to step back in time and enjoy the most authentic and literary Madrid, reminiscent of the iconic Madrid cafes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, such as Café Gijón, Café Comercial, or the now-defunct Café Suizo, meeting places for artists and the Madrid society in the past. The cafe offers a unique gastronomic experience based on Spanish cuisine and Madrid’s genuine flavors, blending traditional tastes with innovative creations by the renowned pastry chef, Alejandro Montes. From breakfast to early dinner, and even afternoon tea, any time is the right time to savor the delights that this new place has to offer. Notable bites that will leave no one indifferent include the Pedro Ximénez carbonara partridge macaron or the Anchovy and Unagi Duo. In the field of sweets treats, highlights include the Canalejas Chocolate Bonbon, a 70% Guanaja chocolate shell with crunchy Spanish almond praline, or the La Violeta Petit Four, inspired by the historic neighboring store of Galería Canalejas, a delight of creamy white chocolate with freeze-dried yogurt and crystallized violet petals, and, of course, a reinterpretation of the classic churros and porras for a truly Madrilenian breakfast could not be missed. Moreover, a special mention must be made of its spectacular signature cocktails, featuring exceptional creations inspired by fashion and haute couture, such as the Blazer cocktail with pink gin, white vermouth, violet, and floral bitter, an essential drink inspired by a fashion must-have. And of course, a tribute to Madrid is a must with the Castizo cocktail, made with brandy, horchata, and roasted chestnut, few sensations are as authentically Madrid as the smell of roasted chestnuts on the city's streets. In addition to Galería Canalejas Café's offers, an extensive coffee menu supplied by Supracafé, an ecological and fair-trade coffee produced entirely by the Association of Women Coffee Growers of Cauca in Colombia, which has become a benchmark of quality and sustainability. "The opening of Galería Canalejas Café is a tribute to the essence of Madrid and a symbol of the excellence that Galería Canalejas represents," says Karine Titli, director of Galería Canalejas. "This culinary area enriches the overall experience we offer and highlights our strong dedication and commitment to attention to detail." With its elegant atmosphere and the exclusive gastronomic offer that reflects the culinary richness of the region, this new destination becomes a meeting point for those seeking to experience luxury in its most delicious form. A blend of fashion and gastronomy in an incomparable setting, under the magnificent original 1940’s glass ceiling that crowns the central atrium, demonstrating that Galería Canalejas continues raising the standards of luxury in the Spanish capital. Certainly, the perfect finishing for Galería Canaleja’s first anniversary, joining the recent opening of the first Jil Sander boutique in Spain and the expansion of Beauty Gallery by ISOLÉE with more than twenty new premium cosmetics brands and signature perfumes, including Chanel, Guerlain, Natura Bissé, Miriam Quevedo, Frederic Malle, Francis Kurkdjian, and La Prairie, among others. In addition to all of this, the celebration of an iconic Christmas, that will confirm Galería Canalejas as the epicenter of luxury, gastronomy, and culture in the heart of Madrid.
